About the authors
Frank Kelso grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, the origin of the Santa Fe Trail. Historic sites, monuments, and statues abound highlighting the journey west, including the Wagons West, Pioneer Women and the Indian Scout located on the bluffs overlooking the wide Missouri. Writing western themed books fit in with his upbringing. His parents considered storytelling a family tradition and the taller the tale, the better, when sharing around the supper table. A biomedical research scientist in his day job, Frank writes short stories and novels to keep the family traditions alive. He enjoys living on an island on the Alabama Gulf Coast at the Florida border. Can you say Flora-Bama Beach Bar? Welcome to Paradise Island: sunny days, sugar white sands, turquoise blue water, fishing, and smooth sailing. Come on down, Y’all.

It is a heartfelt narrative of their adventures and bonding friendships during those unique and life-changing times. But a cross-border war rages along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass TX …Cattle rustled … Ranches burned … Innocents killed or kidnapped.
The Cortiña bandoleros are raiding Texas. And after killing her family, Cortina kidnaps 14 year-old Rebecca - Jeb’s niece!
Cortiña’s hideout is an adobe-walled fort. A Cavalry Company couldn’t take it without artillery. How can two men attack it and expect to walk away?
The Law won’t … And the US Cavalry can’t cross the Rio … so can Jeb and Zach wade the Rio Bravo to rescue a stolen girl?
I really enjoyed this book although I thought it was a little wordy in places. The plot is a busy one, but captivating. The dialogue raises a smile, it was definitely written as spoken. There was no posturing evident, just good western action.

Seems there are some leftover political alliances on both sides of the U.S. border. Unfortunately, unscrupulous moneymaking propositions are continuously sending steer-rustling bandoleros across the Rio from Mexico.
Vowing to find his niece, Jeb has to come up with a plan. His ever-changing plan consists of saving Becky. He also needs to stay out of the clutches of the Federales and Miguel Cortina’s armed banditos. Staying out of jail is part of the plan too. But the plan has a few holes in it and needs reworking, based on which side of the Rio their guns are pointing. “Few minor hitches in the giddy-up,” Jeb replies to Zach’s question about how his plan is working. “Still got to get out alive,” Zach says before a giant skirmish.
California Bound is an exhilarating story filled with humor, romance and historical facts about the old West. Will Jeb and Zach rescue Becky? Will they make it to California? If you like Westerns, read this novel today and find out whether the plan works!
