After All Is Said And Done: A Novel of Infidelity, Healing, & Forgiveness Kindle Edition
Nobody wakes up one morning and decides that this is the day they are going to cheat on their spouse, but when the opportunity presents itself, it ultimately becomes a choice—and that choice, whether good or bad, can have irrevocable consequences.
Ethan and Jessica Harrington are doctors who work alongside fellow doctors Gavin and Sarah Williams. After Jessica has an affair with Gavin, their lives are thrown into turmoil as they deal with the aftermath and subsequent fallout. For the better part of a year the four of them have been working to piece their marriages back together. Sarah and Gavin are still reeling from a devastating miscarriage, while Jessica and Ethan are hesitantly looking forward to the birth of their first child.
Sarah’s hopes are immediately shattered, however, when she learns just how far Gavin’s infidelity has gone. Suddenly thrown into an unwanted independence she fights to find her way.
Jessica struggles to repair her marriage to Ethan even as they become parents. But when Ethan—a borderline alcoholic—learns a dark secret, his world steadily begins to crumble, and his drinking—fueled by this discovery—slowly engulfs him, leaving him without the ability to control his temper.
With his marriage now in pieces and his sanity questionable, Ethan struggles to come to terms with his alcoholism and face a past that he has spent a lifetime trying to forget.
After All Is Said And Done is a powerful and gripping novel of infidelity, healing, & forgiveness.

Review
A realistic look at alcoholism ~ Ruth A. Hill
The long trip from infidelity to reconciliation is one paved with truces, promises and hope. When all those things turn into a huge deception no one is going to forgive or forget and the chance of moving on is almost impossible. ~ Mary Gramlich, The Reading Reviewer
From the Author
Book Excerpts:
Jessica's breath quivered as she drew it in. The man who had once walked a mile in the rain to find her lost cell phone, had surprised her with a dozen pink roses on her last birthday, and had whisked her away to a sandy beach in Mexico where he'd made love to her underneath the moonlight...now lay shackled to a hospital bed.~ Jessica Harrington - After All Is Said And Done
There were times it seemed to Ethan as if Jessica felt that ignoring the problem was the solution. He didn't know if she was just blind to his feelings, or if she truly thought that if they carried on about their duties-everything would work itself out. ~ Ethan Harrington -- After All Is Said And Done

About the author

I am an author of women's fiction & mystery novels.
My stories are filled with angst, intimacy, despair, and hope. My women are not weak, and yet, my men are not always strong; you will also find that my characters aren't perfect - they are far from it, actually, because even heroes have a chink or two in their armor. It's what makes them human, and I find that fascinating.
I was born and raised in Kentucky and currently reside in a small town near Louisville with my husband, two sons (one who loves me unconditionally, and one who loves me only when were not in public) and a menagerie of animals that includes three persnickety cats. Besides being a full-time writer, mom, and professional hamster wrangler, I am also a firm believer that Krazy Glue fixes everything.
I have written six novels to date: "After All Is Said And Done", "The Monster of Silver Creek", "Seasons of Darkness", "Tragedy at Silver Creek" , "Winter's Malice", and the recently released "The House on the Cliff".

- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2011It's rare that all I want to do is read a book. This story drew me in because it was so powerful at its core. I am not even sure how I stumbled upon it. I think I was on a page for one book that said at the bottom "people who bought this book also purchased..." so I clicked on it and read the description and decided to go for it.
Though this story was much longer than most e-books I normally read, I simply couldn't stop until I finished. If I hadn't had to sleep and work, I would have read it straight through. But I still read it every chance I got. When all was said and done, I loved the story. It has some language and a few pretty steamy scenes in it, but it didn't take away from the value of the novel for me. What I loved about the story was how deep it went and how honest it was. I've never seen a more compelling portrayal of alcoholism and the damage it can do to adults.
For the most part I loved all of the characters. There were times when I didn't like some of them at all, but that's like real life. Sometimes we don't like the people we love. And sometimes we just need to know when to walk away and let someone learn the hard way that they need help.
The ending was fanstastic and I think it worked well for the story. There are people that are good for us and the relationship is healing. There are some people that are like poison to our souls. Ethan's insight about the healing power of forgiveness toward the end was enough to move a reader to tears. I was so glad when he found peace and joy in life again.
Some picky little things that drove me nuts were the excessive use of exclamation marks. Any seasoned writer knows that they are not needed most of the time and should be rarely used. If it hadn't been for all of those marks in the story I would not have believed this was the author's first novel. It was very well-written and other that, had few flaws.
This story engaged not only my head, but my heart. I was afraid - more like terrified - at times as well as extremely sad about situations that occurred. There were no easy answers, but the author had the characters acting in ways that made sense and fit their situations given their lives and what they knew.
More than that, I felt like I knew these people kind of like I knew characters in a soap opera I used to watch many years ago. I often held my breath as they did crazy things that fit the drama of the day and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. And though the author did not have a pure point of view (in other words there was some head-hopping) she actually did this very well. It's not easy to have multiple viewpoints in a scene and do it well.
I am sad that this story ended, but was excited that a prequel is coming out in 2012. I'm definitely getting it as I want to know how it all began and I know for sure it will be told well. Hopefully it won't have a thousand question marks in the story, but even if it does, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2011This is always a sign of a good book for me, when a few days after I've finished a novel, I'm still thinking about it. This is definitely the case with After All Is Said And Done . As a writer, Ms Buchanan does a very stealthy job of bringing the reader along for this amazing ride in the world of Ethan and his wife Jessica and Gavin and his wife Sarah. It was an interesting story with unexpected twists and turns that will keep readers engaged to see how it all turns out. Ms. Buchanan does a great job with a very complex story with a number of main characters as well as secondary ones. Readers may not always understand the significance of a particular scene until later in the story, but all scenes are relevant to the story Buchanan carefully lays out. I enjoyed "After All Is Said And Done" very much.
My reasoning for four stars had to do with the back and forth change of Point Of View which was a little confusing at first. It may be the e-book version that I had that took away the spacing between scene changes. In the end, I found it quite effective. I really had to pay attention to ensure whose POV was being expressed.
This is a great read for anyone interested in the complexity of relationships be it in a marriage or a friendship that many readers will enjoy.

I found this book to be very heart felt and loved how its about overcoming adversity and finding away to survive abuse . Sometimes all we need is someone to weather the storm with you and be our anchor. That's what Sarah did for Ethan, she never gave up on him.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2011I don't usually read this genre, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This novel reminds me of a Danielle Steel book, and I think if it had the benefit of slick editing and the backing of a Random House-type publisher, it would do as well. The story was much deeper than I anticipated and the characters were amazingly fleshed-out. All in all, this was an intricate story well crafted by a first-time author. I recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2023This is third book I've read by Ms. Buchanan. Truly woven into the fabric of the lives many doctors and medical staff. I felt for each characters situations as I've lived that hospital life. Although I was happily married, the main characters many things happening such as cheating doctors, cheating nurses, pregnant and lying by omission regarding child's biological father, the father who raised his son since birth only to find out that his wife had cheated on him again and he wasn't the biological dad but he was his son's dad blood or not blood related. The writer definitely pulled the issue of alcoholism into this book. I have seen what alcoholism does to one's body alone, and to one's psyche. I get the leather restraining that was, I get the various health since I'm a registered nurse. No one need be a nurse to benefit from this entire book. Five shiny gold stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2015I've gotten somewhat into reading books about infidelity and this one was so different from others I've read. From forgiving the adulterous party, to ending the marriage, I never thought I'd read this story where the spouse uses a gun. With the heightened emotions and the fall into alcoholism, you get the real sense of all that is lost in the end of a marriage in which both parties are to blame. Even though there is a hint of forgiveness, it can't be followed through after everything that was said and done. A string of sorries by the guilty party after committing adultery again, leaves a consequence that involves both families and causes subsequent breakups. A very truthful look at what infidelity does and it's not sugar-coated. Great read. I couldn't put it down.

The story was good but the ending a bit too pat.
