There is nothing like spending the last 8 months in misery, being freed from it and then finding I have not one but two glorious Amy Sumida/Godhunter books.
The first is Book 21 – Pride Before a Fall. Vervain and her Ganza, Kirill are waiting for their daughter to be born from a magical uterus chamber in which she was placed because the Morrigan and her troops nearly managed to kill a pregnant Vervain in book 21.
As usual, Sumida has a sly, sarcastic writing style and while there are sexy fun times aplenty, she remembers the single rule about romance novels, particularly RH novels, there has to be a story to tell. There must be a fleshed out (even if it is fey flesh, God Flesh and a world completely under complete control of Vervain) world.
As usual, as one of the Mothers of RH, Sumida never disappoints. She lays down just enough clues to what will happen in the next book, that you can't wait for your next Sumida fix!
My first review as the Book Nerd was for the God Hunter, in which I declared it literary crack. Amy Sumida's God Hunter is so much more that that. At the same time it is a page turning novel, it is also a God littered soap opera, many romance novels rolled into one and a feminist roar. Yes a feminist roar! Vervain is able to choose what she wants, be it 6 men, or whether to go to war or not, based on her beliefs.
Sumida has a gift for description. Whether is Kirill's Romanov eyes or the baby smell of Leysha.
As always, there are not enough positive adjectives except to say at one moment this is a book that has you in love with character, the next it is that book in which a true reader is shouting she just has one more chapter only to find herself done with the whole thing as the sun comes up, the next it is an action adventure.
This book is amazing and thoroughly fulfilling.
