I Won a Basket of Porn: A Satire Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

An award-winning, unconventionally told story inspired by a real life premonition that came true--that I would win a vibrator. The rest of the story is fiction, told through fictional newspaper articles and the comments that follow them. It's a satirical look at what can happen when everybody gets a say, even when they don't understand the whole story. The story is mostly non-erotic, but there is a sexy little scene at the end, just for the fun of it.

What a great book. I walked in on this one not knowing what to expect. The forwars helped shed light on the adventure I was about to take, but it didn't tell me the amount of imagination I was about to read.
The different posts were hilarious and heart breaking at the same time. Many times I was shaking my head and smiling.
People are so quick to judge and condemn. Even though Patient didn't describe her characters I was able to picture them all. Especially the old biddy church lady (who probably needs a porn basket to give hee something to do so she'll mind her own business) to the pastor who ostracized the poor teacher. The hypocrisy was spot on.
    Congratulations Patient.

Rarely do I get to say such a thing about erotica, but this was FREAKING HILARIOUS!!! Patient Lee has a true talent for bringing out the ridiculous, particularly when poking fun at small-town politics, associated busybodies, and Internet comment trolls. Honestly, I laughed my butt off. And hey, there were sexy moments too, but mostly this is a chance to giggle and shake your head at the absurdity of reality. It also addresses a controversial question: where is the line between private life, and public? And are certain people - those in positions of trust and authority - held to a higher standard?

The writing is very good, and unlike some other authors, it seemed well edited.

The story is funny, even though it seemed like real life in the USA. Well worth a read.

I liked the first book I read by this author. It was well-written and fun. This one however wasn't fun. It was well-written, but too long, had too much story but not enough sex or erotica. Yes the author strives for realism, and if that's your thing then this is the book for you. But I like my stories to get to the point. Wham, bam thank you ma'am. This wasn't that.

But in saying that. The story is inventive. It's told through the main characters perspective and news clippings, which creates a clear-cut world chock full of interesting people and interesting situations. But nowhere near enough sex or masturbation for it to call itself erotica. Erotica-lite maybe, but not erotica.

The author has skill, so much so that I'd love to see what she can do with standard fiction. I guarantee she can create a mind-blowing world and characters. She's that skilled. I also wouldn't mind seeing what she can do with non-realism erotica. Something filthy. Something that'll make you need church after you're finished.

I love this book, don't let the title and cover pic scare you away. The main character, Patricia is a teacher. One day she enters a raffle and wins a basket of vibrators etc. A photo and announcement is put in the local paper and the story is predominantly an array of people's comments on that article. Having been a teacher myself I could relate to the debate over your public persona and how much you have to keep private. A quirky, different and highly amusing read.

Patient Lee is one talented writer. "I Won a Basket of Porn: A Satire" is nothing less than brilliant. What satire, just superb! This is beyond Kafka, more like Robert Heinlein. I recommend it.

What a treat this tale is. It’s good when you read a short story that gives you a chance to imagine a whole lot more. The way this is told to us in message board format works very well. It creates intensity and immediacy – pulls you in like no amount of description, character development and dialogue could go anywhere near achieving in this amount of reading time. I would give 5 stars for that alone, but on top of it we get a terrific little story with a real life lead character in an oh-so-real dilemma. The way out of the dilemma (the conclusion) is just brilliant. I won’t spoil it…. Read and enjoy!
