Then, when the heroine, Annabel Ridley, tries to make up her mind about whether to accept the duke's unexpected proposal her internal monologue are the thoughts I processed when my own husband proposed. In real life I made the decision in seconds, but I allowed Annabel a few hours to reach her decision because she had just met Philip Markham that morning.
