Jamie is an engineer who keeps humor close to her heart and people at arm's length. Kelsey is a dental assistant who deals with everything from the hilarious to the disgusting on a daily basis. What happens when a driving app brings them together as friends? The nerd car and the rainbow car both know a thing or two about hazard avoidance. When a flat tire brings them together in person, Jamie immediately realizes that Kelsey isn't just another woman on her radar. Both of them have struggled to break free from stereotypes while they navigate the road of life. As their friendship deepens they realize that sometimes you have to break the rules to get where you need to go.

I found this diamond on my TBR shelves! I fell in love with both Jamie and Kelsey. The soft butch and the sexy femme who can change a tire!
This is the first book by this author I've read, and it won't be the last. Both MCs had bad experiences with a long term relatonship. So they both have trust issues, and Jamie has to stop her playgirl life. They become friends first in a strange way, with an interactive driving app. Such a wonderful concept! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! 5 stars!

Another amazing book by K. Aten! This book had me hooked right from the start - from Jamie's "Rules of the Road" to the encounters between the "rainbow car" and "nerd car" driver's flirting and banter. It was nice to see both Kelsey and Jamie form a strong friendship and love for each other while gradually breaking down their protective walls. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading or to anyone who is looking for a book to get them back into the reading spirit. Next book on my list to read, ""Running from Forever" by K. Aten.

This is a really good romantic comedy. I’m a fan of Aten’s. I have read her two published works and a few of her unpublished stories. There is not a single one I have not enjoyed. What I’m really impressed about is the wide range of categories she writes in. Her first published book, The Fletcher, was an awesome fantasy book. This book, Rules of the Road, is so totally different but it absolutely worked anyway. I have a good feeling rom-com fans are going to enjoy this one.

The two mains in this story are Jamie and Kelsey. They meet by accident while using a driving app to get through the awful traffic to and from work. I must admit I thought the driving app idea was really cleaver. It was a way for these two characters to slowly connect that has never been done in lesfic before. Jamie’s character is a player not looking for a relationship, while Kelsey is the opposite. We have seen this set-up before, but the app idea made everything seem fresh instead of oh this has been done before.

I do have to admit, it took me a few chapters to really connect with the story. I think it was more of a personal issue; I just have a history of trouble with comedies. They can be so up and down for me. As the book progressed I got used to the comedic flow and started to really enjoy myself. This book has a good mix of zany, crazy comedy, but also had that really witty great dialog comedy that I prefer. I think because it had a mixture of both, it will appeal to just about any rom-com fans.

Besides the comedy, the romance really worked too. I loved that is was really a best friends to lovers story even though there was chemistry from the beginning. This couple needed time to really evolve. Insta love would not have been believable here. I was also impressed that the sex scenes where well written. These two characters had a ton of chemistry and it definitely showed.

I was also happy to see while there was some conflict, the angst was minimal. There was plenty of time to actually enjoy these characters together with no rushed ending. There was enough that these characters had to overcome on their own that this book didn’t need any forced angst. This book is definitely in the category of a feel good story.

If you are a rom-com fan and are looking for a feel good story, give this book a shot. It was a fun read that I think others are going to enjoy. I cannot wait to see what Aten puts out next.

An ARC was given to me for a honest review.

Loved it. This is a pretty unique way of meeting someone. Commutes suck, and a common navigating app brings James and Kels into each others orbits. The com portion of the rom com is really good. There's some really funny cringe worthy moments.

Jamie's an engineer in a workforce of neanderthals lol. And Kelsey works in a dental office where the gas does some pretty nutty things to their patients. heh. It's got some pretty funny moments but at the core it's still a romance. That arc isn't always free and clear of road hazards, but... You know how that goes :)

Her last official release was The Fletcher, which is a stark contrast to this one, but no less brilliant. I think it shows really good artistic reach. Anyway, I'm probably biased, but I loved this.

    K. Aten is becoming one of my favortie authors. The first book I read from her, The Fletcher (amazing by the way and personally a favorite), was amazing and this one is just as good. I loved how the story was technically a slow burn and didn't end right when the characters get together. There is just enough angst, drama, and comic relief. Looking forward to the next one!

Sometimes when a character is a player, I feel a disconnect to them putting their player mentality away to settle down- this book didn’t have the issue. I actually loved the way the story unfolded with becoming friends first, a few parts where I wished there was a bit more communication but didn’t find it frustratingly lacking like some books I read. It had a good balance of quirky, humor and interesting plot.

I only managed to get a third of the way through this one. The main characters meet via an app while traveling to and from work, which sounds like an interesting way to meet someone. Except the author keeps the communication there for longer than the first third of the book. I was bored. It felt like an overly long commute with two people who were playing games, one whom was never going to change.

So I ditched it. Reading other reviews, I gather that others have liked it. I was just bored of the communication between the two main characters being via an app, on the road.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good read.

First of all I love James, mostly because I was able to identify with the character. Now the book. It tackled some of the stereotypes we have to deal with being gay and that grounded it solidly to my reality. This story couldn't have been written better. I love the writing style, being a fast reader I had to slow down a bit because I felt like I need to read every detail the author give, like I will miss something vital if I skim through a paragraph. The character built felt very realistic you feel the shifts and find yourself supporting and cheering the changes. Like in everything else I love the sense of humour played throughout the book.
There are moments when she got technical and it went over my head, but I learned something new, so cheers to that.
    Love the book.
