Our Military Family Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

Many families miss loved ones when they are away serving in the military. Sometimes the service men and women are away from moms, dads, brothers, and sisters. In this story Dad and the kids, Harmony and Dominic, are home missing mom. Mom is in the United States Army, and during her deployment, she is sometimes gone for up to 12 months. Throughout the book, you experience what the family has to do to cope without mom, all the while missing her. I hope this book is a testament to those families who make many sacrifices at home and abroad so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I loved how Johnson shows that Harmony and Dominic's family is so much more than their dad and mom. Johnson's story is written in language suitable for new readers to read on their own as well. Our Military Family is most highly recommended." - Readers' Favorite, 5-star review!

I love this book! It takes you on a journey of what it is like to have a loved one in the military. The reader learns what it’s like to be on both sides of the situation: the family at home and the service person on duty. I have family members who are currently serving our country so I can relate to this story. This is a great story for not only kids but adults and especially military families. I love the glossary, tips, and resources in the back of the book. When you see a member of the military, Thank them for their service.

A great little book about a mom in the military, what she does and how much her family misses her. May moms have taken on the extra duty of working for the military and they are smart and brave to do so. This mom has a year left and then she will work in her home town for the military and be at home with her children. A great thing for the family.

Our Military Family is the story about the life of a little girl named Harmony & her family. Mommy goes off to serve in the military and they must cope with the challenges of her being in United States Army. This story is heart warming and highlights how a child copes when a family member is in the armed forces and how they are truly missed. It makes us aware of the sacrifice families make for our country. I like that in this story we highlight 'Mom' who is serving in the military. The back of the book includes information on different ways we can support military families. A great read for any child, but even more important for military children. Great illustrations add to the story.

This easy to read children's book is perfect for military families. I can only imagine how difficult it would be for a child to have a parent called to duty. The emotional effect would also be challenging for the other parent to find ways to cope with the separation. In this story, the mother is the one who is deployed. This puts a definite strain on the children to get used to a new normal in the home. The father does his best to step up and even attempts cooking a favorite recipe. The message of resilience is evident in this wonderful children's book.

In this heartfelt story, a little girl named Harmony, narrates her experiences with her mother being in the army. Harmony’s family members, particularly her father really have to step up to the plate, for the well-being of Harmony and her brother, Dominic. This story is very touching and highlights how a child copes with a family member being away in the armed forces and how they are truly missed. It’s also a nice tribute to those who serve our country.

I'm not part of a military family but the book brought it home for me how much those who serve are missed, and what they do to cope. I can imagine it being a great comfort to many children and recommend it.
