"Wade..." she finally whispered, her voice a little ragged from the two Amaretto sours she'd had. "I'm... I don't know what's happening right now. And I don't know if I should fight it or let it happen. And I don't even know if you know what I'm talking about."

"I know." I gripped her hand and scooted closer, dropping the other arm around her shoulder. "I know exactly what you're talking about. And I don't know what's happening either but even if I could fight this, I don't want to."

"I... I just... you know, you--"

"I'm only here for the summer. And I'm some big important famous guy that lives in Brooklyn Heights. And I like orange flavored things. Right?"

"Yeah. But...there's the other thing that's kind of important. And a few days ago, you said you had a hard time trusting women and not knowing their motivation. And that worrying about that is a distraction for you. I don't want to be a distraction."

"Ameenah--"

"And I don't need one, either. I might have made it here but I still have a lot of work to do to call myself a success down here. I have a lot to prove, to myself and to my family. I risked a lot to move here."
"I get that. I'm not trying to be a distraction to you and if I am, I'll step back. But before I do, maybe we could just... have some fun."

"Have some fun?" Her eyebrows rose and her head cocked to the side.

"Not like you think I mean. I'm saying...we get along, we like each other. You impress the hell out of me, and that's saying a lot. I'm not going to be here long term but as long as I am here, I'd really like to spend more time with you."

"And... have some fun." This time, her eyes were narrowed but her lips were bent into a smile. A sultry smile.

"And have some fun. A little beach thing. When the summer's up....so are we. But in the meantime..."

"A beach... thing." Her bottom lip crept between her teeth.

"Hold up," I said, gripping her chin and tipping her head up. "Let me take care of biting that lip for you."

As the daughter of a serviceman, I am formerly from all over the place, however I have lived in the grandest city in the south, Atlanta, since early 2003. I'm a northwestern girl at heart but I think I've finally got this southern thing down... the tea is sweet and the fish come with grits!

Beach Thing starts out with Ameenah Porter moving to Black Diamond Isles to follow her dream of opening a smoothie shop called Tikis & Cream. This is a place that has sentimental memories for her and she feels that she is finally where she belongs.

Wade Marshall is visiting the small town to get his mind off of the things he can't get away from back home.When he literally runs into Ameenah he is taken by her and looks to get to know her. He begins to seek her out regularly to get her to agree to spend just a little time with him. It takes some work on his part, but with his good looks and charm, he finally wears her down and she agrees to see where their budding friendship will go.

I really enjoyed this story as Wade and Ameenah wrestle their way through their feelings while finding their way to each other. This is a quick, enjoyable and light read. Ameenah may be cooling people off with her cold smoothies, but when she and Wade come together, they heat up the pages with some steamy sex scenes.

This was my first read by the author and I enjoyed it tremendously. The novel centers around two mature adults: Ameenah, a business owner on the fictional Black Diamond Isles and Wade, a successful music producer. Each is focused on their respective career pursuits when they have a chance encounter on Black Diamond.

I enjoyed the realistic character interactions in the book. The romantic relationship between Ameenah and Wade was central in the book but the other relationships were very intriguing. The business, family and friend relationships added complexity and tension to the story.

I am glad that I read this selection and look forward to reading more books by D.L. White.

Knowing what you want is an awesome thing. I liked how the author showed how strong both characters were and how they stood up for themselves. I found it charming how much they liked each other and were not afraid to have an honest conversation. I liked the family dynamics on both sides. Good for Wade for putting Gage in check. Very well done.

My only issue with Beach Thing, is I don't know where it took place lol. No, this was a very fun summer read. One that speaks to the very real issue of should I/shouldn't I...especially when you see reality dressed up as real life, on the horizon. DL toes the line of giving just enough backstory for MCs, Wade and Ameenah to introduce the type of angst that can interfere in a romantic pairing, expertly. A fun page turner from beginning to end.

This was such a satisfying read. I thought it was so cute, yet relatable, how they thought could just keep it casual. Their chemistry was great. Wade came off as such a decent, upstanding guy. I wanted to see him find happiness. The evolution of their relationship was really sweet. I found it to be believable which is important to me. I really loved the ending. It was very touching.

This is my second book by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was lighthearted in nature although some of the issues were heavy but not so much so that they were a distraction. I loved the ease at which Ameenah and Wade came together and sustained their romance. The couple had a nice chemistry and were easy to root for--I was happy that Ameenah was able to reconcile with her parents. I thought Wade's issues with his father and the concert sham was a bit far reaching but not enough that it disturbed the love story. I wish that we could have heard more from Gage regarding his final approval/acceptance of Ameenah--outside of the couple's trip. I wasn't too happy with how he rode Wade about her as if it was affecting his work especially when the claim appeared to be unfounded.Again, a very enjoyable and satisfying read!
