The Soul Reaver: An Urban Fantasy Novel (Myre Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Who can a monster trust in a world filled with monsters?
Daphne despises what she is: a creature who steals souls to live. On the night of her yearly hunt she chooses the wrong soul, consequently tumbling into the supernatural world she was born to be a part of but never knew existed.
Lonely for the most part of her life, she is excited to finally belong, but Trinity’s supernatural community neither trusts, nor wants her. People are out to get her from the very beginning and Daphne is faced with a choice.
She can either trust a mysterious stranger, who vows to answer all her questions and help her adapt, or face the unknown alone.
Whatever she decides; it has to be soon. Someone is after her since she left the hidden safety of the human world. Someone powerful. Someone who has been looking for her for a long time.
There is safety in numbers, but Daphne has never been good at making friends.
Can she brave this alien society and stay alive long enough to find her place?
Fall in love with a deeply flawed character and the band of misfits she encounters along her journey!

About the author

Victoria Larque has told stories since she can remember. Tall tales, one could say. Stories have always fascinated her, helped her grow, and were a means to escape.
Today, she writes Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. Her love for the genre is rooted in the fact that she has rules to go by, but can bend and even break them if need be. She was born and raised in the wonderful country of Namibia and is now residing and working in Germany where she lives in the woods with her adorable, grumpy husband.

Apart from being beautifully consistent, the author did a stellar job in the world building and character development, and as I mentioned, she takes a different approach to the supernatural community. Her prologue is a glimpse into one of the most beautiful love stories I would love to read.
The main character is Daphne, a soul reaver, an orphan unaware of the others, forced to kill to survive. She is also feared and hated by most of the supernaturals simply because of her nature. Her resilience is simply impressive. The amount of raw emotion the author managed to convey in the first part of the book is unparalleled. The pain, loneliness and confusion Daphne feels are palpable and available for the reader to experience.
There are two issues that author tackles in an amazing way, and I could not be more impressed with her approach. Firstly, there is discrimination among races of supernaturals, especially the soul reavers who are being feared, hated and eliminated just because of what they are, without any consideration for giving the individuals some benefit of a doubt. The way the author portrays the hatred, fear and discrimination, makes it difficult for the reader not to feel for the main character and the hardships she faces. Fortunately, the author does not leave a reader without the positive influence of the characters who fight the discrimination with everything they have. Secondly, there is the issue of same sex attraction which is still quite rare, but the author treats it as any other regular topic, in other words, she does not make an issue out of it, which could not make me happier.
There is an array of fantastic characters, Kate, Jay, and Topher being some of them, and there is an array of unlikable characters, all of which are well developed and realistic. Then there is Rufus, my dream pet, one of the cutest fictional pets ever invented.
I have to mention that the book has an open ending and leaves things partially unresolved, so keep that in mind when starting. I am obviously dying to read more and cannot wait for the next book to be available. The Soul Reaver Alloy (Myre Series Book Two) and The Demon Shadow Play (Myre Series Book Three) have been announced.

I highly recommend this, but caution readers that it has graphic sexual scenes and quite a bit of violence.

Trinity has been a thriving city full of Myres, legendary creatures that blend with humans on a daily basis. They walk among them, but also have their own world that works in unison so they can all live in harmony.
Daphne is a soul reaver, she just doesn’t know it yet. Living in the human world, all she knows is that she’s different. When she comes into her own, everything changes, and not just for her but for the entire underworld that she finds herself a part of. The cast of characters is well fleshed out here and they all have their own goals and lives. It was fascinating to delve into this new world and...
Oh My God, we cannot forget about Mistrael. I’m a romance reader at heart and boy, did he ever do it for me. He and Daphne go from mortal enemies to something so much more. It was romance but not necessarily a romance novel.
Love!! Cannot wait for the sequel!!

As her birthday draws to a close, she can no longer put off the inevitable and she begins her search for the darkest soul. This year, her choice changes her life forever and she is thrown in to a world she never knew existed. A world of Myres, creatures of legends and myths, that co-exist with the humans. She soon discovers who and what she is: a Soul Reaver. Unfortunately, Myres fear her and want her dead. Daphne has entered a world in which she no longer knows who to trust and who to fear.
This is the type of story I love: equal part action, equal part romance. I can’t wait for the sequel.
If you enjoy paranormal stories, this is a must read.
