One and Done (Red River Romance Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 43 ratings

God can pull a fish out of water and make that thang smell like a rose. ONE AND DONE is an unlikely love story born of prophesy, nurtured in full view of the probing public eye, and seemingly doomed at its inception.
In this gender-crossing love story with Texas Ranger baseball backdrop and strong pitcher/batter hero, Samantha Danielle, cutest weather girl on Dallas TV, only dreams of sports reporting. Then her station sends her to scoop an interview with a pitcher Rangers’ management is hot after. George Herman Walter Johnson is undeniably a phenomenon on the mound, playing for a Mexican team. His charm and debonair bowls her over, but turns out, he’s such a goody two-shoes, she can’t even get him to first base.
Conflict flies as the wealthy ex-poker player, oldest Ranger rookie ever lays everything on the line in his quest to win her heart. She remains wary of his resistance. Will her bunt snag the man of her dreams...or his homerun drive her home?
ONE AND DONE is an unlikely love story born of prophesy, grown in full view of the probing public eye, and seemingly doomed because of the bride-to-be’s heathen condition. The pitcher follows Christ though, but can his faith that she is God’s woman for him carry them through to their happily ever after.

About the Author

Christian, hybrid (Simon & Schuster & Indie) author Caryl McAdoo is currently writing three series from a perspective of faith: her historical Texas Romances; the contemporary Red River Romances; and The Generations, her Biblical fiction. The novelist loves singing new songs the Lord gives her and painting. In 2008, she and her high-school-sweetheart husband Ron moved from the DFW area-home for fifty-eight years-to the woods of Red River County. Caryl counts four children and fifteen grandsugars life's biggest blessings believing all good things come from above. Praying each story gives God glory, she hopes it also ministers His love, mercy, and grace to its readers. Caryl and Ron live in Clarksville, the county seat, in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State.

Caryl McAdoo, praying her story gives God glory, loves writing about all Christian genres--historical and contemporary romance, Biblical fiction, mystery, and children, middle-grade, and young adults. In March 2014, after ten years published and nine titles from regional presses, Simon and Schuster debuted Caryl's VOW UNBROKEN, her first historical Christian romance set in 1832 in her new hometown of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in the far Northeast corner of Texas.

Later that year, the prolific author followed with three additional titles independently, LADY LUCK'S A LOSER, contemporary romance, HEARTS STOLEN, book two of her historical Texas Romance Family Saga series set in 1839-1844, an Amazon #1 Best-seller, and A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, volume one of her first Biblical fiction series, The Generations, also an Amazon #1 Best-seller.

In an exciting 2015--with God's help--she independently released eleven new releases! I really enjoyed this sweet sports story that reverses the cat and mouse game. GH Johnson, has looks, charm, talent, his pitching is making him a phenomenal sensation. He is not your average guy by any means, a 33-year-old rookie player, a Christian, and a virgin! Best of all, he is humble, loyal, and walks the walk and talks the talk without being judgmental of others. Sammi Dan loves sports, especially baseball, but what is she doing, weather girl, not even a meteorologist, but she gets her lucky break to interview a potential rookie player for the Rangers. Sammi Dan has a bitterness that she will have to overcome. She needs to learn to forgive herself as well as those who have hurt her. The plot kept the pages turning and this reader captivated. It has a cast of delightful characters, lots of sports lingo, a man with great faith, a woman who finds out what faith is all about and an HEA ending. I found the dialog entertaining and the message heartwarming. Nothing is impossible with God.

I'm not sure why I began reading this book since it involved baseball and I am not a fan of sports. But I am glad I did. It had several turns and a few surprises. I suppose I liked the book because it was a clean Romance novel. There were some things that could have been left out; Samantha using vegetables names instead of cuss words. That was distracting for me and added nothing to the story.

I just don't get baseball. Maybe if I understood baseball I might like this. It is okay, and I tried to read it over to see if I was in a bad mood the first time. But I just can't read this. Too much baseball for me. I don't understand the appeal of baseball, so this book was a dud for me. Decently written, interesting premise, but ugh. Baseball.

God has blessed George Herman Walter Johnson with a healing and a chance in the majors. Fulfilling his Pappas's prophecy, he connects with Sammi Dan and the adventure begins. This is a great story of God's faithfulness and salvation. Gij is the ultimate hero, generous and loving. Sammi Dan is a trip with her colorful cussing. Good Gravy, you won't want to put this down!

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down
Reviewed in Canada on October 15, 2015
I absolutely loved this book. Each time I had to put it down to deal with real life I kept thinking about these characters and wondering what was going to happen next. I don't follow baseball so the lingo had me lost at times, but it did add an extra element of excitement to the story. The characters kept my interest the whole way through and I was impressed with the self control and dedication of Gij. I also really liked Sammi, she needed to learn how to forgive herself and those who have hurt her, Gij was a great influence for her and showed her how to forgive both herself and others, but didn't force it on her, he showed her patience as she sought the answers she needed. One part of the book that bothered me that the two main characters were living together (not sharing a room) however one of them did have their own apartment they could have stayed at. I do understand that having them under the same roof gave them many more interactions that added to the story but I was still uncomfortable with it. Otherwise I enjoyed this story with its dialogue, snappy comebacks, and there were any times I laughed out loud. This was the first book I have ever read by Caryl and will definitely will more by her in the future.
