Starstruck: A Young Adult Science-Fantasy Romance Kindle Edition
I’ve always been the class dork—shy, bookish, not particularly pretty and definitely not popular. In other words, I’ve never been anybody important. Orphaned twice as a toddler, I’m not even sure who I am, other than a burden to my super-strict adoptive “aunt.” But then the gorgeous new quarterback, Rigel, arrives at Jewel High and turns his back on all the popular girls vying for his attention to seek out ordinary me—of all people! I’m over the moon, of course, but the first time Rigel touches me, sparks fly—literally! Then weird things start happening. Suddenly, I no longer need my thick glasses. My complexion improves, too. When I demand to know what’s going on, the answer both thrills and terrifies me. Not only is Rigel my bonded soulmate, apparently I’m not such a nobody after all! But my unexpected status comes with huge risks that threaten both my life and our newfound love.

Why not 5 stars then? Well... YMMV, but here’s what pushed my buttons (in a bad way)...
1) Marsha started out as sympathetic then got kind of arrogant and honestly mean and dismissive after she and Rigel began connecting. Nobody really calls her out on it, which bugged me. She’s supposed to be our heroine, for goodness’ sake. But her rudeness is framed as understandable, which I can only assume is because the author themselves is fine with it. Which, hey, okay. But, as a reader, it’s not fun for me to experience.
2) The Martian politics and external plot were kind of boring. Again, YMMV, but I found my attention wandering during these parts. I also really disliked all that talk about “genetic superiority” of the royals. Again, it’s another thing that the author doesn’t question or present a viable alternative to. She even frames the anti-royals as “shrill” villains, which... Umm. Okay. I feel like an American-raised teen would be a little leery of a monarchy based on RACIAL superiority, but hey, what do I know?
These kinds of books can be a tough hang because often there are questionable or regressive elements, and I guess maybe that’s the case here. But I think if you’re someone who doesn’t really think a lot about this kind of stuff or is just lucky enough to be able to disconnect from reality and enjoy a fun read completely (either way, I envy you!), then this is book is absolutely worth the read.
Things change when the new kid, new quarterback, and oh so hottie R shows up. M isnt the one to be all googoo eyed for him, shes had a crush so bad for some pther cute guy that never seemed to no she existed. But things change
M has always had this uncanny knack to destroy electronics. comps, cells, microwaves .... even digital watches... chalked it up to static electricity.... but when the new kid touches her...they both get a jolt that weirds them both out.
this is where the sci fi begins.... i didnt particularly care for the Mars thing...but hey its a scifi ya book. i did laugh at the references of the books they had to read... lord of the flies to be exact.... had to read that in 10th grade too. like M...i didnt care to much for it either :) typical mean girls... snobby cheerleders... dorks.... jocks... all around hs angst.
if ya liked the plot in Twilight...you'll like this too... i read it to my young nieces and they cant wait to hear what happens next..(me included)
All in all, a great read. clean fun.. no sexy crappy fill ins...
and a happy accident i hit the wrong tab :)

SPOILER
Mause is a ordinary girl with a normal life. Maybe not though.
When a new quarterback arrives at school -and boy he is hot- every girl is hoping to be his girlfriend. However, he's interested in the girl who keeps herself to her self. Mause soon discovers that the new guy knows more about her than she might know. As she spends more and more time with the hot guy - sorry guys I cant spell his name - she uncovers more about her life.
Maybe she isn't a plain Jayne after all and maybe her actual name isn't Mause
You think im gonna tell ya what she is, well you're wrong. Find out for your self!!
