Life After Perfect (Boot Creek) Kindle Edition
Katherine Barclift had it all: the perfect job, the perfect car, and what she thought was the perfect marriage. But when her entire world collapses in one stomach-churning instant, she hits the road and keeps driving until that so-called “perfect life” is just a dot in her rearview mirror.
A chance encounter leads her to make a pit stop in Boot Creek, a drowsy little North Carolina town where she can call herself Katy, soak up the peace and quiet…and drink in the bluer-than-blue eyes of Derek Hansen, a local doctor still wrestling with his own painful past. Both Katy and Derek are wary about giving romance another shot, but they can’t deny the intense attraction between them. And if being in Boot Creek has taught them anything, it’s to take life as it comes and never pass up a chance at true love…no matter how wounded your heart may be.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2015Life After Perfect by Nancy Naigle is a heartwarming, emotional and tearful read. Katherine (Katy) Barclift’s world turns upside down when her happily married life is shattered by her unfaithful husband. She decides to leave her home without confronting her cheating husband and drives off to a small town, Boot Creek, in search of a new beginning. This is where she meets Derek, a doctor, who is experiencing his own pain and grief of losing his wife. Both hit it off instantly. Can these two people leave behind the deep emotional wounds of their past and re-build their trust and love by accepting each other for a better life? Read this wonderful book to find out how two people accidentally meet and despite of having a dreadful past, both attempt to put their lives back together. I love how Nancy Naigle has kept the characters as well as their struggle so real and authentic. You almost feel like you’ve met them or know you’re friend/family member who has gone through a similar situation. This is a great read for romance readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2016Nancy Naigle in "Life After Perfect" fabricated the community of Boot Creek, N.C. as an almost idyllic getaway where neighbors know each other and everybody gets along. Sure, they have problems. But they persevere. And they know enough to ask for help when they really need it. Enter Katy Barclift. She's left her husband after discovering he was a true schmuck who bedded women he wasn't married to. And he was controlling. And, guess what? His philandering was her fault. If she'd only not worked so much. Katy made more money than her idiot of a husband. She met him in high school and has never been interested in anybody else. Bad choice, obviously. Then she heads to mom's house. Her mom tells her to get over it and go back to the cheater. As if. Naigle's book is dark. Her protagonist has been wronged. Her emotions have been shredded. It's a story many can relate to. The pain can be intense. Katy's dealing with all this basket of conflicting emotions when she stumbles on a small-town doctor who recently lost his own wife a couple years earlier. He had been an oncologist when his wife got cancer and wasted away. The misfortune made him question his career choice. He lost himself in the small town of Boot Creek where he returned to help out his aging father's practice. The opposite sex held no allure until by chance at a gas station he met Katy. She is likewise drawn to this random guy and actually follows through on his recommendation to check out Boot Creek's famous Blackberry Festival. She goes. She doesn't have expectations. And she finds herself liking the place. She wants to shuck her past. But that's not easy. This isn't really a romance but a story that addresses pain and how to cope. Sometimes good things happen. But with sorrow comes healing. And sometimes it takes awhile. This is a very honest, engaging novel. I couldn't stop reading. There were no slow spots either.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2016I first discovered Nancy Naigle on Book Bub with BBQ and Bad News. I loved the book so much. She has a way of writing that draws you quickly into the characters and the town they live in. I hated to come to the end of the book. Looking through my Kindle, I found I had another book of hers, Life After Perfect. I started it with the thought that it wouldn't be a good as the first book I read, but found I loved it just as much, if not more. What I loved about both books was the small towns in each. Everyone knowing each other and caring about their well being. Does such small towns exist? I would like to believe they do. Each book had me rooting for the happily ever after for each main character. If you're looking for a book with lots of sex, you won't find it here. It doesn't need it. The only thing I had hoped the books had, but didn't was an epilogue. The story 3 or 6 months later to wrap everything up. Don't get me wrong, the books finished nicely, I would just have liked a peak into their "happily ever after"! I see that BBQ and Bad News was #6 in a series so now I'm going to go back and start with #1!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019A quick read full of emotion and the introduction to a new community of vivid characters. The story shows two character perspectives and includes two towns, multiple background stories and lots of laughters and sad but sweet moments. The attorney is a spit fire and this couple is sweet. The town of boot creek sounds cute and like a great place to enjoy a festival and some peaceful relaxation. For me the MVP was Naomi, the owner of the bed & breakfast /inn. She was sweet and sassy and so kind to everyone. I loved her role in this story and community. This would be a good series and community to revisit and see how all the characters are doing.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2019It was a very good contemporary romance! It was my first book by this author and I have all of this series and another series downloaded and ready to read! The small town feel and the people there make this a must read. I am reading the 2nd in the series now!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2018This is a love story as well as a story about friendship. Katy takes a leave of absence from her job when she finds out her husband is unfaithful. She leaves after discovering this and ends up in a small town which is in the middle of a blackberry festival. She decides to stay at a charming B & B for a few days. She meets a volunteer fire fighter / town doctor. This story is very believable and heartwarming.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2017Kindle Customer. very good book, it isvery true to life. This is and has occured in the world we areyears and this story reminds me of us. We both
had been married before and were victims of unfaithful spouses. We met on a blind date and felt like we had known each other for years.
This was very similar to our stories. I do believe God
has a plan for all of us if we trust him.
This book was so true to life with its indiscretions,
Sickness and death, divorce. True love never fails
And no matter what you are committed and can
get through anything when you have the spouse
That you can trust and love at your side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life After Perfect
