The Timid Traitor (A Nick Williams Mystery Book 10) Kindle Edition
Tuesday, January 11, 1955
It's a cold January morning. As Nick and Carter sip their hot coffee in an attempt to stay warm, passers-by are stopping to gawk at San Francisco's newest skyscraper at 600 Market Street. The grand opening goes off without a hitch (and without the Mayor or anyone else of note, for that matter).
Meanwhile, back on Bush Street, Nick has a new client. Her name is Mrs. Anne-Marie Boudier. She's charming. She's chic. She was at Marnie's wedding on the groom's side. And she wants Nick to find her long lost husband.
So she can kill him.
And so begins a twisting and turning escapade of old secrets and new betrayals that will eventually take Nick and Carter across the Atlantic Ocean as they finally discover who the real traitor is.

About the author

Frank W. Butterfield, not an assumed name, loves old movies, wise-cracking smart guys with hearts of gold, and writing for fun.
Although he worships San Francisco, he lives at the beach on another coast.
Born on a windy day in November of 1966, he was elected President of his high school Spanish Club in the spring of 1983.
After moving across these United States like a rapid-fire pinball, he currently makes his home in a hurricane-proof motel with superior water pressure that was built in 1947.
While he hasn't met any dolphins personally, that invitation is always open.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2017Sorry folks, this is not a book you want to take on a *long* vacation, not unless you also bring a few more of Frank's books with you. This is another of my favorites in the series, but one that goes fast. Not soon after you start it, you'll find it hard to put down. And just when one curiosity is satisfied, another is piqued. If you read it by a pool, wear sunscreen cause you’re not going to remember to roll over in time!
Since new characters are continually folding into the fabric, there's always one or two that Frank develops further. This time, we get a much better look at Sam. If you're paying attention, you'll notice many others being described in more detail (for our understanding) while they evolve (likely due to having Carter and Nick in their lives). Do enjoy this; it’s fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2017A good addition to the series. I enjoy the well written story line and character development of each of the books. There is intrigue and tension, romance and discovery and a happy resolution. Would that such events might have really happened in the fifties.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2019This series has to be one of my fave series. I swoon and lust over Nick and Carter. I can just hear Carter’s southern drawl as he pours on honey laden charm. Makes my tummy do all sorts of somersaults. And Nick? He is so good. So filled with kindness and love. Just put me in the middle of a Nick and Carter sandwich. Yummmmm....
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2017This is one of the top three or four book series that I really enjoy reading and look forward to. I especially got a kick out of the introduction of Roz Russell and Gale Storm (Mr. Butterfield really surprised me with that bit of fun) in the previous book. I love these characters; they seem very real and I enjoy the time setting as well. It brings back personal memories of the first time I visited San Francisco in 1958.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2022Rogue agents, a turncoat, lovers, and a gymnasium. Rescuing a damsel in distress. Gifts from abroad. Inherited wealth. Happily ever after?
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2019I am enjoying every adventure that Nick and Carter encounter. You get to know the characters and their contribution to this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2018Not often I find myself smiling when reading a book. Only the good ones! Thank goodness there's many more to read and enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2017Tried my best to read this one slowly as it is the last in the series. I hope that will change soon there are a lot more stories to tell. Get busy Frank

5.0 out of 5 stars Coming up on 65 years ago...
... and the world was a very different place. 18 months since a new Queen was crowned in Britain and the physical scars from the war are still tender - and many European cities are still pocked with bomb sites (and that wasn't to change very quickly). Fall-out from the war is what prompts this volume of the Mysteries.
Nick's new office building is about to open - but events cause him to travel, initially to Mexico (where we revisit Ensenada (briefly) and then in quick succession Mexico City and Nassau, Spain and Paris - flying on The Laconic Lumberjack. There are the usual complications (courtesy the FBI) and Nick manages, also as usual, to recruit some new staff...
The wartime memories are a salutory reminder of relatively recent history and root what might otherwise be regarded as wish-fulfillment fantasy in reality. A hard-punching volume in this ongoing series.
