Caryl McAdoo, praying her story gives God glory, loves writing about all Christian genres--historical and contemporary romance, Biblical fiction, mystery, and children, middle-grade, and young adults. In March 2014, after ten years published and nine titles from regional presses, Simon and Schuster debuted Caryl's VOW UNBROKEN, her first historical Christian romance set in 1832 in her new hometown of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in the far Northeast corner of Texas.

Later that year, the prolific author followed with three additional titles independently, LADY LUCK'S A LOSER, contemporary romance, HEARTS STOLEN, book two of her historical Texas Romance Family Saga series set in 1839-1844, an Amazon #1 Best-seller, and A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, volume one of her first Biblical fiction series, The Generations, also an Amazon #1 Best-seller.

In an exciting 2015--with God's help--she independently released eleven new releases! Three for her historical Texas Romance Family Saga, three for The Generations Biblical fiction series, three for the contemporary Red River Romances Romance series (RRRs), a non-fiction book on writing, and book one of a new mid-grade series Days of Dread Trilogy. First of all, I LOVED the Pentecostal elements in this book!! I've been in services where God's presence was so strong I expected to see it! I have seen the Lord perform miracles, one being my own son, who at 9 months old was developmentally slow. Every time we went to the doctor he spent a lot of time measuring his head and being concerned that it was too large for his body. He even sent us to a pediatric neurologist for him to be checked. At 9 mos, he couldn't sit up or crawl, and rarely cried or babbled as babies do. He was very passive. Only really cried if he was hungry. We had an evangelist come to our church for a week and every night there would be a special emphasis. On Thursday night he said there would be a healing line. I stood in line with my baby waiting our turn for him to be anointed with oil and have hands laid on him. A few people in front of me, a child's foot straightened out in the minister's hand during prayer. My baby's feet also turned out, as if he was severely bowlegged, to the extent we wondered if he'd need corrective shoes or braces when he was older. I wasn't sure what I was going to say to say he needed, since the doctor's tests and exams were inconclusive so far. The evangelist approached us and asked what we needed God to heal, and all I mentioned his feet. He asked me if I'd seen what the Lord had done a few minutes earlier with the other child, I nodded, "yes". It was hard to speak as the presence of God was so strong at the altar. The minister started to lay hands on my child and then he stopped, took a step back and tilted his head to one side, as if someone had come up behind him and was speaking in his ear. In just a minute, he stepped up to us and laid hands on my baby and said, "Jesus, heal this baby from the top of his head to the soles of his feet." The presence of God was so strong, it was hard to remain standing. I returned to my seat, a little disappointed that nothing dramatic happened at the moment. However, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the minister's words. . . from the top of his head to the soles of his feet. . .and I realized that covered everything he needed, and then I really began to praise the Lord!! Within a week, my son began to sit up on his own, crawl, and even pull himself up in his bed or wherever he could hold on to something. He also began to babble - continually, and became anything but passive! The next time we went to the doctor, he measured my son's head and said to me, "well his body has finally caught up with his head", as if everything was fine, and he never mentioned anything else about it in the years to come! As the months progressed, I could see that even though my son was obviously better and was progressing ,he was just a little bit behind in his progression, compared to other children his age and based on how his older brother had progressed. I felt guilty even thinking it because God had obviously healed him, but it just kept popping into my head every now and then. About six months later the evangelist returned to our church! I really wanted to tell the minister what God had done, and how my son began to sit up and crawl and chatter and pull himself up, when he hadn't done any of those things before God touched him, and decided I would tell him after the service was over. The evangelist slipped out during the closing prayer and I saw thru the window in the door, that he was in the hall. He got a drink of water from the fountain, and then sat down on the bench in the hall. He'd been walking slowly, obviously spent from the service we'd just had, where God once again moved in mighty way and the preacher had laid hands on many, many people at the altar. I slipped out the door, and rushed to him and called his name, and as fast as I could, told him about my baby's problems and how God had healed him after he'd been prayed for at the earlier meeting. I never mentioned that I worried he was still a little behind. The preacher smiled and praised God. Then he took my hands and closed his eyes and said, "thank you Father -- now complete the healing!!" Again, within days, when I picked him up from the daycare, the worker began to tell me how he was putting together puzzles, and how smart he seemed to be. She'd never mentioned anything like that to me before! Once again, he was changed by God's healing touch! When my son was born, he had severe jaundice. I never thought much about it because lots of babies had jaundice, and after a few days of a bottle instead of the breast, and putting him in the sunlight, it was gone and the bilirubin levels were normal. Several years later, when my son about 4, I read an article in a ladies magazine that high levels of bilirubin, as in infant jaundice, could lead to forms of mental retardation -- mild to severe. God spoke to my heart and said. . . "That's what I healed your son from when he was a baby!!" I share all this because, first of all I'm still GRATEFUL for God's healing of my son who, today, is a minister himself! I also wanted to testify that the stories of the services in Mighty To Save ring true with authenticity! I'm suspicious that the author has attended many services similar to those in her book -- maybe not under a tent, but could be. . . I also felt Ms. McAdoo captured PERFECTLY the JOY that comes from living a Spirit filled life as a believer! I loved meeting these characters, Evelyn, Nathaniel, and Buddy, plus those from the other other narrative, Pearl and Jules, Pretty and Auntie Sweetie Pie, and reading their stories. The reason for 4 stars, and not 5, is only because I felt the transitions between the two tales was often confusing, and could have been clearer. I had to backtrack several times after the narrative had changed and it wasn't evident at first. I also was discouraged at the some of the choices the characters made -- felt cliche sometimes. But, overall I LOVED this book, and will probably pick up others in the series in the future!

