Sheet Music - A Rock 'N' Roll Love Story Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 132 ratings

Annie Logan and her band, White Rush, have been waiting years for their big break. Taking a last chance at stardom, Annie enters them into a ‘battle of the bands contest’ and wins an opportunity to perform with the legendary rock band, Thrust.

This twist of fate puts Annie on a collision course with her larger-than-life rock hero, the infamous guitar God, Michael Wade. Annie’s model good looks and Michael’s dangerously raw rock ‘n’ roll swagger are like a burning fuse on a stick of dynamite. Would she be the woman to finally tame Michael’s wild ways and show him the true meaning of love or would the gritty reality of the music industry prove to be more than she could handle?

A wild ride behind the scenes, Sheet Music will give you a backstage pass into the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle full of egos, excess and extremes; where sometimes even true soul mates aren’t strong enough to survive the heat of the spotlight.

Ann Lister is a native New Englander currently living in Florida with her husband. She has pulled details from her years living in the New England area and uses many local settings and landmarks in her novels.

After graduating art school, marrying, and raising two daughters, she established her own video production company. Her nearly two decades working in video production included work within the music industry and won her a coveted Telly Award. Her 'behind-the-scenes' exposure to the music world and her love of rock music is the inspiration for her erotic rock star romances.

The Rock Gods series gave her Bestselling Author status on Amazon. Beyond The Music, Book 7 in the series, hit #1 in the Gay Erotica genre during the Pre-Order and held that spot for several weeks. This last book in The Rock Gods series launches the spin-off series, Guarding The Gods, which releases in early Summer of 2016.

Fall For Me, Book One in the series was a Finalist in the 2013 Rainbow Award. Each book in this series brings her two favorite elements together: musicians and the love between two men. These stories focus on what it truly means to love; love unconditionally, love without restrictions or labels, love without fear or judgment – to just simply love.

Rock Star Romance

Rock Star Romance
heet Music (love the name), is an angsty rock star romance. It is long, so be prepared when you start. Michael is a 38 year old career rock star who I feel in love with from the start. Does he screw up a few times, sure. But he was so much more than what Annie gave him credit most of the time. His heart was huge and he did so much for her. Annie really puts him through the wringer on more than one occasion and sometimes I just wanted to shake her. Annie...I started out liking her but she couldn't get out of her own way most of the time. Her insecurities were seemingly limitless. She had some valid reasons for her distrustful nature but she projected so much of that onto other people, mostly Michael, that it really was unfair. As I have stated in other reviews, I don't have to like all the characters to like the book. As the old saying goes "the girls always love the boys in the band." The temptation is always there and it has to be the persons choice to not take the apple. You have to trust them to make that choice. There were secondary characters that I wished Lister had expanded. There were a few of the situations outside of the main story that I thought deserved more page time, especially with the length of the book. There is an HEA, but I was hoping for something a little more at the end. It was sweet but I wanted powerful. Overall an enjoyable read. I was gifted a copy for an honest review. Ann Lister has written flawed and emotionally driven characters and every character in this book is very well written. You either love them or hate them. The hero and heroine have a love for each other that borders on obsession and when a couple is obsessed they is no thinking or acting rash when their emotions are involved. The author nails that part of the story dead on. Obsessive love is unhealthy and Mike and Annie struggle to get it right in their relationship.

What I really like about this book - this couple are older (in their 30's hitting 40) and even though they both have been married before they have no idea how to communicate with each other unless sex was involved. When they were apart neither could handle the separations. When you live in the sex-drug-rock-and-roll world life is in the fast lane and anything goes. Mike has had 20 some years in the rock world and when Annie gets a taste of that world, she can't handle the groupie's and fan obsession with Mike. Annie can't trust and being unfaithful to her will be a deal breaker. Mike only wants Annie but his rock and roll family, drugs, alcohol, pressure, death of a friend, depression come between them time and again. At some point in the book I felt Annie's character was a bit over bearing and selfish but hey I would never handle living the rock life myself. Mike not being able to express himself and say no when he should have caused them much unneeded heart ache.

I will say this book will take you on Mike and Annie's roller coaster ride /explosive relationship. When this couple is happy and nothing got between them they made beautiful Perfect "Sheet Music" together. They are soul mates that need counseling lol. Loved this book and is a must read for those who like rock star romance stories.

    ***Warning -- spoilers***

Let me start out by saying that this was a very engrossing story and despite the antipathy I developed for the lead female character, the book held my interest throughout. That's saying a lot, because this was a very long read that follows the characters over a period of several years. I give kudos to the author for writing a good story, but I absolutely hated Annie by the end of it. The book is also sad in many ways, with more than one death. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars and finally settled on 4, because it is a well-written story, especially considering how much garbage is published these days.

Annie is a singer in a Boston area band that includes her ex-husband with whom she now has only a professional relationship. She secretly enters the band's video in a type of American Idol/Star Search type contest (without the TV show) where four bands will be picked to get coaching from the members of a very famous rock band from the Boston area along with a record company contract. This is really a big deal and to Annie's surprise her band is picked as one of the 4 lucky bands to be finalists in the contest. Because her husband is the lead singer and at least the de facto leader of the group, he is angry when he learns what Annie has done behind his back. Her ex is an absolute jerk to Annie and tries his best to sabotage Annie, but she is very forgiving of him. Although he cheated on Annie while married, he becomes especially nasty when he sees that Annie and Michael are attracted to each other.

