Samantha - All she ever wanted was to be loved; her father left her mother and Samantha when she was a small child. Samantha never understood why he left, but she was consumed with guilt. Somehow, some way, Samantha just KNEW it was her fault.

When her mother re-married, Samantha was thrilled to have a new father (Dylan) and a new brother to love named Grady. But Grady was a predator; he took her innocence at 9. At 13 Samantha's pregnant, and her life is forever altered. Grady is sent away, but not before twisting the knife yet again. "We were each other's first, you will ALWAYS be mine." Samantha spends the next five years looking over her shoulder, trying to avoid Grady.

You're my air; I can't survive without you. - Oliver

Oliver- Samantha's protector and friend, he's loved Samantha since the day he met her, but there are some things he can't protect her from. However, as much as Oliver loves Samantha, he carries his own dark secrets.

“I can't come back to something or someone that can't trust me with the truth.... the truth of my life “- Samantha

But the secrets that Oliver has been hiding bubble to the surface, and Samantha is kidnapped. Traumatized and beaten, Samantha holds tightly to the thought of Oliver; Oliver: her friend, her love, her life.

As Samantha struggles to recover from the traumatic events she had just undergone, evil again surges in the shadows. Tendrils of malevolence and a miasma of deeply buried but not forgotten guilt surrounds her, as danger slithers ever closer.

Hauntingly, achingly, painfully beautiful. A riveting tale that grabs your attention from the first sentence and keeps building and building until the shattering conclusion. A dark tale, not for the faint of heart. Contains triggers.

This book is a good read if you enjoy vigilante style stories mixed with romance. The detail provided makes law and order look tame.

This is the first book I've read by SM Stryker and I really enjoyed it. There were a few things that were a bit unrealistic that kept me from giving the book 5 stars but overall it was a good story.

Raw & Gritty. This isn't your ordinary love story. Sam learned early life wasn't fair. Her life was a lie.

Sam was off limits, Oliver knew he couldn't have her, but he can't live without her either.

When Samantha's mother re-marries, and she acquires an older brother that takes advantage of her innocence. She learns that there is more to family than words and actions.

Oliver used to be a carefree boy until a horrifying incident takes his family away. He has learned one important lesson at his young age, 'Protect those you care about'.

When he sees a scared little Samantha, Oliver’s heart was drawn to her, to help and protect her. Even though he’s several years older, he made that promise to himself to watch over her, and she never knew he was always there. He was her Protector.

But he was keeping a secret from her.

When Oliver’s identity is revealed, Samantha, feeling betrayed, and deceived goes into hiding, running away from the man she has loved most of her life.

Oliver has to find Samantha before her past catches up with her.

Will she be able to survive or will her past take her away forever, leaving Oliver, a shell of a man?

Wow! What a read. Be prepared as there are many twists and turns in this book! Oliver & Sam's story was beautifully written. Although their relationship wasn't an easy journey is was well worth all they went through! Highly recommend!

Sam has had a difficult life. She's had to contend with her overbearing stepbrother and the secrets he forced on her ever since she was nine years old. Deep inside, she's hated the life she's lived, yet she's learned to make do. Her shining star has always come in the form of the beautiful Oliver, a man who's been there for her through thick and thin. Little does she know, he's the one who'll do anything to make sure she's always safe and sound.

The Sins Of A Child is the first book I've read penned by the lovely S. M. I am hooked on her wonderful style of storytelling. Once you dive into the story, it's hard to put the book down. Trust me when I say so!

This book is full of difficult topics, many of which people can relate to. S. M. has created such complex characters that are determined to survive, no matter the cost. Characters that get under your skin and stay there.

The lives of these characters are steeped in secrets. Some they've tried to keep buried. As we all know, however, secrets never remain in the dark for long. This book might not be for everyone, but it's definitely one that's worth reading if you've the time to devote to such a bittersweet and heart-wrenching story.
