4.1 out of 5 stars 2,470 ratings

When evil and beauty collide

Voted the world’s most beautiful woman, twenty-three-year-old Mira Roskova is admired, envied and desired. With a world-famous footballer for a boyfriend, plus top modelling and endorsement deals, Mira’s meteoric rise to fame comes with what her millions of Facebook and Instagram followers imagine to be a perfect life.

But celebrity extracts its pound of flesh. Threatened and harassed online, stalked by besotted fans, beaten up by a man who claims to love her, Mira is assailed on all sides. Home isn’t safe, friends can’t be trusted, freedoms melt away. Where does the image end and the real person begin?

As the threats multiply, the biggest danger is overlooked. In Broadmoor, Britain’s most notorious psychiatric hospital, one man has long been obsessed with this most perfect beauty. His crimes are so awful that a judge ruled they must never been revealed to the public. But his plans to possess Mira are well advanced, and he has the charm and the cunning to make them work.

The most chilling thriller of the year

Praise for Mirror Mirror

‘Sparkles with tension,’ Kate Mitchell, author of The House Fell On Her Head

Praise for Bite

“Fast, smart and terrifyingly plausible. Bite is a thoroughly assured thriller with an unusual and alarming setting – it sinks its hooks into the reader from the first chapter and does not let go.” Jon Henley, Guardian journalist

"A fast paced thrill ride, a book that I couldn't put down and that took me on a journey of fear.” Linda Mather, author of Gut Instinct

“The depth of the author’s research is staggering. His story, and the accompanying sub-plots, are entirely convincing and held my attention from beginning to end. A thriller in every sense of the word.” John Leach, Amazon.co.uk

Nick's earlier book, Bite was recommended to me by a Goodreads friend and I loved every page so I was very pleased when Nick sent me a message saying Mirror Mirror was being released.

This book is gripping from the very first page. A major character is Virgil who has recently left the army after tours in Afganistan and is very traumatised by events there. He is asked to protect Mira from an abusive boyfriend and puts his heart and soul into the task despite his concerns about her past and the secrets she keeps.

There are many very unique and interesting characters in this book and all develop effectively throughout the book as the reader is taken down many dead ends and around twists and turns with suspense all the way through.

The ending is a real curve ball but then comes the Epilogue!!!

This is a long interesting book that keeps the reader gripped all the way through and will appeal to readers of many genres but mainly readers of thrillers and suspense.

I am hoping to read more from this author.

As always I enjoyed Nick's work. A complex plot, but not a confusing one, good strong pace that keeps going to the very end. A diverse and interesting storyline with threads of sub plot weaving back, but not detracting from the main theme.

I would have liked more detailed police involvement. High security breakouts, children with guns, helicopter chases? I think in today's world of terrorist threat there would have been considerably more attention from the security forces. Research and detail please Nick.

I liked the book overall, but I am not sure about the ending. I feel that some of the characters did not act in a manner which would correspond with the traits which they had demonstrated earlier in the novel. I enjoyed the yarn, as an easy tale to follow, but some of the characters for me were a bit inconsistent.

This is emphatically NOT a book to pick up when you're due to turn in a large report for work. Trust me!. I normally find myself dozing over my book at the end of the day, but Mirror Mirror had the opposite effect. Squeezing in a few pages before setting off for work, claiming my partner's iPad when he was supposed to be doing his accounts (guess I need a Kindle!) reading late into the night and forcing myself to put it down and actually get some sleep. I was spending my days working out when I could get back to the book! Nick Louth always tells a good story, but the edgy dance between a glossy cover model and more than one mad, bad and dangerous to know Broadmoor inhabitant, was completely gripping. There was some really comic stuff in there too, I loved the jaundiced but utterly on-the-money PR hack, Jonesy Tolling, who effs and blinds his way through the working day. The book was finely balanced and laced with questions throughout, until the final denouement. Then everything became clear, but not for long... Now I've finished the book, 'obvious' clues which I completely overlooked are revealing themselves. I may have finished reading Mirror Mirror, when will I stop thinking about it?!

I’ve been an acquaintance of Nick for many years now in the Lincolnshire chess playing circles, so have a keen interest in his literary efforts. Despite that, I approach each of his books impartially and never come away disappointed. The guy is a very talented author with a very twisted imagination.

His novels tend to deal with pertinent issues of the time, and with Mirror Mirror a central theme is the vacuous idolatry, media saturation and obsessive behaviour towards the over-hyped icons of today. As usual the character development is deep and engaging, and in Lucy I encountered one of the most terrifying fictional characters I’ve even known. The progression of the story and finale neatly tied up all the loose ends in a satisfying way, and also provided the shocking twist I’ve come to expect.

All in all, a highly recommended read which I enjoyed immensely. Now I’m hopefully awaiting the day when one of his books makes it to cinematic form, as I believe they all would lend themselves well to the big screen.

So good to read a book which keeps you engrossed from start to finish.
No padding it out with superfluous characters, needless anecdotes & details.
The author respects the readers ability to follow the storyline without undue prompting & repetition. So refreshing to have a kick in the tail on the last pages - what a kick it is.
Many novels seem to end abruptly, leaving the reader disappointed, as if the author is desperate for the bathroom & cannot be bothered to finish it completely after needs are satisfied! Not Nick Louth.
The book was a joy to read from start to finish. I am looking forward to further reads by this talented writer

Fast moving, easy read, and difficult to put down after the first page. I'll be reading more from this author. I read this as a free book, and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't go into long descriptions to over develop characters, or scenes - it just get's on with the story. That's how I like it.

Just completed reading "Spirits in the Trees" by Morgan Hannah McDonald, and I must preface this review with the fact that I do not normally lean toward ghost stories, but OMG, this book was fantastic! It was indeed a paranormal, but it is also a thriller, a romance, and a comedy a times. It deals with the spirits at unrest after the body dies, and the turmoil & terror that could erupt with evil spirits. What I do know is that this book envelopes you quickly, and consumes you in such a way that it is difficult to put down. Even if you're not a typically into the ghost/paranormal genre, I encourage you to pick up this book, you'll be surprised how quickly the romantic thriller takes over.
