Trailer on the Fly (The Time Travel Trailer Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 511 ratings

An IndieBRAG Medallion honoree.

Bev was believed to have been washed away in the flood and was never found. As I sat thinking about it, my gaze fell on the spot behind my garage where last year I kept the old 1937 camper trailer I had bought from my friend Ben Walker. I still owned it, but now it was back behind Ben’s barn, locked up and surrounded by weeds. It was a great piece of the past, with a wood interior and checked linoleum floor. The cabinets all had refrigerator-style latches and the icebox was an old wooden style that required a block of ice in the top. It worked quite well for short trips. I had stripped the Sixties wallpaper and refinished all of the wood. I made curtains out of vintage aprons and scrounged thrift shops for period accessories. It was sweet. It also time traveled.

How many of us have wished at some time or other we could go back in time and change an action or a decision or just take back something that was said? But it is what it is. There is no rewind, reboot, delete key or any other trick to change the past, right? Lynne McBriar can. She bought a 1937 camper that turned out to be a time portal. And when she meets a young woman who suffers from serious depression over the loss of a close friend ten years earlier, she has the power to do something about it. And there is no reason not to use that power. Right?

Editorial Reviews

Review

I absolutely loved this book! The author's writing style is so comfortable and easy-going that I felt like Lynne was an old friend that I was dropping by to visit with for a while. As I read about the Sisters on the Fly, it made me wish that I could join the group myself; however, I think I would have to pass on any future river adventures. Well done! --IndieBRAG readerThis is the second of two books dealing with a time-travelling trailer, but the author included enough information within the narrative for the reader to understand the back story. In other words, it worked equally well as a stand alone novel. The story was exactly what you would expect from the cover and the blurb. A 'cozy' story, but with an intriguing plot. The author dealt nicely with some of the SF conundrums of time travel. The only constructive criticism I can offer is with pace. Some of the more exciting moments were over and done with rather quickly, while some of the middle scenes seemed to drag. For example, an important road accident near the beginning was over in a flash, while later on there was too much information (in my opinion) about table arrangements and plates of food. The main character was excellently drawn, likeable and believable, with a great teenage daughter (spot on) and an interesting and complex marital relationship. Some of the minor female characters were sketchy, but that didn't detract from the main narrative. A good read.--IndieBRAG reader

Karen Musser Nortman, after previous incarnations as a secondary social studies teacher (22 years) and a test developer (18 years), returned to her childhood dream of writing mysteries. Her first series, The Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries, sprouted from numerous camping trips in Iowa and through at least 24 other states. The Frannie Shoemaker Mysteries center around a group of retirees who camp together and sometimes stumble over dead bodies. Six of the books have been designated IndieBRAG medallion honorees and three have been finalists in Chanticleer CLUE and Mystery and Mayhem contests. Most of the books are based on actual campgrounds.

Karen has two other series. The Time Travel Trailer series follows the adventures of Lynne McBriar who buys a vintage camper that turns out to be a time portal. The first in the series, by the same name, was the 2015 category winner in the Chanticleer Paranormal contest. The Mystery Sisters is a new series involving two seventy-something sisters who travel the country in a 1950 Studebaker, argue, annoy their relatives, and solve mysteries.

Karen has three children and eight grandchildren. She also loves reading, gardening, and knitting, and can recite the 99 counties of Iowa in alphabetical order.

I think I liked this book even more than I liked the first in the series - and I had enjoyed that one very much!
The storyline was really intriguing with Lynne going back just 10 years and actually having some plans to try to alter events. I loved how the story played out, I loved the time travel aspect, and I loved the characters (new and old).
I'm looking forward to the series finale now!

Lynn goes camping with a group a group of women 10 years in the past in order to save the life of one woman, and the sanity of another. Not as much a time travel book as a cozy mystery. Things don’t exactly work out as planned. Fun, light-hearted story with several questions left unanswered, but worth a read.

I loved this book. It was so different than your everyday mystery. Time travel is so intriguing when you think about it. This book is very thought provoking. I thought it was a really good book and I will be thinking about it for some time. I did not read the first book but I wish I had. But I will read the next one in this series. I like all of the books that this author writes!

I'm going to read book 3 and am hoping it closes the story. I didn't find thus as interesting as book 1. It felt like I was reading a few chapters if a book rather than a novel. Kinda like waiting for the next episode of a tv series. Hoping book 3 is better. I already got it Irvine probably wouldn't bother with it.

Unlike the first book, there is only one trip made - to save a friend of a client of Lynne's. And Lynne learns many lessons about time travel, even when done with the best of intentions. I actually liked this better than the first, simply because Lynne had such a great time. Not enough Ben and Minnie, but Ben has recovered well from the last book. And we learn something from the first book wasn't as it seemed. Very quick read, and again more for the age group of 12-15. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Several time travel episodes for the little vintage trailer has created problems in Lynne's life. Now she has really got her hands full with the final one. Trying to prevent a death and being able to return to modern times.

The main character's daughter grew up so much in one year since the first book! This one introduces a huge list of good-hearted campers to join the main character's effort to help a suicidal friend. When she returns to 2015, she finds some things have changed. It was a fun read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zeitreise in einem Campingwagen
Reviewed in Germany on September 4, 2016

No one knows the rules of time travel not even Asimov this take on conundrum and paradox is well thought out and unique.
We like the characters they have some meat on their bones. The telling is slow and lazy not much tension but then its not that type of novel.
If you like a well crafted tale to read on a lazy afternoon this is for you.
