Alexandra has not traveled to 47 countries, worked in law enforcement for 25 years where she single-handedly apprehended ten of the world's most wanted, or practiced law or psychiatry.

She doesn't speak 5 languages fluently, rival Beethoven on the piano, or send her rescue dogs to save flood victims. In fact, currently, she is pet-less.

She does, however, do a heck of a lot of research.

She has jumped from an airplane, spent the day on a commercial shrimp boat, spent a weekend with a houseful of Navy SEALs, and hitchhiked across 3 states. She has worked for newspapers, taught high school English, and had a lengthy stint as a graphic designer. Raised a son and daughter, scored 3 grandchildren; and, written a few books along the way.

The human condition and people fascinate her, and especially men. They are, in her words, pretty cool creatures.

And she imagines.

Crime Thriller at its Best

Danielle Fine's illustration of Hitchin' really caught my eye and that was long before I knew that I would literally identify with that cover as I turned the pages of this gripping, intense and beautifully layered crime thriller of a book. Alexandra Christle's experiences really reflect in her writing as these past few days I have been living in East St. Louis between the years of 1975 and 1979. Anthony Scarlotti is truly an enigma, a contradiction and oh so memorable. Cassandra Phillips can be compared to the Wonder Woman: The Journalist Edition and she is so authentic and driven. Everett Jackson Hayes is a successful man haunted by his own insecurities and makes him relatable. The bromance between Steve Banik and Bob Myeson provide the much needed humour during the tense, Jesucristo encounters with the Mob. The last few chapters had me on edge and the plot comes around full circle. The bittersweet ending tugged my heart strings like a harp gone rogue but in the heart of heart it was such a satisfying read. I am ready to roll the red carpet to Alexandra Christle and I cannot wait to read more of her work.

I started out by reading the excerpt of Hitchin', and was so intrigued that I bought the book. This story details a hitchhiking reporter, her chance meeting with and confusing attraction to a hunky drug dealer, and the twists and turns she encounters in her desperate search for a "life-changing story." The author provides such detailed scenes that you can visualize them, and such realistic characters that you begin to develop strong feelings about Cassie Phillips and Tony Scarlotti, from anywhere between downright irritation to romantic. I hope to get the opportunity to read another Mike Reyes Thriller. This story is not a heavy read, but oh so enjoyable and entertaining.

Knowing the author enticed me to pick up this book. The cover added to my curiosity. The superb writing kept me enthralled and turning page after page until I finished the book in the wee hours of the morning. Twists in the plot, characters you love and even evil people you root for are just some of the fascinating aspects of this fast moving novel. I'm anxious to see the next adventures involving Cassie and the men who love her.
