I was engrossed by this book from the first chapter and enjoyed it very much. It is a story of friendship, sisterhood, and the power of family and love. The characters are so real and at times, their choices heartbreaking. I started this before bed and ended up staying up half the night because I couldn't put it down, and hurrying home from work to finish. It stands alone and tells a complete story, but leaves room for a second book to add more to the story. I'm a fan of Bekah Clark's work, but this book is some of her best work yet and I highly recommend.

I love Bekah's books! I've read Healer and the Warrior and the Empress and the Assassin and found the story lines of both well done and believable - once I started reading, just couldn't stop until I finished them.
I was a little annoyed when I reached the cliff hanger ending of Empress and the Assassin, as I had assumed it would be a standalone novel like Healer and the Warrior. However I'm really looking forward to seeing Amalia and Suvann back together and also how Amalia handles life in the spotlight rather than in the background as she's done her whole life.

The Empress and the Assassin is the latest book by Ms Clark. And, just like her other fantasy books, it's amazing. It's not a book you read but a book you live. You can't help but be drawn into the story from the first page on. For me, it was an emotional rollercoaster. I cried a lot and that is something I don't do very often. It shows exceptional talent by the author to bring out a reader's emotions. I can't recommend this book enough. If you enjoy fantasies you got to get this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is quite possibly the best book Ms. Clark has written to date! I was immediately pulled into Amalia and Staesha's world, where the caste system is severe and the majority of people intolerant. The characters were complex and the plot line unique. Knowing the internal struggles of each girl added a depth to the entire story that allows the reader to have a real connection with the girls. This book is a roller coaster for the emotions, so have some tissues handy!
