About the author

Award-winning author R Lawson Gamble lives and writes in Los Alamos in the Central Coast of California. In addition to his Zack Tolliver, FBI series he published the pictorial history, Los Alamos Valley, with Arcadia Press, and Payu's Journey, an analogical journey seen through the eyes of Australian animals. He has recently published a Western series, Johnny Alias, currently three books in length. An ardent historian, the author has made appearances as a speaker and has participated in documentary films.
The award-winning Zack Tolliver novels (Gold, Silver, and Bronze from Readers' Favorite International Book Awards) are all crime mystery fiction. Unlike some series in the Native American category, the protagonists Zack Tolliver and Eagle Feather find themselves in different settings in each new novel––intriguing environments with varied cultures, history, and political undercurrents, all of which present unusual impediments to solving the new mystery.
Of course, certain features never change. The reader may expect Zack Tolliver and Eagle Feather in every story, and relatives, associates, and friends make appearances from time to time. Even an arch villain or two sometimes returns. There is always a crime (usually a murder), a mystery, lots of action, suspense, well-researched history, actual topographical features, Native American cultures and myths and, of course, an element of mysticism and the paranormal.

I finished this book in less than 48 hours. It was intense and involved things that I immediately recognized and found common ground with. It is well written and a real page turner. I never set it down but carried it until I finished it. By then. I had ordered four more books in the series.
Thank you Mr. Gamble

Navajo legends
Bunches of bodies of little blonde headed girls
Red piercing eyes staring right at FBI agent Zack Toliver
Evil spirits lurking around, taunting and following FBI agent Zack Toliver
Deadly Pygmy Cactus spines
Easy to follow mystery tracks that turn from one species to another
Put it all together, and what’ve you got? A vortex of intense mystery!
FBI agent Zach Tolliver is on the trail of a thought to be serial killer of little girls with blonde hair. Animal and human footprints are followed through some rugged terrain. Zack has some super scary moments, but they do not deter him from solving the murder cases involving the little girls.
This narrative did hold my interest from start to finish; however, it does get a bit far-fetched. For instance, a threatened/frightened rattlesnake crashes through a glass window, seemingly uninjured, lands on an inquiring photo journalist, who is outside peering through the window, bites him, and the journalist immediately dies. The rattlesnake disappears without leaving any blood behind even tho’ it smashed the glass in the window. I think not…….won’t ever happen that way in my Southwest! Weeeel, maybe it was a supernatural snake with instant death venom, and most definitely was super strong!
A better editor would definitely add to the ease of readability. Scattered typos, misplaced words, and a few other blunders were annoying to this reader, and they could easily be eliminated with good editing.
The storyline is a good one, and is well-developed. For the most part, it moves smoothly and steadily. Most of the characters are likable and also well-developed. The tale starts in and around the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and then travels to California and back to Zack’s ranch. Not only is Zack still learning about the customs of the Navajo tribe, but in California, he learns a bit about the Torres-Martinex Tribe and the Aqua Caliente Indian Tribes.
It’s an interesting tale, and I would recommend it for those who love books about the Southwest.

Zach Tolliver is an FBI agent. His area included the Navajo reservation.
Zach has worked quite well with the Navajo police through the years. In fact Eagle Feather, one of the officers, is a good friend.
Zach gets a call from Eagle Feather about a couple of hunters who have found the body of a caucasian child up on Monument Mesa.
Zach heads over with his truck and horse trailer. Its quite a hike up to where the body is. Once there he and Eagle Feather start looking for tracks. Zach is a pretty good tracker but Eagle Feather is in a class by himself.
The tracks they uncover are baffling to say the least. The tracks look like bear that turned into human. This could be a skinwalker. Navajo witches and witchery. Of course Eagle Feather has no problem believeing this. Its part of his belief system as a Navajo.
Zach, on the other hand, is an FBI agent. He really can't give credence to what his eyes are showing him. This has to be a human murder doing whatever he can to disguise his killing.
Zach is in for the surprise of his life when he follows the tracks on his own. He ends up camping for the night and sees things he just can't believe. More mystery to an already mysterious murder.
Zach brings in Libby, a dog trainer, and her best bloodhound Blue. Blue turns out to be a major player in the whole deal.
So starts one good read.
Zack, Eagle Feather, Libby, the FBI and the Navajo police have landed in one hell of a murder mystery. This case has ties to California and Europe and one killer who is out of this world.
Just a great read. Five stars and then some.
