About the author

Sue Lilley loves getting lost in a page-turning story and can never put a good book down. She’s published several well-received novels and short stories and is always engrossed in creating the next. Her tales of hope, dreams, temptations and impossible dilemmas are sexy and real. Her shameless love of eavesdropping is done in the name of research and inspiration. When she isn’t escaping somewhere else in her imagination, she lives in the stunning north east of England.

Written in a clear and engaging tone the book is a page turner from the first lines.
I love that the story gets straight to the plot, no dull set ups to wade through. I was hooked by the first few pages.
The central characters are intelligent and interesting and you find yourself siding with each character as the story follows their point of view.

Hope is generally considered such a positive thing, and yet it’s what’s found in absolutely pure form at the heart of every pathological liar, every sordid schemer. Lilley shows us this brilliantly, allowing us to appreciate its quasi-artistry amid its often abject failure in terms of the characters’ own intentions.
When I review a book, I speak of my personal experience of reading the book but also try to be objective, and that’s why in this case I’m giving four stars to a book that on a personal level, I simply didn’t enjoy. For me, it was a few hundred pages of what could easily have been my neighbours’ lives (not a commentary on my specific neighbours, but I’m addressing the notion of universal interpersonal dramas here), and nothing to truly tell me why this is of more interest to me than anyone else’s romantic and/or sexual gossip. But that’s just me and my tastes, more than anything wrong with the book per se, so I can hardly knock an author (or her work) for that.
For those who like interpersonal dramas of the kind where you enjoy a fly-on-the-wall vicarious experience of someone else’s romantic problems, then this is, as I say, a very well-written book that you can certainly reply upon to give you just that.

Sue Lilley has created an intriguing, yet true-to-life scenario. It was easy to relate to Grace and place myself in her shoes, although I’ve never experienced her situation. Lilley’s writing is emotional and vivid; I quickly found myself pondering the same things—should she tell or just allow things to continue as they always have been? It would definitely be a difficult choice! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fast-paced, believable drama with likable characters. Another excellent job from this author.
