This book alternated between a 3.5-4 star read and by the end i was happy with the 4 star rating.
This was my first book by Emily Bex. This was a long book due to multiple views... and as a result was a bit repetitive. But i did really enjoy the storyline so i was happy to overlook this.
Loved Kate and Shades story and how they worked to overcome all obstacles in front of them.
There was heaps of action and we got all the feels.
I'm intrigued to see what happens next... this book did end in a cliffhanger.
Will be picking up the story again in book 2.

Wow this was a long story I loved the characters and their passion, this story is about a vampire king who has waited 500 years to find his mate and when he does it’s in Kate who is a human woman. Their chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥 and so is their passion it’s a very well written story told in many point of views with a fantastic storyline, this is an amazing start to this new series and I can’t wait to read more and I definitely recommend this book.
I read a copy of this book and I voluntarily leave my review.

This is a long book that takes a considerable amount of time to read and one I enjoyed until the end to discover it is one of six books in the series, and I intend to read every one of them. It begins when Slade, a wealthy Vampire Warrior and renowned trainer of vampire warriors, finds the one woman he has been searching for more than five hundred years. She is his mate, and although she resists his advances, Kate eventually gives in, and he makes her his mate. Sometime in the next book, he will turn her so they can have eternity together. Slade travels to the U.S. at the request of a longtime friend and vampire, Alec. He is a day-walk who had lived as a human for many years and is aiming to become the next President of the United States. His Fiancee, Rissa, is a former college roommate of Kate, and it is through her that Slade and Kate meet. Alec and Rissa are perfect for each other. They both crave power and wealth and don't care what they have to do to achieve their aim. Neither of them believes Kate is a suitable wife for Slade and work together in an attempt to split them up. Slade has signed a contract to train Alec's in-effectual soldiers who are employed to rid Washington of a rogue vampire who kills indiscriminately and risk exposing Alec for who he is. Vampires are still a secret society living among humans in this book. Although this book took me a long time to read, I never felt bored with the story. Instead, as each page was turned, I was eager to start the next, so engrossed was I by the story as it unfolded. Kate is a lovely woman who had her heart broken before she met Slade. Wealth and power mean nothing to her, and Slade's retainers respect and admire her for the beautiful and kind person she is. This book is a book that I recommend with pleasure, and I look forward to reading the other five books in the series.

DNF dialogue killed it, main love interest is a creep

There are a few issues in this story.
The first is the night after shade the main love interest meets Kate. Shade gets her address and stalks her, invades the privacy and her dreams.

He starts love bombing her with expensive gifts and wine and they've barley said hello. Then the second phone call Kate is flirting with shade on the phone while shade is watching her from the apartment that was brought to be close to her and musterbating without her knowledge which is so wrong on consent levels.

Then the dialogue is clumsy and not fun. You'd think 500 year old vampire had mastered modern English and that Kate sounds like she's a 100 years old "thank you for calling me," no one in this century thanks someone for calling them. They say things like goodnight, see you later etc.

Currently at 12% read there is no plot and the vampire already figured out that Kate is his mate.

I don't leave bad reviews often but on kindle I expect a certain level of craft and skill even if self published.

This book had flashes of great writing but it just went on and one. Flipping between characters without warning. The most annoying thing was the habit of the woman to call Shade Lover. Over and over again in every paragraph. The drag of the boom is really due to the level of detail on every little thing.

Had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading the first book. I thought it would be a bit of fluff to tide me over while waiting on another series. I WAS WRONG!!!!! These books are additive. I could not get enough. The characters and world are so very real that I could be reading for 5 mins. and be stepping right into that world. I laughed, I cried, both sad and happy tears. I grew angry and anxious and every other emotion you can imagine. Shade and Kate's story is not an easy one. It is not just boy meets girl and fall in love and HEA after a few bumps in the road. It is heartfelt sorrow, happiness, love and fear all the things that make a great story. Shade Medici is a King, warrior, fearless, brave and driven to keep his people safe and his love for Kate is completely real with all the troubles and fears and everything that goes with it. There is betrayal, wars, loss and above all Love. There are tender moments, fighting, misunderstandings and still Love. Step into a world that gives you all the feels and make you never want to step out of it again. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS SERIES A 10+ IF I COULD. DON'T KEEP YOUR VAMPIRE KING WAITING!!!
