Tangled in Time (The MacCarthy Sisters Book 1) Kindle Edition
A time-travel romance for fans of Diana Gabaldon and Hazel Hunter.
To set him free from an ancient curse, she must travel to a time of myth and legend…
Regan MacCarthy’s ability to see ghosts is a gift inherited from her Irish ancestors, but it’s one she’d dearly like to give back. In an attempt to return her powers to their source, she travels to Ireland to harness the ancient magic that still permeates the mystical site of Newgrange. Instead, something far more unexpected awaits her: a strapping, gorgeous stranger who insists he’s a centuries-old Celtic warrior.
Fáelán was one of Fionn MacCumhaill’s elite soldiers before being cursed by a resentful fae princess. The only way to free himself is to fall so deeply in love that he’d sacrifice his life. Not an easy matter when he’s invisible to most. Yet Regan sees him—not just the proud, handsome warrior on the surface, but the complex man beneath. Only when it’s too late does Fáelán realize that drawing this beautiful mortal into his world has endangered them both, and may destroy the happiness he’s waited an eternity to claim…

Regan is a psychic who has the ability to interact with ghosts. Thoroughly jaded with her ability, she goes to Ireland to visit ancient sites of power to try and block her gift. It is at one such site that she meets Fáelán and despite his protests to the contrary she believes he is simply another ghost that needs to ‘seek the light.’ She eventually comes to believe his story and then events unfold as she and Fáelán attempt to undo his curse.
This was an enjoyable light read with quite a few humorous moments. The author has a lovely writing style and the relationship between Regan and her ‘boasty ghosty’ Fáelán was lovely to watch unfold. The world building was very well done, as was the characterisation of both the primary and secondary characters.
A few reviews have noted that Regan’s disbelief of Fáelán’s curse may have gone on too long. Perhaps, but I think you have to take in account Regan’s pure weariness of her abilities, and the insistence of her mother to continue to help everyone who needs it, even at the expense of Regan’s own peace of mind. By the time she meets Fáelán she is well and truly over anything ghost related, and her disbelief is a defence/coping mechanism. Once she can no longer ignore the ‘anomalies’ surrounding Fáelán she jumps in with both feet to help him.
This was the first book I have read by this author and I certainly will keep an eye out for her other/future works. This was a perfect read to just relax with, and I suggest that if you read it, go with the flow and just enjoy it.

Regan MacCarthy has inherited “the gift” to see ghost from her Irish ancestors. She has devoted her life to helping the deceased moved on and has become tired of the problems that comes along with the ability. In an attempt to return her powers, she travels to Ireland attempting to find a way to tap into ancient magic around Ireland. She trespasses onto the mystical site of Newgrange where she has visited and can feel the strong pull of magic. It is at Newgrange where she meets Faelan.
Faelan, is an 1800-year-old Fiann that has been cursed to live in the void by a rejected vengeful Fae princess. He can touch the real world only during the Solstices and Equinox’s, when the veil between worlds has thinned. He discovered that he can ‘teleport’ himself beyond his island void to seek the one person that has the ability to break his curse.
Regan doesn’t believe Faelan when she first meets him at Newgrange, because she thinks he is a ghost and refuses to accept the reality he is in. Here the twist and turns begins as he leads her around Ireland as her tour guide. I wish we had more of their time together and the development of their relationship before continuing into the next phase of the book.
Once Faelan has fallen in love with Regan the Fae Princess decides to take Faelan back to his void island and tells him that she will not release him. Regan is heartbroken and has an unexpected visit from another Fae that offers to help her bring Faelen back.
This is where the book becomes engaging and I found it difficult to put down. Traveling to the Fae realm to seek help, Regan is transported back in time to prevent Faelan from being cursed at all. As the story progresses, we have interesting twist and turns, lots of intrigue and interactions with the fae.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tangled in Time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light-hearted and romantic journey.
