Freeing Jasper: A Black Ops Romance (The 707 Freedom Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,698 ratings

He’s a trained killer, but he’s found his one weakness.

The moment Jasper Walker hears Emily Jenkins' sultry voice, it’s like a punch to the gut. An instant and heated reaction that winds its way through his heart and warms his skin. Then he hears the one word capable of breaking that electrifying connection: “son.” That one word rocks his world sideways, triggering his “hell no” reaction—for reasons he keeps imprisoned in the darkest corner of his soul. A secret this highly trained, tier-one assassin conceals behind a reputation for blowing through women a week at a time—no matter how sweetly they beg for more.

After losing her husband on the battlefield, Emily was left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart while raising her son alone. She can see why women with a weakness for high-octane, Special Forces soldiers flock to men like Jasper. It’d be madness to let herself fall for him…but she can’t deny she’s tempted.

When their lives collide, Jasper discovers there’s more to this black-haired beauty than meets the eye. And he finds himself willing to risk everything—even battle against his darkest memories—to save Emily and her child.

The 707 is an elite team of Army Commandos. A special Black Ops team known as the 707 research and development group. They have a two-person chain of command: their Commander and the President.

Meet the men of the 707: Lenox, Jasper, Levi, and Clark. Watch as they show us that sacrifice, commitment, and bravery are not just for the battlefield. Each man must fight to find and protect the women who are theirs.

Each book is a standalone, a look into the life of a Special Forces soldier's life and the code they live and die by.

What a way to start a tale! It is like a shootout at the OK Corral then gets more nerve-wracking from there. Then the action really heated up in all ways. Love it! Freeing Jasper is my first book by Riley Edwards—I need more…like now. There is nothing better than a group of Black Ops, hot alpha men to make my day.

Freeing Jasper is Jasper Walker’s story and the second book in the Black Ops series. Jasper is a fascinating guy. He is a man who is emotionally scarred but learned through his training how to push every emotion out of his head to succeed in his mission. His role for their assignments is that of assassin which he can do without a second thought. His allegiance is to his team and keeping them safe.

Emily Jenkins has the ability to change Jasper if he lets her. Unfortunately, as a widow and single mom, she also has the one thing that Jasper avoids at all costs—a child. Emily has secrets of her own that center around her marriage, her son, and bad decisions made in her past.
Jasper and Emily are the perfect complements to one another. It turns out that they rotate being strong when the other needs someone. Both characters are loyal and inspire loyalty among their friends. The friends are wonderful ancillary characters. It is fun to see how they all meld together in some ways but remain separate too.

Riley Edwards does an excellent job showcasing the life of a special operations team. The kind of men they are and how they must remove personal feelings from the goal of a mission. She also shows how their women and significant others must adjust their life to love these men. Freeing Jasper is a book that I will read again. It works fine as a standalone; however, you will want to know Shane’s story though. Trust me!

Currently, the first book in the series is free with Kindle Unlimited or $1.99. Freeing Jasper is only $.99. You can’t go wrong with either purchase. Now I’m waiting patiently for the next book in the series and checking out Ms. Edwards’ other offerings.

I love Jasper. I loved him in Lily and Lennox's book and I loved his book. Jasper is a sexy playboy with hurt lurking in his soul. A hurt we know about from reading Free but come to know and understand the depth of in his and Emily's book. Emily is a widow and a single mom who puts her son first and doesn't have time for Jasper's fear of children. The push and pull between Emily and jasper and their feelings and fears is emotional, heart-breaking, and beautiful. I love the relationship between the guys and how they stand up for each other while also caring enough to call each other out on their crap. Overall Freeing Jasper is about love, loss, friendship, forgiveness and trust. Once I started it I didn't want to put it down and cannot wait to read more of this series and these strong, sexy, and sweet men and the women who love them. This is an excellent series that will suck you in and take you on a wild ride.

This is a great intro to all things Jasper. His story is quick and complex. Riley introduced him well in Carter's book. Now we know how he met Emily and how he found his peace. Love their story. Love them through the entire series down through Triple Canopy. Jasper makes more sense to me now with his wisdom and advice. Why he is how he is with his kids. Cant wait to see more in Levi and Clark's books. There was one moment that brought full circle an encounter he has with Logan in Tarnished. Sad I read out of order but so glad I went back and started at the beginning. Loved this book

Another hot, suspenseful book filled with hot Military Men by Riley Edwards!

How can one go wrong with a Bad@ss, Alpha Man in the Military? You honestly can’t. Jasper captured my heart in book 1 Free and I was so happy to get the rest of his story in Freeing Jasper. My heart ached for him - just wanted to jump into the book and give him huge hugs (Emily took care of him for me though). He is 100% swoon worthy.

Jasper and Emily’s story is one filled with guilt, hope, denial, faith, love and more. An emotional rollercoaster all around. When Jasper encounters Emily for the first time he has feelings that come to the surface after years of being either ignored or put on the side from a very traumatic experience he went through. He does everything to push Emily away and ignore the attraction between the two. When Emily becomes in danger from her past Jasper steps up and will he become the man she needs????

Freeing Jasper had me from page one and kept me wanting more page after page. There was suspense, angst, and so much more. I absolutely love Riley Edwards and her writing style. I can’t wait for more from her.

If you don’t read any other Riley Edwards book ever (hahahahaha trust me you will!!) then this should be the one you pick up.

Whilst elements of this story do follow on from the first in the series, I honestly think you can read this as a stand-alone and it won’t affect your reading at all - but I promise reading Free first will bring benefits.

So Jasper…is not the book boyfriend, he’s the one you want to bring to life and marry!

The characters in this book /series have such depth and backgrounds that speak to them in the present and make you want to dig in and understand more and more about them. It helps you forgive and move past elements of their behaviour and personalities that you otherwise might find challenging, makes you root for their hea and whilst at times you are happy they are feeling this deep, makes you happy when ultimately forgiveness is delivered.

Jason is such an integral part of this story and Emily is such a wonderful mother, as well as an amazing partner for Jasper. Not willing to settle, she calls him out on his behaviour and whilst knowing her heart might never recover, she pushes for more at the risk of pushing Jasper away.

Just an emotional story throughout I genuinely adore and return to this book time after time

I really enjoyed this book and the way it dealt with a painful subject. The way the author has exposed the secret, talked through it and brought the hero out the other side was a pleasure to read. The inclusion of the past really brought this book to life for me. As always, a great storyline and the interactions between the hero and heroine was dynamic. Keeping the other characters from previous books involved made me hungry for more.

I don't know where to start.... I loved Jasper and Emily's story, but i absolutely adore Jasper!!
Jasper is such an amazing character, so beautifully written. As a member of a Special Ops team, that fly under the radar, the lengths he will go to protect those he cares about, even if it's protecting them from himself, are incredible.
Emily is an amazing woman, with a huge capacity for love and understanding. She truly is worthy of Jasper, if only Jasper will let her in.
A great book written about the the men, who work in the dark, and the women that bring them the light.
