    • Hey Daniel, can I ask you something a little different? When you write, do you feel like you’re sharing a story, or releasing something from yourself? I’ve always believed the why behind our writing says more than the what.

      • I was the president and CEO of a medium sized industrial compliance inspection agency for 31 years before I started writing fiction. During that time, I wrote many thousandes of project specifications, teaching plans, , references to national standards, etc. Those technical documents were boring and not very creative. Once I retired and was finally free from those tedious tasks, I try to write good stories without psychoanylizing the "why" I write to concentrating on "what" I write. If there is an agenda to my writings, then I am no longer writing for fun. There's enough craziness in this old world without me adding to the mix. If you constantly question the "why" of your work, you won't be working for long.

        • I spent years writing technical documents, structured, rigid, not very creative. So when I turned to fiction, it was freeing. I try not to overthink why I write. I just focus on the story itself. If it stops being fun, then what’s the point?

My first book was Gilbert’s Gobstopper, published back in 1987. Since then, I’ve written across a range of genres, children’s books, adult novels, poetry, and even scripts for radio and stage.
I’m probably best known for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which was fortunate enough to connect with readers around the world and received a few awards along the way.
Over the years, I’ve published more than 30 books. What drives me is a fascination with human nature, telling stories that feel honest, a little messy, and deeply human. I always appreciate when someone takes an interest in the work.

          How about you?
