Jason the Penguin: (He's Different) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 28 ratings

The first in the 'Jason the Penguin' series.

“Jason's super cool, fun, laid-back, happy go lucky personality forces the kid to realise the power of self worth, to be positive that they are not alone! The dad's frustration and lack of understanding can be related to by the parents, close family members and the children! I found it to be profoundly helpful!! Short but very powerful, Jason's story delivers strong messages in a subtle, cute, funny and easy way! I loved it! My daughter deeply connected to the story and said "it made her happy!" “

About the Author

Following thirty odd years in the British Army, Deb and her husband Allan decided to become weather refugees and settle in Cyprus.
Throughout her life Deb has dabbled with writing. Her first book was 'Reindeer Dreams' - a quirky rhyming Christmas story for children featuring Barry the reindeer and his family. Her first grown-up books about aliens and unearthly spiders could be explained as off the wall. The Afterlife trilogy came next with a few 'Jason the Penguin' books in between.
The first book in the current series 'Unlikely Soldiers', is set in 1970s Britain, with others to follow through the decades.
Deb now spends her time writing, working part-time, avoiding housework and playing tour guide along with Allan. She tries to keep the pounds off by playing netball and long-distance walking.
She loves hearing from readers and can be contacted via debmcewansbooksandblogs.com

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

During her downtime Deb likes escaping from reality (and housework) to the bondu. This is where her characters and their stories are born.

She enjoys writing in different genres and this could be the reason why she’s not a New York Times best seller yet (though there could be lots of other reasons too.) Deb’s series include the supernatural suspense Afterlife books, the first of which was inspired by ants, Unlikely Soldiers (based on some of her experiences in the British Army) and The Island Dog Squad series of novellas. She’s also written children’s books about Jason the penguin and Barry the reindeer, a novel about netball players, as well as a non-fiction book about a boy born to be different (co-written with Zak’s Mum, Joanne). There are also two novels in the Aliens Guide series. Her latest books, The Island Expats, are cosy mysteries set on the fictional island of Souvia.

Her current work in progress is a fun read (not) about how she coped with cancer.

Deb’s husband, Allan, is also a weather refugee and they live in Cyprus with their rescue dog, Sandy.

A delightful read about a penguin who is a little different then the others. At first his parents worry, but then realize that he is just as he is supposed to be. The illustrations are adorable and I especially love how the penguins grab tea.

Loved the story and the message. The meter (or should I say metre?) is perfect. The colors and illustrations are memorably delightful. And really, who doesn't love a good penguin story? Will be buying this for all my friends' children and grandchildren!

What a lovely, lovely book!!!
Jason is different, he doesn't speak like the others! Even his dad doesn't understand a word that he says! And god did we relate to this book in my house.... Two of my children had medical problems that leaded to speech delays, mistaken and deformed sounds which made their speech unclear and understandable to everybody but me ... Jason's story is a wonderful mix of child psychology and a help yourself kind of books, which makes its help versatile! It can be associated to many different cases from a simple foreign accent to a deeper speech problem!!!! Jason's super cool, fun, laid-back, happy go lucky personality forces the kid to realise the power of self worth, to be positive and that they are not alone! The dad's frustration and lack of understanding can be related to by the parents, close family members and the children! I found it to be profoundly helpful!! Short but very powerful, Jason's story delivers strong messages in a subtile, cute, funny and easy way! I loved it! My daughter deeply connected to the story and said "it made her happy!"

I bought the paperback version of Jason the Penguin - actually, I bought two. One to keep and one for my grandchildren. The whole concept of a little penguin with an 'Up North' accent, who is delightfully different, is refreshingly funny. When Jason 'hatched' and uttered his first words I laughed out loud. A super little book that children will find entertaining and wonderfully visual. Recommend

I've just received this in the half term and cannot wait to take it into the primary school I work at. It's a short read, looking at the quirky way we look at (different) and how we just need to listen to each other.Beautifully written in rhyme to capture the imagination of even the youngest child. Love the fact the end is open ended leaving young minds ready to explore the option of what comes next.

Being a good ole Yorkshire lass, I could not help but fall in love with this wonderful little picture book. The beautiful illustrations are bright & colourful complimenting the poetic verse. Both light & humorously funny. A truly rhythmic read, to delight children of all ages. It had me hooked & grinning like a Cheshire cat. I am off to buy a printed copy to take and gift to my little nephew. I cannot wait to read it to him, although he'll be able to read it for himself soon.

I bought this for my 4-year-old son and he loved it! Jason the Penguin is very cute and the Yorkshire accent is an original touch, to say the least! The clever thing about the accent is that it makes the story funny to adults, so both parent and child will enjoy it. Well done, Deb McEwan!
