Gosh, this was a fun read in what felt like a new genre. I'm not a big fan of paranormal novels (although I enjoyed Ms. Benjamin's Ramos series), but this one is special. We enter the world of "Fairies," but not the usual concept of "fairies." These are the Folk, the people of legend and myth, who have relocated, as clans and immigrants, to America, bringing with them their old-world prejudices, personalities and feuds. The novel contains two pretty graphic sex scenes, but there is a Regency quality about it, especially with the delightful Prince Bertie. I won't go into plot except to say that Grim and all the other characters are well-drawn, complete and react in ways that seem normal rather than contrived. That said, Meg Benjamin knows how to write so there is never anything contrived about her work. Her prose flows, and with this intriguing new "world" she has created, I can hardly wait for more.

I love everything Meg has ever written. Her books are always the perfect escape with heroines you see yourself in and heroes you want to be alone with ;) so I was anxious to jump into her new Folk trilogy. Unlike her usual rom-com stories, the Folk trilogy is an adventure in a whole new culture infused with magic (good and bad), along with the romance and humor I've grown to expect from her. It did take me a couple of chapters to settle in and recognize the different Folk groups and what they represented, but once I had them visualized in my head, I was immersed and rooting for Annie and Grim -- and even Bertie! I am looking forward to the next book which is coming later this summer and I am hoping the magical Leucrota will make another appearance (Meg, you made me cry with the Leucrota's story...thank you for sending Grim to its rescue!). Enjoy!!

I am a fan of Meg's books her Texas series are my favorite. Maybe because I can relate to a small town with normal people. I didn't dislike this book but not sure I liked it. I felt it should have been explained earlier and better. If I wouldn't have discussed it with my older sister it would have taken me longer to figure out what the fey people were. It was a mystery but that didn't play out to the end and I like mysteries.
