A handsome cowboy, a distressed heroine, and a mystery with lots of twists and turns. What more could we ask for in a good romantic suspense? Poor Hannah thought life was finally bringing her good luck and prosperity when she won the lottery. Instead her good luck turned rotten in a hurry. Her friend/partner meets with an untimely accident, her bank account is emptied, delightfully twshe is left without transportation on the ranch she believes she owns and now is in possession of animals she doesn’t know anything about. When Trace shows up with the animals, she mistakes him for a ranch hand, not the ranch owner. He sees she is in distress and does his best to help. When he learns her partner, the person who arranged to get the animals, is dead, he offers his assistance to the beautiful but overwhelmed Hannah. It doesn’t take long to discover the missing money, or for strange incidents to keep happening around Hannah. An over sexed, spiteful and rather spoiled teenager determined to get her hands on Trace, adds to Hannah’s troubles. As the incidents take a dangerous turn, Trace becomes determined to protect Hannah even if she isn’t sure she should trust him. A mutual attraction soon turns into something more, and the two lovers must find some way to stop the unseen enemy before things turn deadly.

I loved the intrigue and danger featured in this book along with the two fascinating, strong-willed main characters. I was hooked right from the first page to the last, anticipating a happy ending, but intrigued and captivated by their journey along the way. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

To be quite honest, I was quite the fan of another series writer of some fame but in my mind, she had become a little predictable. I was searching for another theme or series writer when I discovered Cricket Rohman's Colorado Takedown, the first installment of the McAllister Brother's series. At fist I though it might be more of a romance novel than anything else but I was willing to take a chance on it. Oh wow, I am I glad I did. Romance? Yes! But so much more...mystery, intrigue, murder, and more, sewn together perfectly to keep me turning the pages late into the night. I am now waiting impatiently for the second installment. I have found a new and talented author to follow. You should too.

I am hesitant to only give 3 stars, but I feel that there are many discrepancies and I think they should be considered. The premise of the story was good and needed to be explored more. The timeline did not make sense. I felt it needed a thorough rewrite of several chapters . Honestly, the writing was sophomoric at best. It read like a high school paper, not a published book. It has the potential for an enjoyable read if it had been edited properly.
