I enjoyed this story that is part of a new series, A Texas Lawkeeper Romance, by a group of talented authors. Each story in the series will read as a stand-alone and can be read in any order. The stories will all feature law enforcement heroes and the women who love them. The stories are sweet, clean based stories where the lawman finds his woman. Each will read as a stand-alone book.
Once upon a time, two children will meet and make a pack, it is March 1841 in Bright Star, Texas. They only know first names, but a commitment is made between an eleven-year-old boy, Gabriel, and almost seven-year-old, Faye. The repercussions of their parents will alter their destiny. While families will tear them apart, and only memories remain—until twenty years later, and now it is October 1861—and fate will join them back together.
“Miss Faye, I know it seems quite silly to say so, but I think we were meant to meet—I think us meeting today was destiny—Miss Faye, will you be my fairy bride? We’ll make our own adventure together?” –Gabriel

The plot of the story will have two children met and torn apart that same day, and both will fondly think of the other, he will give her a ring he weaves and she a heart stone she found. Both raised in homes that did not have a loving nature and yet left each with a memory of the past. What will happen when twenty years later they met again? One has held to the promise in hopes of a future—the other hadn’t but was given a gift that is precious.
Faye’s parents are gone, but she inherited the home place. She is the town’s school teacher, considered a spinster, and must live and abide by strict guidelines. Meeting new student, Titania will forge a friendship with this sweet motherless child, understand what it is like as a girl without a mother. Not knowing who her father is, his identity will leave her disheartened and even feeling betrayed. Meeting up with the man she has pined for the past two decades will comes as a shock.
“I waited for you,” she whispered painfully, staring at him. “You asked me to wait and said you’d come. I was steadfast because you said you’d return. I believed you.”
“He’d not forgotten her but simply lost his way. This was the reason she’d waited for him. This was the boy she remembered with the devotion so crisp and intense in his eyes. We’ll write our own story and start our life together.”
The story is a tale that has sadness and joy and also shows how people can be—especially ones who claim to be Christians but don’t act like it. When Gabriel makes a public declaration for her in front of the church, people start gossiping and saying cruel things about her character—even dismissing her from her teaching position on site. Faye will take care of Titania while Ranger Gabriel Reardon is out protecting the town and ranchers who are losing cattle to rustlers. But when he returns, he won’t waste another day to make her his—even if that promise took twenty years.
