I saw a recommendation for this book and got myself a copy. I was thrilled to find a book that kept me keen to finish it just so i could get the next one in the series. I am not one for spoilers but what's going to happen in the next book!!! Honestly it's late so I am torn between starting the next book as I write this review and getting some sleep.
Definitely recommend this book when seeking out a zombie post apoc novel and series. The characters are well written and I'm keen to find out what happens to those who survived.

I wanted to like this book. The setting was good (in the UK as opposed to the US like most apocalyptic fiction) but the narrative was very weak. I couldn’t work out what had happened to some people and others were never named e.g. ‘old woman’ making for very one dimensional characterisation. The reviews made the book appear much better than it was and I am usually a very generous reviewer!

I struggled at the start to build a relationship with any of the characters but that was more about finding this book after finishing a long running series which can be emotionally taxing , but i love the book now and cant wait to start on the second book .Give it a shot , what have you got to lose and you may just find , like me , a new Author to add to your reading repertoire.The characters are human and relatable and the storyline interesting and exciting

I love post apocalyptic books. Zombie books ...all I think about is Shaun of the Dead. But, I am always on the lookout for a good read. I was on a Facebook page where you can talk to the authors of PA. Gareth asked if I liked zombie books...so here I am reviewing his book.

First of all I was pleasantly surprised. I was thinking something similar to Shaun of the Dead. Nope! Not even close. It was entertaining , believable and well written. The only problem I had was his English. He doesn't write American English. It is Great Britain English. Hmmm... I read Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in Middle English, I can conquer "In The End". It was a breeze.

Do I recommend this book? I do. I have already downloaded book 2. Enjoy!!

This is out of my comfort zone; anything zombie and I usually give it a swerve. I don't see how a virus (man made or otherwise) can turn humanbeings into man eating zombies, so was a bit curious with this one, wanting to find a plausible explanation. With a predetermined prejudice I began it and found a cast of first named people caught up in the aftermath of a virus spill ( predictably) little able to differentiate between them and a fast paced chomping and bloody ramapaging by an increasing population of zombies. Surprisingly as it progressed it got interesting! Not just because the author brought his characters to life focusing in on them as real people, the story became interesting both in terms of the cause of the outbreak, the fact of their being two kinds of zombies, the mass of living dead (not just the slow plodding jerking ones you normally get) but another group of swift killing attacking types and much harder to escape, matched up I think with the reference to 'zombie ants'. The introduction of the boy Jack (with his immunity) and a raft of scientists/soldiers trying to get a vaccine cure, took the book to another level. (Reading this during the Coronavirus Pandemic added something to my curiosity I'm sure). As the author developed the characters and gave them individual personalities and human feelings/qualities/weaknesses I became hooked. There were echoes of Mazerunner about the end which isn't a bad thing and I didn't even mind that it is a cliff hanger ending 'to be continued'; although I am intrigued to know why a journalist crew would turn up in a danger zone at the end? Might even read the next one! I would have given it the extra star just for the author's immensely improved prose some of which I found quite brilliant at times. Still don't understand why a virus just doesn't kill people though.....Could this mean Covid-19 will bring the thousand of deceased back to life? We do rather live in a ficticious world at the moment.

I liked the characters and the still unknown source of the zombie outbreak. Sometimes the timeline seemed out of whack, but I really didn't "love" this enough to figure out if it was the story itself or my interpretation of it. I sometimes lost track of which character was which, so that could be strengthened going forward by giving the reader a little bit more to remember them by. I love all the indie authors and what they are able to do without big money behind them. Some of us are still sticklers for typos and I recommend on all these reviews to get strong proofreading betas in your corner.
