I'm a bit embarrassed to admit, this is the first book I've read by KL Shandwick. Now that I know what I'm missing, I want to delve into her backlist and read every word. Another Life is a beautifully constructed story of Cole Harkin trying to rebuild his life when fate deals him the best thing in his life and the cruelest blow at the same time.
The singing heartthrob had totally altered his life when he was blindsided by love. He and Grace had planned out their future until fate reared its ugly head and Cole is faced with a life he found hard to deal with. Without even noticing, fate mapped yet another road for the man and those he considers family. He's carefully orchestrated his new existence around his daughter, Layla, but can he follow his heart or will his overthinking head keep him from moving forward? Can he lay his past life to rest and grab onto the new life he is offered?
Ms. Shandwick's writing pulls the reader into Cole's world and his total devastation at the loss of his carefully planned life. His loss is profound and his coping mechanism is alcohol. The author touches on some very intense subjects: loss of a loved one, grief, alcohol abuse, balancing work and family, and moving on after a tragedy. The way the author delves into Cole's pain and shares it with the reader will bring tears to the most hard-hearted reader. The book is well-paced and the characters so realistic you want to crawl into the book and shake some sense into Cole and his friends and family. While Cole is the main character, his daughter, Layla steals the scenes she is in and gives the reader a small reprieve from the heartache. From a true rock star to a rock star dad, Cole is the whole package and his journey is a rewarding read for those who love character driven books and a well-deserved HEA.

This story is told in first person POV by the MMC. This story follows him through his grief and darkest days until he finally comes out of the darkness. You get to see and experience so many different emotions with this.

I loved how the story started, I got to see the Cole before the unthinkable happened. Then my heart broke for him until it flashed to the years later. I have never lost what he did, there is no time limit for grief. Although, once he made a move on Harper, I feel like he was using his grief an an excuse of sorts to be so wishy-washy, rude and get away with his bad behavior towards Harper. I think I would have been more for him if he would’ve went into therapy. In the beginning I wasn’t a fan of Harper and how she talked to Cole. I wasn’t a fan of how after Cole made the first move and apologized to her, she pretty much pushed herself on him and then acted so immature. Although, by the end, she redeemed herself and I was a fan of hers when she showed her backbone and didn’t play into Cole’s pity party ways.

I absolutely loved Layla. Her little kid snarky attitude, innocence and bluntness made her steal the scenes when she was around. This is the first time reading a book by this author, and I do plan to read more of her work.

Cole and his wife Grace are getting ready for the birth of their daughter. All the testing and all the prenatal appointments showed everything was fine, but when it came time for the delivery Grace had to have a c section. Then we find out what's wrong with grace... And Cole is forced to live Another Life from the one he and his wife planned after she passes away. And has to navigate fatherhood as a single dad who is a rockstar.
This was a beautiful story.... Showing the ranging emotions of grief. The guilt you feel if you start thinking less about your loved one or if you start to feel attraction for another. The guilt of actually loving again. The trueness that grief isn't one size fits all. There is no set time frame or set rules on grief. This is told exclusively from coles pov.
Great read and I listened to the audio book too.

I was absolutely blown away by Another Life by K. L. Shandwick. I had to read the book in installments because my poor heart could barely handle all the emotions I experienced with her mesmerizing storyline and rich characters. I laughed out loud, openly wept, gnashed my teeth and sighed heavily while ready, and I will do it all again as I fully intend to buy this book for my collection after having purchased it originally through Kindle Unlimited. Cole Hawkins is a lead singer for a rock band. He had insta-love for his wife Grace and within two years she was ready to deliver their first child when they receive devastating news. What becomes of Cole’s life after that news is the basis for this well written, emotional read. I wish I could award it higher than 5 Stars because I believe it is the best romance novel I have read in a very long time. It won’t be the last that I read by K. L. Sandwick.

It was a little hard to stick with it because the pace seemed to be a little slow in the middle and it seems excessive for him to be in that long of mourning 6 yrs and with the abuse he did to his body he would have incurred some bodily repercussions. The characters were lovely and the story is tragic but the recovery was a wonderful story.

Wow thats all my brain can say is wow. This book slayed me it moved me in ways in which i cant describe. Whilst reading the start of this book it felt like someone had punched a hole in my chest and squeezed my lungs. I cried (you will need tissues trust me)it is a horrible situation but written so beautifully. It literally took my breath away and it slowly released as the story went on. You become part of the story it feels so real it really is astounding the way the writing makes you emotionally become part of the story. As the hero deals with grief and the journey he takes to go from broken to whole. Its a long arduous journey but you are there every step along with him. The pairings in this story with the main characters and even the side characters is poetry in motion. You feel engaged and part of it from start to end you cant put it down it swallows you whole. I read this in one sitting i didnt eat didnt move i couldnt and didnt want too. It speaks volumes for the skill of this amazing author that i cried for one i hardly ever do, i laughed, I got frustrated and my heart literally felt like it had been broken repaired and then grew thee sizes. You need to read this book it tells the tale of loss, love and handles the mental emotions of one special family. The writing is done with such skill as i already said before in an amazing way. for it to make my heart feel all fuzzy and like i have overcome something myself that takes a special person. I have given no spoilers because you need to experience it as it is going in blind so you feel it the way it was intended to be read. One click now because whether your a new reader or returning fan you wont be disappointed.

I voluntarily read and this is my honest opinion so good i bought it .

I've read all of K L Shandwick's books and I think this one is her absolute best! Three chapters in I had tears running down my face. The story of rockstar Cole, losing his wife Grace to cancer, days after his daughter Layla is born, was a tragedy. I felt every emotion he went through, as he struggled through his grief stricken life, trying to come to terms with her death, while raising a baby girl on his own, with the help of her nanny, Harper.
The story is sensitively and beautifully written and one that will stay with me for a very long time. Five stars doesn't do it justice, I can't praise this book highly enough, it's just that good!

This was my first time reading this author and it won’t be my last. I love how I was taken into the main character’s mind. Through her words,!I felt what he was feeling. When he cried, I cried. When he laughed, so did I. Wonderful, wonderful story!
