A supernatural tale of love, secrets, deception and betrayal
Minerva Walsh forgot everything about her life before her eighteenth birthday. Since then, betrayal, hardship and strife plagued her life over the last five years, and good fortune was never on her side. However, when Minerva receives a full-paid scholarship to the most prestigious school in the country, Calendula University, and is given a chance to restart her miserable life, she feels her luck has changed.
But after arriving, the dark shadows and deadly secrets looming underneath the serene façade of this academic paradise shows Minerva that her new life is far from the peaceful escape she thought it would be. She learns about the curse haunting the university and claiming innocents’ lives in unusual accidents. Minerva also gains a strange power which lets her control the heartbeats of time and space and enter a world outside of reality. To solve the mystery behind Calendula’s curse, Minerva must use her new powers to investigate the secrets surrounding this elite school before the curse claims the lives of those close to her. But as she draws near the truth, pieces of her missing past come to light.
Can Minerva unravel the mystery behind her forgotten memories and the school’s curse? Or will she become its next victim?

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
As a first time reader of this author I enjoyed this unique story set in a college atmosphere and a society of hierarchy. Minerva seeks to unlock the mysteries of her past - she does not have any memory of anything that happened before she was eighteen.
One particular thing that frustrated me was when the points of view would change from Minerva to someone else - paragraph to paragraph. I had to re-read paragraphs at times because of this. I would have simply started a new chapter to differentiate the change of view. I would also suggest the author re-edit and finish thoughts as there were sentences that missed a word or two in more than just a few places. I would have given a five star if it weren't for these minor things. Don't let these things deter you from reading this story. I will be waiting for the next installment to this interesting series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2019An interesting concept. I really enjoyed the different supernatural elements to the story and it’s uniqueness unfortunately for me I just couldn’t get into it at all. It was slow paced for me and it was hard to really get into the characters and really cared what happened to them.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020I enjoyed this book. The story was interesting, as was the mystery element. I recognize this is the first in a series, but this part did not seem as complete as I had hoped. It is worth reading, but some parts were not as developed as I wanted and the parts left incomplete don't seem enough for a whole nother book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2023Interesting concept but not for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2020Some critiques that I have is that while there are some grammatical errors in the book, I do not think it effected the flow of reading too much. The story is however, heavily reliant on dialogue which was a bit bothersome. I found that this effected the flow of reading slightly. I enjoyed the main parts of the story and how the author articulated the storyline in paragraphs, so I wish there would have been less dialogue and more explanation through characters actions.
Overall I really enjoyed the concept of this book and I found that the storyline kept me engaged. It was like reading a book that you might find on screen like on the CW channel. I am happy that there will be another book because I am intrigued to find out more about the characters, especially Minerva.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019As a first time reader of this author I truly enjoyed the free book provided by the author and Voracious Readers. As a lover of fantasy novels this one had an element of current/other world allure. I look forward too reading the adventure of Min and the Drakes in the second installment. Also, what will Laura bring to the table? And, further romance between everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2020Honestly, I have no idea what this book is about. Not because I didn't read it, but because I took nothing in. There's a pointless but very descriptive s*x scene in the beginning and then the romantic relationship is never mentioned again. Some of the people say they aren't human and have some sort of powers but they are never fully explained. The main character can't remember her past and as she develops her power she's supposed to get memories back but doesnt find out anything about who she is. And a bunch of people die. I developed no attachment to any of these characters and didn't feel bad for the main character or for any of the side characters that were killed off. I believe this is supposed to be a series but I will not be looking for the sequel.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2020I like the concept and the writing itself is good. The problem I had was some editing (punctuation) issues. The writing style worked and it kept me going through the errors.
