- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2023I absolutely LOVE Regine Abel's books. Seriously. This was an enjoyable swift read full of amazing love, evil, breaking of a curse and a happily ever after. Cannot wait to read another. 10 out of 10 for this author!! Oh! And the sex...toe curling (you should know, this is will be under my hubs name. My name is Gillian)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2024Pretty good. Insta love and all of that. The plot was a bit obvious however I still enjoyed it and it hit the spot for what I was craving romance wise. I wouldn’t say it’s Regine’s best work but definitely enjoyable.

Wow! This was an amazing story. I couldn't put it down. It kind of reminded me of a mix between King Arthur and The Little Mermaid. The only bad thing about it was that sometimes the different POV between Erik and Astrid just repeated what had already been told.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2024But I liked it. I think… Somehow it seems the story should have been shorter. Like it took me a lot longer to read this little book than it usually does. I kept putting it down and wandering off. And then when the events picked back up again, I almost didn’t care. I was like, ok, are we doing this thing or not? Regine Able authored the Prime Mating Agency series, and I’m literally obsessed with them. I like them because they are interesting and different. Able knows how to give low-drama, main character focused, weird romance energy. But this story was… I don’t know. It wasn’t low drama. It gave details really slowly, and the character development was pretty slow as well. I absolutely did not like Erik at the start. — Ohh wait. I think I just got that he was supposed to be like Eric from the Little Mermaid. Whatever. But that’s a good point: at some point Bluebeard becomes the Little Mermaid. It’s weird, I’m telling you. But. I wouldn’t say don’t read it. Like, it’s definitely worth reading… it’s just weird af.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2018I enjoyed this version of the tale. I'm not a fan of reading reading reading to unravel the mystery behind the mysterious actions of a primary character - which is my biggest complaint of reading this author's works.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2020A real page turner, this is just good story telling. The staying power of a strong will women, was all that was needed? A fright for love and glory ,case of do or die...the world will always welcome lovers.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2020Early legends / folktales regarding Bluebeard and his wives were quite horrifying. I do love how Ms. Abel has transformed the story to one of a woman’s inner strength and determination driven by love. Astrid is astute, able to discover and discern many things Eric (Bluebeard) has not said. He sought to withhold his growing love for her - if she couldn’t resist the temptation, he’d be alone yet again. The triumph of evil seems imminent. Outstanding storytelling! I was thrilled!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great retelling
I must confess that in the beginning it was kind of overwhelming because of the excessively fast marriage. But it all turned well. The plot is perfect

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 sexy smashing stars
I'm a huge fan of Fantasy, so when I saw this had Romance and Erotica thrown in, there was no way I was passing up the chance to read. It's the kind of book you can get lost in while on the train coming home from work, cooking dinner, and even for those long nights on the couch where you just want to be somewhere else. Regine has done a fab job of taking us into a world of magic, romance, and lust. You can feel the pull between the hero and the heroine throughout, and the resistance when things start to get bad. I love the castle. The description is superb and so real that I felt I was there, especially in the cold weather. I adored the heroine. She started out innocent and nervous, having left home and her entire family, but grew in character throughout the book, and to me, there is no better reason to grow as a person than love.
5 sexy smashing stars (and a thanks to the author for showing me that short stories are just as enjoyable as long stories)

5.0 out of 5 stars ***What an exciting read***
I love this book so much, it deserves all the stars I've given and much more. It's like beauty and the beast but much sadder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!
I love when people take a new spin on traditional fairy tales!
This one is darker, more mysterious, and definitely sexier than any fairy tale you read before. It was easy to sympathize with the two main characters, as the plot is told from both their views. I found myself rooting for the unusual couple as they spiraled deeper into the mysterious curse that lies on Bluebeard.
This novella definitely left me wanting more dark and steamy fairy tales.

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting idea
I thought the idea for the story was generally interesting and exciting, something about this book left very little space to identify with either of the protagonists. Some shorter love stories manage that (one of my favorites: Mad Earl's Bride by Loretta Chase) In this case though at the beginning there were the sexy times but very little warmth, then afterwards drama and warmth but no sexy times. I bought this book because of a recommendation at redhotbooks, but I have to admit their reviews are always hit or miss for me. In this case I cannot understand the high grade that was given. The story just didn't pull me in. I liked neither hero nor heroine all that much.
