The Queen and the Cure (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 7,416 ratings

There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart.
Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He'd never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.
But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.
Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past. Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.

Amy Harmon at her finest! A MUST READ for the soul.

Amy Harmon at her finest! A MUST READ for the soul.
I love books. I love them so hard.Whenever I start reading a new book by a favorite author. I get a little nervous. The expectations are high...really high. It's rare for me to love every single book written by an author but when it comes to Amy Harmon...she's the exception. This book is pure magic. Pure bliss.“Some things cannot be healed. They must simply be endured." Dudes, that's life. That's perfection. It's classic Amy Harmon at her finest. My imagination has never been this colorful or intrigued by a book before and I've been an avid reader for the past 37 years."Then she was lifted straight up off the ground, dangling over him from the talons of a birdman, her eyes still strangely blank, her arms reaching for him as she was propelled upward."Holy crap people...holy crap. Can you picture it? And I love how throughout the book...from the beginning...the message of love and lifting up your fellow man is so on point. The characters encourage one another to be strong in every way possible...and the fact that the leaders and royalty are so encouraging to their followers and people "beneath" them...so rad!Kindness has no hierarchy...this book is inspiring.Imagine if the world we lived in showed such radness...what a different world it would be ❤️I think this is the first love story I've ever read where the readers can literally feel the emotional pain and rage that comes with being in love. You fall in love with all the great characters from beginning to end. You just can't help but swoon from page to page. Many people who tend to read romance and character driven books, have a hard time reading "fantasy" because the writing is typically for a certain group of people...it's been like that for years so people are programmed to think it's not for them because they assume it's all the same...but Amy has managed to write it in a way where people like me who don't read fantasy can enjoy it because she writes her words in a way where everyone can understand the storyline...it's entirely a new genre of fantasy for me, like The Bird and the Sword was. There's an Amy Harmon element to it just like in every one of your books no matter how different they are. Haha. Does that make any sense?!?Same goes with historical books...which she did with From Sand and Ash.She manages to make reality dreamy and humanize fantasy. That's pure art right there. It's a God given gift that's what it is.Love is hard, but when you can feel the soul of another in your bones...you can't help to be immersed in their spirit. You will laugh with the soldiers who are loyal to their Kjell. You will swoon with Kjell and Sasha. You will go through the motions and sensations of everything that comes with falling in love. You will see beautiful things come to life like you never imagined. This is a must read. This is a necessary read for the soul.Nothing like an Amy Harmon Experience. You'll find yourself having a lot of AH moments ❤️Get to it!

Resoundingly adventurous and joyously romantic, Amy Harmon whisks us off on another enchanted journey in The Queen and the Cure, with Kjell the healer and Sasha the slave. Sasha knows nothing of her past, she only knows her loyalty and devotion now belong to her healer, a gifted soldier who refuses to trust his ability to love. In this majestic world of fanciful gifts and fantastical beats, where the threat of death and war and predatorial birdmen lurk, where the people are gifted with abilities to heal and see and tell and change, where the struggle to fight and survive must take precedence, the kind but brooding healer silently rebels against his inherent need to care for a slave without a past, without a home, without a path. An adventure of the heart takes root, and their reluctant attraction follows them as they slay Volgar, as they trek the barren landscape and evade adversaries. Amidst the danger, the storms, the battles lurking on each page, an internal war of emotions is building, culminating into an emotionally tumultuous journey full of heartache and longing, uncertainty and devastation.

I'm not a fantasy reader but I am a romance reader, so if I'm being completely honest, I went into this story far more interested in the romantic aspect than the fantastical one. But true to form, Amy Harmon turned my world on its head, dragging me into THIS world and BLOWING AWAY all of my expectations. This story was far more romantically intoxicating than anything I imagined going in. The love story between Kjell and Sasha was... MORE. It felt far deeper, more addictive, more satisfying than anything I anticipated. I also found myself just as taken aback by the fantasy, the magic, the possibility of the impossible, the anomalies on each page as I was with the romance in this book. I was blown away by how much I loved the fantasy of it all, how immediately I grew  completely immersed in the world of Jeru and in the hearts of Kjell and Sasha. I'm not a fantasy reader (I swear!) but I don't think I can fairly say that anymore because it'd be a lie. I loved this book, this world, these words, these gifts, these characters, this magical reading experience you really only get in this genre.

