Briggs (GDB Security Book 2) Kindle Edition
The past is a cruel master; it’ll rule you – or kill you.
At the influential age of sixteen, Irish American Declan Briggs was sent away from his home to Ireland, or the Emerald Isle, to ‘stay out of trouble’ with long distance relatives. However, nothing is greener on this side of the sea; a two-sided conflict tears the country apart. Communities are severed, families taken and torn apart. The rising tensions drag Declan into a dark unit where orders are given and expected to be carried out through a black balaclava. Very soon, Declan finds himself in over his head – and it follows him back as he flees back to America.
Young blood can stir up many enemies.
In the present day, Declan has reformed himself; co-owning his own security company with two trusted friends. There isn’t anything he isn’t armed to handle – until a country singer, Rhonda Glee, crash lands into his life as his latest client. She’s a beauty – and hellbent on making his job ten times harder than it has to be, challenging him at every end.
Declan isn’t the only one with a tainted past – bearing blood and bruises. Randi has a habit of running, but can Declan be honest about the ghost of his past – or risk their partnership slipping through his fingers?
The past has a firm grip – it’ll not let go without a fight.

Protection turns into love!

Love journey of Declan (Briggs)and Randi Randi is a African-American woman that sings country music.... it doesn’t matter that she’s beautiful that she’s very talented all people see is her skin color. however she bigger worries than that. Randi's physically abusive ex husband wants her back in his life and he will do anything to make that happen! So Randi's Manager and good friend hires a security company called GDB security to protect her from her ex-husband and that’s where she meets sexy and fine Alpha but troubled Declan Briggs. I love this author no matter what she writes ...I’m going to read it. Five hot protection stars!!!

So disappointing

I had high hopes after the first book and discovering Briggs then. This book was very repetitive and the heroine was so weak it got on my nerves. I understand that she was abused however for her to leave her bodyguard without a word was just plain stupid. Aside from their feelings it is his job to protect her so.. Then after he saved her life, she had the gall to leave him in the hospital without a word, just because he was too slow. Ever heard of a conversation? The scene in Texas was beyond ridiculous. He came all that way, said the right thing and instead of jumping on it she stays silent. Worse she doesn’t bother calling him to find out why he left nor does she go find him. Her insecurities with her parents and sisters also annoyed me. Wanting to pay and beg people to be in your life, even if they are family? From a professional standpoint I’m fed up with books where the heroine has to put her dreams on hold to get married and have babies. She wanted to be an entertainer so first of all as they are bodyguards why did she have to hide instead of doing her job and going to gigs? And now that she has money she can produce her own album and put her music out there. So why does she have to scale back and become a teacher? How is a degree going to help her become a singer?
Too bad this book was a miss.

This book 2 in the series, had the same amount of "sexy times " as the first book but this one had a lot more suspense. The lead heroine was getting hit from all sides by negativity and hate. She may not have been strong physically, but she was damn sure strong emotionally and mentally. You go girl. Lol

Declan and Randi characters could’ve been written as a bit more colourful!

I’m a huge TLB fan, have been since 2011, my 1st read by her ‘Law & Disorder’.
The GDB series is romance w/ suspense and action... GIO was a great start to the four men and their love lives.
Quite frankly, Randi and Declan’s romance threw me off kilter. Once I cared about them as MC, the common dull plotline to runaway and/or being blackmailed into slinking and cowering off to save a love interest, was thrown at me. I can’t express how much I hate these ridiculous, unrealistic storylines.
Randi is a meek, lackluster heroine, maybe she’ll come to life when she cameos in the next book. Declan wasn’t that much stronger of a hero neither, he fizzled..... What sealed this uninspired lukewarm couple’s story, as unmemorable with me, Randi proposed marriage to Declan, wtf!
Blk authors, please refrain from normalising and contributing to this very distasteful notion, (that’s already being pushed in the BC) that BW should ask men to marry them smh. That moment alone ruined the book for me.
I may complete the series because I remain a fan of the author, but please don’t have another BW/bg begging a man to get married, it’s not cute. Only desperate women commit that cardinal sin lol.
This review is as monotonous as Declan and Randi; and that’s all I have.
