Hunter (Brawlers Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 853 ratings

Welcome to Brawlers Bar…

If there was a way to destroy his life, Hunter Black could do it. He was a catastrophe waiting to happen. Survival was his only priority and having to leave his old life behind that meant a job of the legal variety. He’d found one as a bartender at Brawlers Bar and a safe place in a huge house with the rest of the bar crew who quickly became the family he’d never had. The one thing Hunter didn’t need was his old life tracking him down.

Deputy Wren Gramble hated his job and his weekend assignment of staking out a bar in the middle of nowhere waiting for drunks. Although he’d heard the homophobic and racist jokes going around about the crew and customers, he kept his head down and stuck to his job and nothing else. He despised being driven back into the closet, but he’d reached the end of the line and what he’d do if he earned another transfer he didn’t know.

Linus Trenton was considered the normal one in his family and according to the weird ones that meant he should be punished daily. He never came out one way or another, if he found someone attractive he was attracted. His life was complicated enough having a crush on the sweet and awkward Hunter but now he had to throw Wren into the mix. Linus didn’t have time for dating or romance, most of the time he didn’t even think about having a sex life, although, Wren and Hunter were ruining his calm.

Hunter was in lust with the handsome deputy the minute the man pulled him over, but a man like that wouldn’t give him the time of day. His friend, Linus, was another matter altogether. Hunter wanted both. His bosses made it work with their man, why couldn’t he? Could Hunter prove he wasn’t as much of a screw up as he appeared or would he have to call in backup to claim his men?

NOTE: THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF HUNTER HAD FORMATTING ISSUES. THE NEW VERSION IS CORRECTED AND THE UNEXPLAINED NUMBERING OF PARAGRAPHS HAS BEEN REMOVED. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISTAKE. THANK YOU.

These series with the Twirled Ink and Brawler crews are so good. Sometimes, the books have some typos but this one was great. The stories are so great that the typos break my heart because I worry someone would put the book down before they get the chance to know the characters.

Everyone should know these characters. The development of the plots and ability to smoothly continue a series with this many characters is nothing short of a miracle. Yet, somehow the author does it beautifully. The reader feels as though they know each individual person and can visualize their world very clearly.

These books are always insanely hot and this one is no exception. But I love the characters and their stories as much as the smoking hot scenes. The author hooked me with hot sex but kept me coming back for the awesome characters.

Now, we wait for the next spinoff with Linus' crew. I can't wait. These books are some of the few I always one-click.

Wasn't sure how I was going to like this one.... I'm not a fan of menage, reads.
In saying that... I loved Psycho, Tank and Elijah, and also Hunter, so I wanted to see
    him have some happy.

So, in this one... Hunter gets asked out by the cop that's been sitting outside Brawlers for the last year... He's insecure and has low self-esteem, which is understandable when you hear about all the guys who put him down because of one thing or another, his body type or how fuzzy he is. I think that'd be cute. Anyway, Wren asks him out and he enjoys the date, but he realizes he may have hut Linus in the process. Now, apparently Hunter is clueless, because everyone knew that Linus was in love with him...everyone but him.

Now, there's a lot of action in this one. Dirty, bigoted cops and vigilantes and commandos.... there was a lot there to work with, meanwhile, the three guys try to figure out the workings of a triad.
It was sweet and I loved how the guys were with Hunter, he needed sweet and gentle I feel like.

One problem I had though, was.... Hunter, in other books, couldn't walk five steps without nearly killing himself... but, he had no problems in this one. He burnt dinner once, but that was it. He was perfectly normal and not the clumsy guy they made him out to be for the last two or three books.
Its not a big deal, but that's what made him so vulnerable to me. You couldn't help but wanna take care of him. In this one, he was just insecure....
Other than that though, I really enjoyed the story and I loved the ending. Hot guys with kids are my kryptonite. Not my favorite in the series, but... I enjoyed it.

I really hope to see Harper get her story and maybe Derrick too. Really looking forward to the Executioners.

    4 stars from me.

Ok. So, with the previous four books I took a star off for the fact that they all need a good editing, but I'm giving this one all five stars because ... Damn! This was one intense ride and I'm officially 100% addicted to these books. I love how the whole series tackles such a wide range of topics, from homophobia, bigotry, and transphobia to domestic violence, past incarceration, and gang violence. The love and acceptance that these men have found in their "chosen" family is really amazing and you can't help but fall in love with all of them. They are rowdy, foul mouthed and have few sexual boundaries, but they are loyal and devoted to a fault. I loved reading about how Linus and Wren go about winning their man, Hunter, and how the three of them navigate their unique relationship. Definitely one of my favorites and I can't wait to see where the author takes these men next. Exceptionally good!

Sad closure (because it's the last of the series) to Brawler's series but good foreshadow of new series.

Although there were distracting formatting errors, I really enjoyed "Hunter". (According to the author's website, the formatting errors have been corrected and now the ball is in Amazon's court for releasing a corrected edition. As of 6.17.17, Amazon has NOT released the corrected edition.) Status update: I had to call Amazon to get a download of the corrected version of this book.

I've read all Dabney's Twirled and Brawler's books and lose myself in the enjoyment of tattooed bad-assed bikers finding love. There are many laugh-out-loud moments and not a lot of angst time although serious issues (child abuse, dirty cops) are touched upon. The only criticism I have of "Hunter" is that the book seemed to be more about Linus than Hunter (which means the name of the book is somewhat misleading). Linus' family is hilarious! Would love for JM to let the reader know more about how Priest and Lucky's relationship is developing. That said, I loved Hunter, Linus, and Wren together. I can't wait for Sin, Saint, and the new town sheriff's story. Hey JM! Write fast!!!

I had previously posted a review when the book had a terrible formatting error. That has been fixed, and the new version is now much easier to read (previously, every paragraph was numbered like a list).

I get a lot of enjoyment from the Brawlers series. There's a lot of fun watching these rough-and-tough men work out their issues before finally finding their Happily Ever After. Here we have quiet and slightly shy Hunter. He's had a thing for the new police officer, Wren, but he also has been very much attracted to his close friend Linus. But Hunter doesn't have the toned body the others do, and he sports a lot of body hair, so he figures he's not attractive. Well, not to these two men. Both Linus and Wren want Hunter. Linus is kicking himself for not acting on his attraction to Hunter and watching Wren steal him away, and Wren is jealous of Linus because Hunter is already close to him. Watching these three work out their issues is very much fun indeed.

I will agree there is a formating problem here. I nearly gave up as this type of thing drives me mad. Every paragraph has a number. I really love this series however and I did find I could overlook it eventually. If this was any other author this would have gone back but I did still enjoy this although psychos story is still my favourite
