A dead god.

A dying world.

A girl never meant to be sentient.

Siriaa is dying. A poison is spreading throughout the planet and none know how to neutralize it. Finder, working in King Tamblin's castle kitchen most of her life, has never spoken. A child of questionable parentage, Finder is an orphan assigned to perform duties nobody else wants.

While others plan intrigue, murder and invasion to escape the poison's effects, Finder watches all in mute acceptance. Will she be the key to Siriaa's salvation, or will it die about her, without knowing why?

Where do I begin? This book was so fantastically interesting! It is rare that I have the patience to stay curious as information comes to me bit by bit but Suttle has created a fascinating world with so much to discover.

Finder is a victim but not in a maudlin way. Her lack of anger and bitterness allow her to be a sympathetic character but not entirely realistic.

I loved the different cultures explored in the book. Seeing how they all intersect is interesting enough before you add in the court intrigue and origin stories.

There is so much to gush about, but this was a fast paced, really cool story with so many unanswered questions. I can't wait to start the next.

After I read the preview, I had to find out what was going to happen to Finder. Connie does a wonderful job of setting up what it is like in each place Finder travels to, so that you can envision what these characters are like and the incredible contrasts between the places. One frustration is that in the latter part of the book there were so many characters to keep straight and lots of jumping back and forth from Finder to what is going on elsewhere, that it was a bit hard to figure out where you were. Towards the end you also meet a few new characters that are obviously going to bring about some twists, but there is little to help you figure out anything about them, which I expect will be further developed in the next book, but as they have no connections, it's rather confusing trying to figure out where they suddenly came into the story aside from adding a twist to develop the plot.

I loved the new creatures she introduced. With a market saturated with vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters, witches, fairies and other magical but now common beings, it was refreshing to meet some characters that you didn't already have expectations about or know what they could do. Even as we learned more about Finder, there are still many unanswered questions and mysteries about who she is and what she will be able to do as she continues to grow and develop.

I was very disappointed that the end just jumped up with a semi-resolution that doesn't solve anything and leaves you hanging with so many unanswered questions. This is apparently the first book of a set, but it's still disappointing that authors are now just cutting off at a crucial point so that you must buy their next book find out what happens. Authors that have done this well, like J.K. Rowling, can leave the overall mystery and resolution lingering while giving a satisfying conclusion to this step in the story.

Overall, loved the story, would buy it again and am waiting eagerly to find out what happens next.

I really liked this book. It ended too soon, don't get me wrong, it was at a good conclusion. I just wanted to keep reading.I will be buying the next books.
The Amazon preamble isn't good. The book is Dark and suspenseful but Hopeful. The pace is very good. The characters are well developed and complex. A good book for exploring personal politics.

    You will enjoy this.

The book was interesting enough until the build up to the ending climax through the latter half of the story and the ending itself which was appallingly written. To give a metaphor it's like watching a movie which is built up slowly and well and then suddenly a whole bunch of characters to whom you have no background and are not given any information about get thrown in. Worse is you do not even have the visuals of a movie to try and make sense from things and are not given any details either. Furthermore these characters are having two sentence conversations with each other that only the author has any idea about. So you have about ten different bunches of characters in ten different places and each of these are given a paragraph or two at most before jumping to the next bunch of characters and place; and it doesn't help that the new character in the new paragraph excerpt begins speaking without even letting you know which character you are with.
The ending itself, to continue the metaphor, is like watching a movie where whole chunks of the movie don't show because part of the data is corrupted. So right in the middle of whatever is taking place gets cut out and you're suddenly in the middle of a different scene, which again you only get a snippet of before the movie jumps five minutes ahead and you land somewhere in the middle of another scene, which get cut off abruptly and that's the end. Maybe this might work for a movie but it most definitely does not work in writing where you need to supply the details to build a picture.
There was no cliff hanger and there was no conclusion either.
It read like the author was just in a mad rush to get the book done because there were better things to do.
I would have liked to give this two and a half stars but as this option is not available I decided I would be nice and give three stars for the potential of the ideas.

I have no words to describe this book. I could not put it down. Connie Suttle you are my hero and I would name my firstborn after you if I was pregnant. (Which, unfortunately I'm not.)

This book is the light in the blinding darkness. The rock in a sea of badly written fiction. I LOVED every second of this book.

Grammar and structure are flawless. Character development is dynamic and full of life. Written in such beautiful (and correct) english I almost wept for joy.

Thank you for bringing such a new and original story into the world. I feel like if I ever read the word "vampire" again I'll gouge out my eyeballs. I have no words. You are a goddess.

A goddess of impeccable grammar. You're my hero Connie Suttle.

5 trillion gold stars!! I can't wait for the next one (when's the release date for it exactly?)

This is the first book I have read by Connie and I will definitely be reading more. I was drawn into this story right from the start after discarding several books recently purchased which turned out to leave me bored after the first few chapters. Wow! I thought when I began this one. It is an intriguing plot and Finder/Quin the main female protagonist is a continuing mystery which kept me reading on right through the book. I do have to admit I felt more than a little frustrated when I reached the end only to discover there were still many puzzles unanswered including the mystery of Quin. The book is fairly short and ends extremely abruptly. As is the case so often these days I have had to buy the second book in the series to continue this most original and absorbing story. I simply need to know more. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy with a twist!
Reviewed in Australia on October 26, 2015
I have been reading science fiction and fantasy for over 50 years now and I have to say that this must be the most unusual book that I have read in that genre.
It starts off in a typical fantasy scene: young orphan girl given to kitchen staff in a palace to raise. By the age of 4 (!) She is cleaning pots and dishes .in order to do this she has to stand on a stool. She is mute until she is 9 but, by then, she has come to realise that she has heard too much and her life would be forfeit should it become known that she can speak. The room that she was given to sleep in was a dusty old store room full of crates and books. As she picked up a book she realised that she could read it. From these books she learnt as much as she could about the world she lived in. Other gifts began to manifest themselves, the first being the ability to find lost items - which is how she got her name: Finder.
From then on she comes to the attention of a prince and various other important people. There are intrigues and evil all around which leads her, after much action, to being kidnapped and taken to Aviaa, a glass island that was occupied by a winged people. Here she came into contact with technology and from here on fantasy and science fiction become entwined.
Quite frankly you need to pay close attention to all that happens from the beginning to even start to understand what's going on!
This is a complex story but well worth reading.
I would recommend it to all ages and all SF&F fans.
I have just started book two and it's getting even more complex & interesting!