The writing in this book is breathtakingly stunning. I wanted to highlight every single word. There truly aren't adequate words to describe all the gifts Amy Harmon possesses. She can morph and change from genre to genre, keeping the reader on the precipice, never knowing what we'll to expect. She carefully, masterfully selects just the right words to set forth into the universe, creating majestic worlds, extraordinary characters, and epic circumstances. She sets fire from nothing, putting pen to page, illuminating the darkest recesses of a reader's mind with her brilliant storytelling. She breaks hearts and wounds souls through her character's strife, then heals and mends and soothes with where she takes us right along with them. She spins tales and sends them up like stars for us to pluck down and relive again and again. She sees the path for her characters and her readers, knowing full well where she'll take us as we journey right along with Kjell and Sasha, and she masterfully molds the way, granting us an unpredictably powerful experience through her unparalleled prose. I'll follow Amy Harmon blindly, aimlessly into whatever unknown adventure she decides to take next, for her gifts endear me to her in the same way Sasha is to the healer who fixed her broken body, and Kjell is to the slave girl who unlocked his heart. Gratitude, appreciation, joy, devotion, pleasure, love... I feel all these things for this book, for this gift Amy Harmon has bestowed. I'm a slave to her gifts, and she is a balm to my soul with her magical story.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised that the author of my favorite book of all time, The Law of Moses, just delivered yet another of the most phenomenal stories I've ever read. The world building, the character development, the brilliantly detailed imagery, the intricately complex storyline and the unparalleled provocation of emotions demanded by this story is simply awe inspiring. I love to read books that open my eyes and my heart and this book did that. On a basic level, I was drawn into a literary genre I don't normally read and I feel my horizons have been broadened because of this story. On a larger plain, this story sends such profound messages about humanity, about how we treat our talents, how we treat our own people and the risks we take by extending our hands to strangers. It's also a powerful testament to the truest truth, that true love is never proud or boastful but patient and kind. It's an altering experience, The Queen and the Cure, and its a story that must be read, must be felt. The sheer romanticism of this story is enough to leave you breathless. The brilliance of Harmon's storytelling is enough to leave you speechless. The course of events will leave you on the edge of your seat. The death defying battles and the unknown adversaries will leave you white knuckled, gripping the pages, both eager and terrified for what catastrophe awaits. The Queen and the Cure is wrought with thrilling adventure and blissful romance and splendid enchantment. It's a story of finding yourself while you find your purpose while you find your destiny while you fall in love. This story gripped me from the inside out. I never wanted it to end.

“The Gifts we are given are not given for our benefit but for the benefit of mankind.”

Was Amy speaking of herself with this quote? Seriously, the woman’s gift of writing is a benefit for mankind. Every time I read one of her books I am in complete awe of her writing abilities. She crafts such in depth stories and some of the most romantic scenes I have ever read. To be honest, I’m not the biggest fantasy fan, but that does not stop me from snatching up Amy’s books as soon as they are released. Whether I prefer the genre or not, I know I will be getting a beautiful story with some of the most incredible writing out there. The Bird and the Sword was one of my favorite reads of 2016.

The Queen and the Cure picks up two years later where The Bird and the Sword left off, with Kjell’s story. I was immediately enveloped in the start of the story and loved getting to know Kjell better throughout. He reminds me of my husband, so what’s not to like? He seems grumpy and angry at the world, but has the softest heart and deepest feelings of anyone (don’t tell my husband I shared his darkest secret). When Kjell and Sasha met I was swooning all over the place. Their interactions combined with Sasha’s persistence and innocent demeanor drew me in to their unique and budding romance. I couldn’t get enough of the two of them together. The angst the characters experience was so well done, the mystery of both characters’ pasts, as well as the suspense of what was yet to come was truly masterful. Not to mention my favorite aspect of a series: catching up with previously loved characters. My heart was soaring with the addition of a few of Lark’s famous words given in new poems, as this was my favorite piece of the last story. One of the best of parts of The Queen and the Cure, in my opinion, was the subtle addition of Biblical elements. It’s something that many will enjoy, but something that is never overbearing or obvious if it is not your thing.

I was impressed with the introduction of new lands surrounding Jeru, which will allow Amy to continue the chronicles of The Bird and the Sword in the future (yay!). I am a fan of Amy’s fantasy lands for life and will be pre-ordering all of her words as they are given. I’m truly enchanted by Jeru.

"I fell in love with you in pieces. Layer by layer, day by day, inch by inch."

I don't really know where to start with this review. I kind of forgot how The Bird and the Sword made me feel while I was reading it. This book brought back all the feelings. The Queen and the Cure was a very magical and emotional roller coaster. It was so beautiful and unique, I was hooked from start til finish. I am blown away with Amy's creative mind and amazing story-telling. Nothing was rushed and the author really took her time to tell the story in the best way possible. There is nothing I would change about this book, it was perfection. It was like I was under a spell.

If you read The Bird and the Sword then you've met the main character of this book Kjell as well. He was a very important character in that book and I was happy he got his own book. I was intrigued and fascinated with him and I couldn't wait to learn more about him. There were many secrets uncovered in this book. The main female character Sasha was perfect and a mystery. Kjell healed her when he found her lying in a lifeless heap. I loved how Kjell and Sasha met, and the loyalty she showed him was just incredible. The chemistry between them was there from the start but the author really took her time with their relationship. The growth both of them went through as individuals and as a couple was very beautiful to read. There was so much going on but it all fit perfectly together. Every little thing that was revealed played an important role to the overall story. I didn't want their story to end. It was romantic, emotional, and very sad at times. It was mythical and action-packed as well. It was the perfect Fantasy Romance book. I seriously don't want this series to end! AMY, I NEED MORE!!
