Threads Rewoven: A Flash Fiction & Poetry Collection Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2 ratings

An eclectic collection of prose and poetry that offers a brief escape into a variety of worlds and characters, Threads Rewoven is the ideal coffee-break companion.

Sparked by a series of writing prompts, the threads of inspiration became short stories and poetry. Gathered together in this volume, Threads Rewoven features the complete collection of prompted musings.

With tales ranging from post-apocalyptic science-fiction to childhood fantasy, from macabre tales of death and loneliness to the pure love of a child; Threads Rewoven presents the best from an adventure into flash fiction for three British authors.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A nostalgic blend of short stories that take you by surprise, and deep poetry that lingers with you long after reading. The eclectic mix of short stories is perfect to dip in and out of with a coffee perhaps. Science and fantasy are plotted next to real life, taking you into the minds and lives of ordinary people who fascinate and bewilder." - Dan Thompson, author of Hatred. Hidden.

About the Author

J.R. Bournville
Originally from Nottingham, J.R. Bournville found her home in Western Scotland, a land still very much alive with magic. Books have always played a large role in her life, with trips to
Narnia and The Shire enchanting her childhood years.
It was only after becoming ill that J.R. began to take her writing seriously, rekindling a desire to share her stories. She said, "There's nothing quite like facing your own mortality to help you realise what's important." Since then, she's been writing as much and as often as possible, specifically short stories and poetry with a distinct fondness for the unusual and the darker side of life.
Prompted Musings offered the freedom for J.R. to experiment, stretching her creative muscles and uncovering a hitherto unknown passion for short-form fiction.

Sophia Renshaw
A steadfast believer that it's never too late to try something new, Sophia discovered, (a little later than she might've liked) the joy of writing. She's loved books since early childhood, but never found the time to write; her storytelling abilities grew thanks in part to the bedtime stories she created for her children.
While words have the power to create or to destroy, Sophia also believes in the healing power of food, music, and the company of animals; her greatest passions in life aside from writing.
She is currently working on a recipe collection ranging from ten-minute meals to winter warmers, soul food to home remedies.

Alexander Douglas
Alexander 'Alex' Douglas is a young author from Scotland, UK. When not writing, Alex enjoys amateur dramatics, both stage performances and audio recordings. He is currently working on a series of audiobooks which he will be self-producing in the near future.
Asked where he pictures himself in twenty years, Alex sees himself sitting in his office, the rolling countryside stretching into the distance, with several of his books sitting beside those of his favourite authors.

An avid reader from an early age, J.R. Bournville relished the oft darker fictions to the isolation and gloom of reality. The first story to truly thrill them was 'Skin' by Roald Dahl which was read as a class at primary school.

After confronting their mortality aged twenty, and surviving numerous brushes with death, J.R. learned how to live again and started writing. Recalling their wonder at 'Skin' from an author known for children's fiction, J.R. knew that was where they belonged; not in a singular box, but in the space between where possibilities live.

They now write short fiction and poetry exploring life, death, and everything in between from their home in Scotland. J.R. can often be found on Twitter @JRBournville and on their website jrbournville.com

When not writing, and with weather permitting, they enjoy photographing landscapes, wildlife, and buildings with character. J.R. shares their home, and their heart, with Kiki, their rescue Japanese Akita.

J.R. was recently accepted as a contributor to The Longest Night Watch Volume 3, a charity anthology benefiting the Alzheimer's Association.

I received an ARC of Threads Rewoven in exchange for an honest review.

I very much enjoyed this eclectic collection of flash fiction and poetry by three very different but talented writers. In this Omnibus Edition, they have achieved a good balance of serious and tongue-in-cheek, poetic and yet gripping writing, all delivered in bite-sized chunks that are perfect to read when you don’t have a lot of time. I often find myself wanting to read right before bedtime, but reluctant to pick up a novel with long chapters. This collection offered the perfect opportunity for a quick escape, as none of the short stories are longer than a few pages. All the pieces included were both thoughtful and thought-provoking, and while some were a little dark for my taste, I would definitely read work by all three authors again.

I received an advance copy of this collection and I voluntarily write an honest review.
Fantastic array of “musings” on life, “what-if” and miscellaneous horror themes! I loved the variety of offerings and was delighted with the step from one to another. Prose and poetry flow beautifully together.
