A Promised Land Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 181 ratings

Twenty-year-old Meriwether Walker enjoys the challenge of teaching her varied group of students in the one-room schoolhouse. What she doesn't like is the nomadic lifestyle that comes with it as she rotates boarding with families in the community on a month to month basis. Meriwether longs for a home of her own, but since single female teachers have to follow so many rules, she doesn't see any end to her plight--until the letter from the attorney handling her uncle's estate arrives. When Meriwether discovers her uncle left her his ranch, the one she loved to visit when she was a child, she quit her job and moved without hesitation to Trickling Springs, Texas to take over her property. But when she arrives, deed in hand, she discovers her decision has put her at odds with Jake Harrison, the man who rents property from her uncle and seeks to buy the land and water rights for his cattle. They butt heads, tempers flare, but Meriwether stands her ground. Yet she can't deny the romantic sparks that fly, and she can tell it's mutual. When he comes courting, can she trust Jake Harrison, or is his real attraction the property and the water rights he needs, and she has inherited?

This is an outstanding historical story set in 1800,s in Texas. Each story in this series is written by a different author, these are stand alone books. This story is about teachers that lived during the 1800's,
    (Lockets and Lace Book #16).

Meriwether Walker is a young twenty year old woman, teaching in a one room school house and describes her life as a young teacher. There were also some good, clean, romance scenes. The characters were well described with personalities. I enjoyed the fast, easy to read story. I recommend this series to young adults, I saw some of my favorite authors, I'm looking forward to reading more of these books.

Meriweather Walker enjoys being a teacher, but doesn’t like all the restrictions and having to board with the children’s families on a monthly basis. When she inherits her Uncle’s home and ranch, she can’t wait to move to Trickling Springs. She spent her summers at her Uncle’s home and has always loved it.

Jake Harrison owns the adjacent property and is currently leasing her Uncle’s home. He wants to buy her Uncle’s property and the water rights that go with it.

Jake takes Meriweather when she arrives into town immediately to his lawyer’s office so he can purchase the property. Meriweather doesn’t want to sell and Jake is livid. As they both spend more time together, and Meriweather becomes more involved with Jake’s nieces and nephew, they realize there are sparks between them. But is Jake only interested in the property and the water rights and not Meriweather?

Meriweather and Jake were a good fit for each other, once they got to know each other. But can the reasons why he wants to marry her be because he loves her or is it only the property he wants and he figures this is the best way to get it. Meriweather needs to look deep into her heart to realize the truth of Jake’s affection.

I enjoyed this book. It is a Christian sweet romance.

Good story.merriweather was thrust out of her home as a 16 yr old to teach school and living a nomadic life for 4 yrs. she inherits a ranch from her uncle 4 yrs later. It’s a prosperous ranch with good water rights. The neighbor who leases her land falls in love with her but she must learn to trust him that he Truely loves her and not just her ranch And all that entails. I’m sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Meriweather received a huge surprise when she was
good that her uncle left the ranch to her. How happy
that made her. But then she found out that he also
made arrangements with Jake his neighbor to buy
the ranch if Meriweather didn't want it.

What will Meriweather decide to do? Keep it or let
It go to Jake? When they meet Jake and Meriweather
do not like each other. What happened for them to
    completely change their minds?

Oh my, now what will happen when Jake's brother
Luke comes home from going to get their mother to
    move back to the ranch?

What reaction does Meriweather receive from Luke
and his mother when they arrive? Luke's children
    adore Meriweather!

How does her father react towards her when they
meet when Luke's son needs to see her father as
a doctor? Will he welcome her or ignore her?
    Why don't they get along?

I believe you would definitely enjoy reading this
book, so I encourage you and I highly recommend
it to you. It's a wonderful book and the storyline
    is incredible!

I enjoyed reading this book. The story is refreshing and moves along at a good pace.
Jake and Meriwether are likeable and a great couple. They are caring and good Christians. But both are still self confident and assertive. Meriwether stood up to Mrs. Harrison with the right amount of grit and compassion. The story line is unusual and kept me interested from beginning to end.

This was a very sweet historical fiction Christian romance, although very predictable, it was a fun listen. The narrator did a great job and was enjoyable to listen to.

I loved this story. The author leads the reader into understanding how a single young woman would be so intent on living on remote ranch land she has inherited, and how she questions more than once the motives of her next door neighbor. Well-written characters and a good plot for this Christian romance.
