My life has been a rollercoaster ride. It has been filled with extreme happiness and great loss. But, whose life has not? I have lived in several places, had different types of employment, and have lost and found many dreams. I am still looking for magic! How passionate are you about writing?
Passionate, well that is a hard word to define. Writing keeps me balanced. It helps me to face the world I see and stay postitive despite all the hate and violence. It keeps me sane really. It lets me believe in the inate goodness of my fellow man. I always hope that my words will bring insight or comfort to those who read them. So am I passionate about writing, yes.How long have you been writing and what inspired you to become a writer?
I have written poetry all my life. My sister says at the ripe age of 3 I was already adding to Mother Goose rhymes because I thought she forgot some. So the only thing I needed to be inspired to do was share the poems. It was always my daughter's dream that I would publish and in her memory (with the pushing of several FB friends) I published some. How do you choose which stories to tell?
Pictures, song lyrics or even just a landscape will get the "voices in my head" talking. My poems just truly write themselves. Topics of conversation with someone or even requests to write about a certain idea can all influence what I put on paper.Do you ever get writer’s block?
I went for a long period after my daughter passed without writing. I found that life got really hard if I tried to ignore the thoughts floating in my mind. So, except for my conscious efforts to not write, no I don't get writer's block. There are too many stimuli for a poet to be frozen long. How do you get reviews? Which was the best review you ever got?
I am always amazed that anyone reviews my books. It is not easy to get anyone to take the time to do one. They don't realize how important it is to authors. I do get people saying they like my poems though. My best was: ttps://www.amazon.com/review/RBAMX3YXYI2WE/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm "A heartfelt journey of poems to be enjoyed by all! ByTracey Quintinon March 18, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase Let me preface my review by stating I do not read poetry books but I am exploring new genres to read this year and thought I would give this a try. I can say unequivocally that you can truly feel Cindy J. Smith's heart poured into the writing of each of the poems. There were some I could so relate to, some I couldn't relate to at all, some lighthearted and some heavyhearted. I know there are at least some poems that everyone can relate to in reading this! A couple of the poems I felt I was intruding on Cindy's life, they felt so deeply personal. Yet in thinking back after I finished reading, I can see that Cindy is sharing her journey in these poems and it's not an intrusion, it's a reflection of experiences that may help others. If you enjoy poetry books, I think you should give this a read!"What does the word “story” signifies for you?
Story for me means "journey". My "stories" are short jaunts into life. Each poem is a trip to or from somewhere.Do you think an author should be bound by Genre?
Authors should be bound by their hearts. I write poetry because that is where my heart is. I have a few short stories but I really don't enjoy writing them often. If you feel you are "bound" to write in a certain genre, your spontaneity will suffer. Your book won't flow and the readers will see that. Write whatever your heart says, let it lead you.Are you currently working on anything?
I am currently compiling a 4th poetry book, Words on the Wind. My children's book Caesar And The Bluebells is being reillustrated and I am also writing a follow-up story to it.Do you have a special time or place for writing?
No, as a poet, I write whenever. I have found that while I am driving at night, the words flow more often. It is peaceful then. I use a voice recorder when this happens. How do you promote your work? How will QuotesRain help you in your book promotion and sales, would you like to refer this platform to your author friends?
I promote by sharing my poems and links for my books. I beg friends to share them also. I tried book signings and they were a bust. I am not very good at figuring out how everything works. I am on QuotesRain but, to be honest, I am lost. I have suggested you to several of my friends. I appreciate your tweeting for me and the opportunity to do this interview.Would you like to share something with your readers and fans?
