From the Author

In my first novel Rebecca's Hope, I introduced colorful characters and innovative young women in a western town in the late 19th century. Lois's Risk is a continuation of the tale based on Rebecca's friend and dress shop owner, Lois Weaver.
Our story begins several months before Rebecca's wedding, and we focus on Lois whose choices go against the nineteenth-century convention of how a woman should behave. Can she summon the courage to take another risk and tell the man she loves how she feels?
Combining history, humor, and romance with an emphasis on faith, friends, and good clean fun, fans of historical romance set in late 19th-century will enjoy Lois's Risk a delightful tale of courage and reminds us how God uses adversity for our good in ways we may never expect.

Rebecca benefited from a forward-thinking, unorthodox education not typical for a young woman in the late Nineteenth century. As an adult, she is armed with skills that most would covet, yet she lives in a boarding house, works as a waitress and struggles financially. Most single women in the area didn't stay single long. Most, but not her. The one man she had said yes to was dragging his feet. The townspeople all agree she is in need of a husband. Even the young girls in her Sunday School Class have taken action and writing an ad for the paper. Wanted: Husband for Rebecca Mueller. **Must be handsome, nice, like children, and live within walking distance of Carrie Town School.

Emma's Dream - amazon.com/gp/product/B07KVN91SP/
Eighteen-year-old, Emma Brady, loves nothing better than working in the garden, but her cooking skills leave a lot to be desired. While other young women in the late nineteenth century are reading about proper housekeeping, she studies herd improvement. Emma's dream is to implement plans for the ranch's profitability. Unfortunately, things are not running in her favor. Circumstances require Emma to take on the household chores which include taking care of her six-year-old twin cousins. Like a double-edged sword, help arrives in the form of Grandma Tennessee who manages a household with ease but whose colorful stories, old wives tales and superstitions flow like a river.  As I researched pioneer life in the late 19th century, I found that superstitions were widely practiced as immigrants migrated and cultures blended. One of my goals as I wrote was to give an accurate account of the period while exposing the inaccuracy of the quotes and beliefs in a humorous way. Hence the birth of the delightful character, Grandma Tennessee. Emma's Dream is a story of love that's tested by distance and has the perfect combination of history, humor, and romance with an emphasis on faith, friends and good clean fun!

This book truly came alive with narration! I read it last year, but enjoyed it even more as an audiobook! Scott has perfected the art of timing! His pauses in appropriate times and the slower country cadence truly improved this book for me!

    Audible review:
A heartwarming story of of how life can sometimes get off track but in the end, love endures.
Lois Weaver was smart, confident and in love with Daniel Lawrence, the farmer next door. But when his sister loses her husband and her daughter come to live with him, he has to devote his time and energy to take care of them and the farm.
So he tells Lois he has to focus on his responsibilities and releases her from any future.
But Lois decides to open a dress shop, against her father's approval and moves in above it. Soon a banker becomes interested in Lois and spends time with her, but Lois cannot get Daniel off her mind.
With the wonderful writing of Kimberly Grist and the amazing narration of J Scott Bennett, I did not want to miss a word to see what would happen. Would true love win out?
Looking forward to more in this series!

My hope is that Lois and Daniel would find their way back to each other. When things in life come along they either rip your life apart or it brings you closer together. They both realized they were better off together than alone and sad. Happy ending!

I really enjoyed reading Lois and Daniel’s relationship. Lois takes risks to get and keep what she wants despite societal expectations. I recommend reading Lois’s Risk.
