Linda LaRoque is a Texas girl, but the first time she got on a horse, it tossed her in the road dislocating her right shoulder. Forty years passed before she got on another, but it was older, slower, and she was wiser. Plus, her students looked on and it was important to save face.

A retired teacher, Linda loves West Texas and the American Midwest, its flora and fauna, and its people. Her stories paint pictures of life, love, and learning set against the raw landscape of ranches and rural communities in Texas. Linda is a member of RWA, her local chapter of HOTRWA, NTRWA and Texas Mountain Trail Writers.

Today she lives in a small community outside of Waco, TX with her husband and dog Molly. They have two grown children and a grandson. I rated this novel 5 stars as I loved it. I downloaded it to my kindle and started reading it right off. It held my attention so well that 4 hours later, I had to force myself to go to bed. I finished it the next day. It holds your attention and never lets go. It is a real page turner. I was sorry that the dog didn't survive. That was the only downside of the story. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery with a little romance thrown in to spice it up. Hope to read more from this author.

This novel has the components I love. It begins with an unexpected twist and never lets up with the action and emotion. But what got me hooked was the Southwestern setting, Native American folklore, old Route 66 and especially a damaged but courageous heroine and a ruggedly handsome hero with a sad secret. Then throw in a crazed villain who must be stopped. An intriguing and entertaining read.

So, this book is not your average boring romance. There are some familiar plot elements in this book, particularly at the beginning, but it is the twists the author adds later on in the story that make it a worthwhile read. The characters are pretty likable and it was easy to relate to the main character on the level that although she has had it rough, she is actively trying to start her life anew.

The plot is pretty interesting as the story proceeds and although there re some scenes that are not quite believable, it makes the story more fun than the average woman-fleeing-the-bad-marriage thing we have all seen repeated so many times in the past. The romance in this book is riddles with tension and suspense and i thought it was nice to see a romance develop somewhat naturally instead of it feeling so pushed. I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to others.

A Stolen Chance has just the right blend of danger, romance, and well-researched regional history with a dash of paranormal thrown in for fun. An enjoyable read! I gave this title four stars only because my Kindle version had a number of editing issues that were, for me, a distraction, but this is in no way a reflection on the author. LaRoque's vivid descriptions and snappy dialogue kept me flipping those pages!
