Dracula: Hearts of Stone (Vampires, humor, magic and romance) Other books in this series Dracula Hearts of Fire, Hearts of Glory, Hearts of Ice, Hearts of Magic, HEART of a child wizard: Book 1 of 6 Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

It sounds like "Dracula: Hearts of Stone" by A.J. Gallant is an absolute ride — a fresh, hilarious, and unexpectedly emotional take on the classic vampire tale. You've got Dracula at his lowest, dealing with depression, existential dread, and family drama, while also somehow being laugh-out-loud funny and still a total badass. Throw in a soul-swapping cat, evil vampires on the loose, and a vampire sheriff squad, and you’ve got a unique mix of humor, magic, and adventure.

The quotes from readers really highlight how this version of Dracula hits different — he's ancient but relatable, cynical but lovable, powerful but plagued with everyday problems like love and friendship. And apparently, he’s got a sharp, sarcastic wit that keeps you laughing even as the plot throws you curveballs.

Also, the whole Dracula’s friend gets trapped in his cat’s body subplot? That’s such a wild and brilliant twist. Totally sets the tone for a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers a solid story.

Have you read it, or are you thinking of picking it up? Because this sounds like the kind of book that could easily become a favorite for vampire fans who want something totally different from the usual dark-and-broody fare.

From the Publisher

I bite you very much

Dracula is suicidal, no longer sees any reason for continuing with his drab existence.

Sorceress

Evil vampires are slowly taking over the world. Is it possible that the author Piers Anthony will help him snap out of his suicidal funk?

magic

Dracula has created Red Sheriffs to deal with the carnage, but there are too many of the bad biters.

Magic, fangs, and humor.

A tale of humor, romance, and adventure. Come along for the ride ...

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dracula June 22, 2012 By Mary Sanders Format:Kindle Edition I was given this book to review and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love Piers Anthony and his Xanth series, so to see him in this book was a thrill. It's nice to see Dracula in a "nice" light for a change and I can well imagine why he would be feeling so suicidal given that he has lived centuries. What could be new for him? Well, something is and I won't give it away. I can't wait to get the next in the series.

From the Author

I started out to write a trilogy where Dracula is basically a good guy. It has been a lot of fun and I'm going to miss the characters until I get back to them. In the future I may decide to spin off some of the characters into their own novels. Jenny is certainly one consideration and so are the Chinese sheriffs Wei and Bao.
The Siamese cat Moon Diamond continues to make me smile and I hope it does the same for you.
The 3rd book should be released sometime in November 2012, or even a bit sooner. Thanks for the support; it is greatly appreciated.

There is so many different points of view in this book that it would be extremely hard to write a synopsis without giving a lot away. But basically there are a bunch of evil vampires running around causing trouble. Everything pretty much branches off of that fact.

I was really amused by this book. I wasn't expecting much, I had a a bad run of books, but got more then I bargained for. The beginning dragged a little, but once it picked up it keep with a nice pace.

Dracula was by far my favorite, I wish the story focused more on him. Though I did love Moon Diamond was well. . .you could have cut everyone else out of the book and I would have kept reading just because of them.

It got a little confusing because there was so many different characters, at times I had to stop reading and think back to who was who. . .I know I got two of the major bad guys mixed up a lot, they where both fat, ugly guys that like pretty much doing the same things.

I liked how the book kept to a lot of the vampire legends, but changed some as well. I loved that the vampires weren't all lovey dovey with humans. I'm very tired of reading books like that.

There were a few errors in the book, but nothing so bad that it bothered me much. It just tends to stick out to me when dialogue starts with an " but doesn't end with one. . .I tend to get confused as to if the person stopped talking or not.

For the most part I really like this book, it was refreshing to me to finally find something worth reading to the end.

Would I recommend this book? Yeah, it was pretty good.

The story has many characters, and I must confess that I found it a little difficult to keep track of who was who. Dracula is very entertaining and his relationship with Piers Anthony (yes that Piers Anthony) was definitely a highlight of the story which centers around Dracula wanting to kill himself, a young girl with mysterious powers and a bunch of Vampire thugs that want to kill Dracula. Oh yes and there's a Vampire dog!
I enjoyed this book and I'm sure I will enjoy the next one as well. I want to find out what happens to the characters and what, if any, progress they make. I would encourage the author to find a new editor though as I found a few errors in this book, and the Countess doesn't cope well with typos. It'll be interesting to see where the Author goes with this series.

Liked this book. Stumbled upon it while it was free, but would have paid for it as well. Quite the money's worth; one of those rare occasions when you feel you did not go wrong with an indie.

Not bad, but there are too many mangled sentences. Also, the author often uses words that don’t mean what the author thinks.