Sparks fly as soon as Annie meets Michael, who is the band member who will work with her group. Michael is famous and adored by millions of fans, but he falls for Annie right away. Although he and Annie signed an agreement which Michael at least acknowledges, to have no personal contact other than coaching, with the band members, he and Annie begin a relationship.

I had many problems with this book as in any story where I don't like the protagonists. My first problem with these two began with how unethical they were to begin a relationship that gave Annie's band an unfair advantage over the other three bands. Michael states several times how both he and Annie could get into trouble for breaking the contract, but they do it anyway. They acted as if they couldn't control themselves long enough to wait until the contest was over. Both Michael and Annie behaved badly and did a lot of stupid things.

Secondly, Annie put up with a lot of stuff from her ex-husband who was a real sleaze, but Michael tried over and over to do the right thing and was shut down by Annie. Michael wasn't perfect, but he helped Annie and stood by her while she went through some horrific stuff, but she ran out on him at the first sign of trouble. And later she used his children as blackmail to get back at him. I absolutely despise women who use their children as pawns and men who let them get away with it. I wanted Michael to wash his hands of Annie, but of course with this story having to end with a HEA between the H and h, I knew that wouldn't be the case. I got the sense from the way the story was written, that it was somehow OK for Annie to do the things she did. I've seen many times, where women who behave badly are given a free pass. Annie showed no insight, took no responsibility for her actions, and blamed everything on Michael, which was ridiculous. He let her run all over him--I wanted him to "man up" and tell Annie where to go. Can you tell I can't stand wimpy men, LOL?

Later, when Michael's friend/band mate has a totally inappropriate and perverted relationship with an underage girl, it appears that Michael is unconcerned or at least not really bothered about it, until the blowback threatens his friend. And the friend is portrayed as a total freak, even without this sick relationship. The friend's wife is also a piece of work.

In all I applaud the author's skill, but have no wish to read anything other books by her, as this left me very unsatisfied.

WOW!!!!! This book is such an emotional roller coaster. So much goes on at the beginning of the story, I thought what else can happen when I'm only a few chapters in the BOOK!!!! By the end, I was overwhelmed with emotion. The main characters went through so much together. Their "SHEET MUSIC" connection bound them in a way that could not be denied. This story gives a wonderful look behind the scenes of a band on the road, their family, and all the "STUFF" that comes with celebrity. Great book, a MUST READ!!

this book is truly erotic to the point its almost soft porn. Im not saying thats a bad thing i could hardly put this book down. Honestly it sort of flipped a switch in me. It was a great story. what can I say it had a little bit of everything. I will say the female counter part in this book was pretty selfish and self serving in some ways. The guy just kept screwing up unbelievably so. You wanted to just shake both of them! When a book can suck you in and get you involved with the characters like that you know you have a winner of a book.

I've just finished reading Sheet Music for the 2nd time, the first being in Jan 2013, thinking I was prepared for what lay ahead I soon realised I was not..!! I had to put it down a couple of times because it was so intense and emotional just the shear volume of Michael and Annie's story was just unbelievably riveting, honestly I feel as if I need a weeks bed rest heaven knows how Anne Lister felt after writing it.?
Everything about Sheet Music was was brilliant, packed full of every emotion going it has you feeling nervous and on edge and also wanting you to scream at Annie for being so stubborn at times, Michael loved her so much, after everything they went through, thank god they got there in the end..!!
I love Anne Lister, All the Right Reasons and The Rock God series are Fantastic..!!

Christ a-bloody-live, I feel like I've been through the wringer a hundred times over!!! That was a marathon!

How do I even begin to rate or review a book like Sheet Music? I'm going backwards and forwards between 4 and 5 stars.

"If there is chemistry, and the mind and body are working as one, it's nirvana. It's like a well-written symphony or, better yet, perfect... sheet music."
    "Sheet music?"
    "Yeah, music between the sheets."

I absolutely loved it! But I'm tempted to go with 4 stars, only because I feel like it could have been a trilogy with the amount of emotional turmoil, angst and drama in it!! Jesus!

It was long! And so fast paced I almost got motion sickness at times! But I did LOVE it and couldn't put it down!

Lets see... you've got a rock God, a rock chick, love, lust, a car crash, a shooting, infidelity, unplanned pregnancies, a marriage, a divorce, drug addiction, alcoholism, death, attempted rape... to name a handful of the subjects Sheet Music covers! Like I said, emotional turmoil, rapid paced and long... but completely gripping.

The characters are so completely flawed in every way, both of them. But brilliantly developed and you can't help but root for them.

"I'm not sure I can explain it. I have all this raw emotion inside for you and sometimes I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm afraid if I let it out it will be too overwhelming for you and for me."

There were some steamy scenes and the chemistry is intense, but there's so much to this book that the sex scenes almost pale into the background. Also, the use of the word `organ' just doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid.

The only two things that annoyed me were that Michael and Annie seemed to spend more time apart and at times I wanted to stab Annie in the eyes with a fork for being so selfish/dramatic/annoying! And Michael could have done with a swift kick in the balls for being such a wet fish! But he is also completely adorable at times so we can let him off.

"Life has few guarantees, Annie. But one thing I know for certain, I will never stop loving you as long as I can still draw breathe into my lungs."

So yeh, as much as I loved it and was totally taken in, I think it was a bit heavy on the old emotional whiplash and could do with being split into at least two shorter books!

Now that I've finished, I need a glass of wine and to find me something light hearted to read! Phew!

Almost couldn't bear to read it!
With all the underlying tension between all the characters.

Not your typical love story. But plenty of twist and turns throughout.
Certainly was a page turner...addictive reading for me.
