This book really gives you more of an insight into Nicole's relationship with Damon (I read Damon's story in 2015). It also gets deeper into Nicole's life goals outside the VC Warriors. She is a social worker trying to protect the children from the new world with vampires and demons.

I love love this authors books and this book didn't disappoint!! I missed all of these characters. The banter, the jokes but mostly the love and protection that VC Warrior's share with each other will have you wanting to re-read the series over and over again. Nicole's mate Damon made me fall in love with Teresa's books. To see a different side of both of these characters is every true fans favorite thing. We get to love these characters more and more. So to the next reader who reads this review, I hope it makes you fall deeper in love with these characters and Teresa Gabelmans books. I love that this author gives her readers strong heroines to look up too.

Talk about breathing some life back into this world! Don't get me wrong... I love the guys, but hello ladies!! The inner struggle that Nicole and the other mates deal with feels so relatable. Nice and angsty! I adore Damon in this one, although I really didn't get into his book all that much. The new threat and secondary characters... liking where this is going! However, I would've loved to have more material from Damon's perspective.

I have to say, I really am loathing Jared and mourning the alpha-maleness we normally see with the "Protectors". It makes me so angry to "watch" Jared's character abusing Tessa, especially after knowing what her character has already endured. Mental and emotional abuse is tragic to go through and heart-breaking to watch/read about. Real men don't abuse women or watch their friends abuse women. I'm pretty positive that Jared's character has become irredeemable for me. I found myself hoping while reading the book that Tessa finds a different mate somehow. (Fingers-crossed)

Still... can't wait to read the next in the series! I love The Protectors books and see some real promise with this series for sure. <<TEAM TESSA>>

OMG Teresa did it again, this is a must read. I fell in love with the Protectors Series after reading Damon and just got drawn in more with each VC Warrior's story. The Warriors are Big, Bad, Hotter than Sin, Very lickible umm likable, and overly Protective when it comes to their Mates. These are Strong, Capable, Fiercely Independent women who were doing their own thing long before the Warriors came into their lives. I am glad that Teresa is now taking the series to show the Mates side of the story.
Nicole was a Social Worker who had grown up in the system, loyal to her friends and extremely protective of her kids both human & vampire alike. A twist of fate or attempted assassination put her and Damon together and from there the roller coaster ride begins. Trouble always seems to find Nicole and In the end Damon is forced to turn her or lose her forever. With all the trouble on the horizon, Nicole steps back from the job she loves to keep her charges safe.
Now she is training to be a VC Warrior along with some of the other mates and has decided to go back to work helping the Kids. She finds out that things have changed in the Dept and accidently stumbles into trouble when she is out checking up on a case. Damon wasn't happy to find out that Nicole went back to Social Work and this puts a strain on their relationship. Tired of being kept in the dark by the over protective Warriors Nicole recruits the Mates to help out her severely understaffed job.
I can't wait to read the next book in the Mate series, especially Tessa's story and find out what's going on with Jared and the way he's treating Tessa.

What could be better than an alpha male story! Why a story of their mate, of course! And Teresa Gabelman pulled it off in a big way. Fans of Gabelman’s Protectors series are going to be excited to add this new series to their collection.

In the Protectors, the men were the center characters with their mate thrown in. In this series we will be reading about the women with their men thrown in.

Nicole the first of the Mate series, will take us to her place in life where she needs to feel needed and decides to go back to her former job. And that job begins the harrowing mission to save fostered children that have been targeted by pure evil.

As the story progresses we’ll see that the relationships are not quite the picture perfect matings as the men think. Nicole is battling with her self-worth and even being a VC Warrior trainee, she’s being left out because she is a mate and a woman. Damon and Nicole butt heads through out the story due to his inability to accept Nicole as a capable woman. Sometimes love can blur lines and trying to keep her safe, Damon is essentially putting her on a safety shelf. Nicole wants to be the woman she’s meant to be along with being the mate Damon deserves.
This book is filled with Damon’s bad-ass attitude! Steve is as quirky as ever. And the best of all: Nicole brings out her Female Alpa-tude!
I demand you buy it, cause I know you are going to LOVE it.

An awesome read and great addition to this series!!
I am a bit late for The Mates series. I have read all the protectors up to Bishop and well I told myself I didn't need to read about the mates. Boy was I wrong I mean seriously wrong....haha!!
For me this book has it all.....drama, action, suspense, tears (yes, I'm a cry baby) but also laughter. Of course with darling Steve in there how could we not laugh, the sexy times between Nicole and Damon were...HOT!!
So on to the next adventure, I'm gonna be busy playing catch up but I am so looking forward to it!!

This series follows on from The Protectors, where we are introduced to the VC Warriors, starting with Damon. This follow up series has all the VC Warriors we've come to know and love, but is more written from their partner's point of view, hence "The Mates" series moniker, and of course, we start with Nicole, Damon's mate. I would suggest reading the first series first if you haven't, as many of the in-jokes won't be as funny without the background (Sid and Steve).

On the whole, I really enjoyed this book, it's well written, moves along at a good pace, has a number of plot twists and side bars, opens up a whole new realm of possibilities, deals with a few issues that were left hanging in previous books, and adds depth to their relationship. I really hope that there will be a second book (Tessa's please!) really soon. On a plus point for me, a Kindle reader, this book has been well edited, and each page came out the same size, with the same spacing and there were very few grammatical errors or typos.

Les Protectors du point des vue des "mates" ? Je pensais comme un certain nombre à un redit, mais non, pas du tout, on reprend les couples d'origine pour de nouvelles aventures et ces messieurs n'ont qu'à bien se tenir. Ils ont la force physique mais face à leur moitié ils obéissent même si ça ne se fait pas sans compromis.
"Nicole" donne une nouvelle dynamique à la série, car je dois dire que les derniers volumes avec les sorciers et l'arrivée de nouveaux personnages sans trop de background commun avec les autres, m'avaient laissé un peu sur ma faim.
Il me tarde de lire Tessa (ça risque d'être explosifs), Pam mais surtout Jill et Slade qui forment mon couple préféré pour l'instant.
PS : attention, livre addictif, quand vous le commencez, difficile de vous arrêter.
