Cheesy Start But Somehow Hooked Me In

When I stumbled upon this book, I thought, "Oh great, another vampire book." The Twilight series were so annoying for me, especially the last book. And HBO completely ruining the True Blood Series by straying off the books had me upset.

But I chose to download the sample of the kindle edition. Though I found the prologue very cheesy -- the whole 'ghost' putting a curse on 2 men was too cliche for me -- I gave the book a chance. After Chapter 1, I was a little bit intrigued. In Chapter 2, I was shocked. And with such a fast pace, the plot progressed with each chapter, and the next thing I know, I reached the end of Chapter 4 and the end of the sample book. I found myself clicking "Buy This Book" to read more of the book. For some reason, this book pulled me in with its interesting and distinct characters and the fast pace was a fresh change from the other book series I've read that go on and on and on, making you think that the author drags the plot on purpose to make more books, making more money in the process.

If you like:
1. Paranormal
2. Romance
3. A writer that makes you laugh out loud with conversations and actions of the characters

And do not mind:
1. Dark Things (the book contains quite brutal/violent things)
2. Sex Scenes

Then buy this book. It does not fully focus on romance and the book was not written just for the sex scenes, which is a great change for me. I've gotten tired of characters sexually attracted to each other and then telling each other that they're in love when they barely knew each other. That's not love; that's lust.

So anyway. In Summary:
- Great Fast-Paced Plot
- Great Romance, Not Lust-Focused
- Great Action, Tessa does a good job describing the fighting and battle scenes
- Great Characters, they all have different qualities, making them endearing to the reader

I am hoping this book and this author gets popular, as she deserves it for creating such a unique series. The ending of this book made me squeal and I cannot wait for the next book! Definitely buying it :)

Die ist der Auftakt der "Blood Curse" Reihe und für jeden Fan des Genres Vampire/PNR/Fantasy ein absoluter Geheimtipp. Ist die Autorin Tessa Dawn bisher leider noch eher unbekannt, so kann sie jedem Frost/Ward/Adrian Fan nur wärmstens empfohlen werden.

Die Reihe handelt vornehmlich um die Brüder der Silivasi Familie - Vampire und Söhne des Haus Jadons. Marquis, ein Krieger, ist der älteste der fünf Brüder (ca. 1500 Jahre alt), gefolgt von dem Krieger Nathanial und seinem Zwillingsbruder dem Heiler Kagen (mehr als 1000 Jahre alt) sowie den 500 Jahre "jungen" Nachari, ein Zauberer, der erst kürzlich seinen Zwillingsbruder verlor. Die Silivasi Brüder leben zusammen mit anderen Vampirfamilien des Haus Jadons in den Tälern der Rocky Mountains und betreiben dort diverse touristische Einrichtungen sowie Bergbauanlagen. Einige wenige Menschen wissen um die wahre Identität der Brüder und gehören zum engsten Kreis der Vertrauten. Aber es gibt natürlich auch Widersacher, wie z. B. die Lycans - Werwölfe, die Vampire jagen - sowie die Dark Ones bzw. Söhne Jaegars, eine andere Spezies von Vampiren.

Vor ca. 2800 Jahren haben Menschen sich mit Göttern vereint aber die königlichen Zwillingsbrüder Jadon und Jaegar strebten nach mehr Macht. Daher opferten sie die weiblichen Nachkommen der Götter, bis es fast keine mehr gab. Als Strafe für diese Greueltat wurden die Brüder mit dem Blood Curse verflucht - von nun an sollten sie sowie deren Nachkommen auf ewig Blut statt Nahrung zu sich nehmen und nur noch männliche Nachkommen als Zwillingspaare erzeugen können, wovon der erstgeborene Sohn geopfert werden muss. Seelenlos verdammt dazu, nie lieben zu können und ihre Partnerinnen bei der Geburt ihrer Söhne zu verlieren.

Jadon, der im Gegensatz zu seinem Bruder Jaegar kein Blut an seinen Händen trug, flehte um Gnade und so wurde der Fluch für ihn und seine Nachkommen abgewandelt: die Söhne Jadons haben die Möglichkeit, ein einziges Mal in ihrem Leben eine Partnerin/Liebe ("Destiny") zu finden, ein Omen wird am Himmel erscheinden ("Blood Moon") und derjenige, für den dieses bestimmt ist, muss innerhalb von 30 Tagen seine Partnerin an sich binden. Wie auch bei den Söhnen Jaegars muss der erste Sohn zwar geopfert werden aber die Partnerinnen überleben die Geburt unbeschadet. Zudem können die Söhne Jadons ("Light Ones") im Tageslicht leben, während die Söhne Jaegars ("Dark Ones") zu Wesen der Nacht verdammt wurden.