This is a well written story of Nathaniel who comes to Christ and called to be an evangelist. His wife has many gifts, including writing stories - One of these is about a former slave and her story. This story is given in parts in between telling of Nathaniel's ministry and their lives with their young son.
I do not usually like movies, TV shows, or books that go back & forth between back then and now - BUT this going back to the life of the former slave is different and, even though very very sad, was also enjoyable to read.
And other back & forth concerning Nathaniel & his family was few & far between - and did not confuse me.
-- Telling of what occurred while he was ministering - was far from 'religious' and made me think of how it could have been at the beginning of the Azusa Awakening Revivals (much more occurred during the Azusa Awakening but still reminded me of that time AND what is already occurring now in the USA and throughout the world. - And NOTHING Religious about healings and Faith teachings.) I will state that I cried when people were saved and when some people were healed - yeah, this is fiction - but these things happen today.
I will state that I did not like the last part - too sad - but did show what happens to so many people - yet God does forgive.

This is a hard one for me to rate.

It had an interesting RELATIONAL storyline (emphasizing the relational aspect for a reason); one I actually quite enjoyed reading, especially the side story of Jules, Pearl, and Pretty.

That being said, the main storyline of Nathaniel and Evelyn is extremely Pentecostal in nature, specifically "holiness preaching" (though there isn't all that much actual preaching in the book, just reference to it being done) and faith-healing. My background is Pentecostal, so I'm familiar with the terminology and beliefs of the characters, but I am now much more conservative in my faith (such as I no longer believe in extra-biblical revelation from God that reveal the future or golden glory clouds intended to be the Spirit of God descending) so this aspect of the book was actually kind of like a grain of sand in my shoe that irritated me.

However, separating the Pentecostal beliefs from the character relationships made this book one that I read quickly to find out what happened. It is for these character relationships that I have given it a positive-leaning rating of 3 stars. Would have loved to give it a higher rating, but just can't due to the my uncomfortableness of the Pentecostal leanings in the book.

This story is very Christian and may not suit every-ones taste. But for those who believe in God's mighty power it is an encouraging read. I found it difficult to sort out exactly what was happening with the various characters at the beginning of the book and was tempted to give up but I am glad that I continued to read it.
