Pssst! Let me tell you a secret. This book is a story about romance. The very best kind, with unrequited feelings, longing looks, and a happy, if unexpected ending. But it is also a series of mysterious events, with intriguing dancing lights in the sky, and dark and vaguely menacing men. This was just the thing to draw me out of a funk, and make me wonder about the mysteries around me. Fun read!!

Great book for an Afternoon

I enjoyed this story very much except for the using of Ms. For heavens' sake people that title did not appear until about the 80s when women were trying to get Respect in this World and did not feel it mattered if they were married or not. What is up with the writers lately? Miss is the title that would have been used in that time period. Anyway, this was a wonderful story with a little SY, romance, heartbreak and few surprises thrown in. It takes place during WWII when rationing was going on and ladies had to paint lines up the back of their legs to mime stockings. What a hoot!. Take this book out for a read, you will be glad you did.

The marvelous Bambi Harris delights us again with Mysterious Encounters of a 40s Phone Operator. This time she transports the reader to the life of Violet Verne, a telephone operator swept up in sci-fi intrigue after seeing flashing lights in the sky, receiving mysterious calls in the night, and meeting a dashing stranger named Griffin. A departure from the Afterlife series, Ms. Harris brings us to the more intimate setting of 1944 Homestead Hills, a sleepy town dealing with the domestic front of World War II.
As always, the major strength in Ms. Harris' writing is the protagonist, Violet Verne, a whip smart woman thrown into a fantastic situation. Violet is both feminine and strong, just like Penny Lane. However, in this undertaking, Ms. Harris has a much more realistic setting and a deliberate pace that, in other hands, would make this character a bit out of place. The author manages, quite masterfully, to describe just enough vulnerability and rebellious spirit in Violet to convey an authenticity to the time period.
And, despite the deliberate pace, there is enough action, romance, and mystery to keep the reader enthralled. A few highlights are the intimate conversation between Violet and Griffin at Violet's home, a chase involving devious strangers, and a flight in an otherworldly vehicle.
For any fan of the Afterlife series, and for anyone that prefers there novels intimately epic, this is a must read.

I absolutely loved this book from Bambi Harris! A fun, imaginative story expertly crafted with a fabulous vintage historical feel. Violet is a very likeable character, and her adventure kept me glued to every page. The story flows well, and Ms Harris makes the unbelievable, absolutely believable! A wonderful story that left me wanting more!