In diesem Teil geht es hauptsächlich um Nathaniel Silivasi sowie Jocelyn Levi. Jocelyn ist eine Polizistin und ermittelt in einem Fall von Menschenhandel. Ein Informant gibt ihr einen Tipp und so landet sie inmitten des Red Canyons auf der Suche nach dem Verbrecherring, nicht ahnend, dass sie sich auf dem Territorium der Dark Ones befindet. Nachdem sie Zeuge eines grauenhaftes Ritual der Dark Ones wird, ist sie schwer traumatisiert und folgt nur noch ihrem Fluchtinstinkt, der sie geradewegs in Nathaniel Silivasi laufen lässt. Jocelyn, die die Erkenntnis dass es Vampire gibt, kaum greifen kann, bleibt kaum Zeit zum Luft holfen, denn schon erscheint der Blood Moon am Himmel und alte Zeichen auf ihrem Arm. Nathaniel, der nach 1000 Jahren, fast die Hoffnung auf sein Destiny aufgegeben hat, bleibt nur noch ein Gedanke, Jocelyn muss in Sicherheit gebracht werden - doch diese ist davon alles andere als begeistert und geht in ihrem Widerstand bis zum Äußersten.

Alles in allem ist Tessa Dawns geschaffene Welt äußerst faszinierend, spannend aber auch sehr brutal (nichts für schwache Nerven). Die Silivasi Brüder sind sympathisch aber Dawn zeigt ganz bewußt, dass diese es gewohnt sind, ganz oben in der Nahrungskette zu stehen. Romantik ist daher nicht gerade ihre Stärke aber dafür geht die Autorin mit jeder Menge Humor an die Sache und lässt witzige Situationen entstehen. Aber auch traurige und ergreifende Momente schafft Dawn glaubhaft. Besonders gefällt mir, dass diese Vampire nicht nur kämpfen, sondern einem "normalen" Leben nachgehen und nicht nur hierarchisch ihrem Alter entsprechen, sondern auch sprachlich keinem neumodischen Slang verfallen. Eine Reihe, die auf jeden Fall vielversprechend mit Blood Awakening weiter geht.

OMG!!! I'm at a loss for words to describe my feeling about this book. Blood Destiny is one of the most intense, shocking, and thrilling stories I've read. I was intrigued, I was captivated, and I was repulsed, not to mention grossed out by the animalistic violence in this dark paranormal romance.

Blood Destiny is more horror than romance though, which the horror-movie-junkie in me loved. It's brutal and gruesome in its explicit mayhem and graphic ritual scenes. The vampires in this story, even the good ones, are very true to their nature. There is no paranormal fluff in this book. With that said, the author countered the book's intensity with brilliant humor (I loved Braden) and also some romance and steam toward the end.

Blood Destiny is an extremely well written, character driven, action packed dark paranormal romance. I loved this book but it is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! I can not stress that enough!!! If you're looking for a darker, edgier read with a splash of romance, you might want to consider giving this book a try. I also suggest reading other reviews to get a good sense of what awaits you.

Caution: There is a rape scene I found troubling (not heroine). Please use discretion before reading this book.

Erneut eine Serie mit übermenschlich schönen, sehr männlichen und mächtigen Vampiren, die sich nach Frauen verzehren.

Eine mit Magie begabte Rasse im Rumänien vor 2800 Jahren wollte von den Göttern mehr Macht und rottete deshalb ihre gesamten Frauen aus. Und wurden deshalb durch einen Fluch zu Vampiren. Davon gibt es zwei: Die Dunklen, die nur in der Nacht leben können und sehr böse sind, und die Guten, die auch am Tage leben können. Alle leben von Blut, ihre Nachkommen haben sie mit menschlichen Frauen. Die Hellen finden die ihnen bestimmte Frau durch ihr Sternenzeichen und den rotgefärbten Mond.
Die Geschichte handelt von der Vampirfamilie Silivasi, dessen 3-Ältester, Nathaniel, seine vorgesehe Gefährtin, Jocelyn, findet. Jocelyn ist Polizistin und auf der Jagd nach einem Mädchenhändlerring. Sie gerät in eine Situation, in der sie das Abschlachten einer hochschwangeren Frau durch einen dunklen Vampir beobachten muss. Schwer traumatisiert lernt sie die Silivsis kennen. Innert 30 Tagen muss sie nun Nathaniel Nachwuchs schenken, sonst muss er sterben.

Irgendwie konnte ich mit dieser Geschichte nicht warm werden, zu klischeehaft, zu wenig Neues. Dafür sehr viel Grausamkeit, im Detail beschrieben, für die Geschichte nicht nötig und sehr abstossend. Die im Schnelltempo ablaufende Romanze wirkt unglaubhaft. Eine Schwangerschaft in zwei Tagen mit Geburt via sich in Luft auflösende Moleküle und dann ist das Baby da. Wär ja toll, aber na ja. Zuviel Ungereimtes.
