4.6 out of 5 stars 1,447 ratings

A sweet historical western love story with heart-pounding danger. Ethan Wilkes plans to go west to start a horse ranch, but he sure isn’t ready for a wife, especially a grieving widow, great with child. But his Aunt Milly, proprietress of the Western Home and Hearts Matrimonial Agency, disagrees. She believes Lacy Avant is perfect for him, and after she explains Lacy's plight, he heads to Montana Territory. When he arrives in Buffalo Run to claim his mail-order bride, he finds Lacy fighting a ruthless rancher who’s taken over the town, run off half the farmers, and murdered her husband. Can he win Lacy’s heart while hunting down the killer before he strikes again? Can Lacy trust Ethan with her life and her heart? And is the land really worth the risk of losing another husband? The bullets will fly and faith and love will be tested in this fast-paced Christian romance set in untamed Montana Territory, the first in a new multi-author series taken from case files of the eccentric matchmaker who runs the Westward Home and Hearts Matrimonial Agency.

I attend church regularly, and God is the center of my life. I'm proud of the good job my daughter is doing rearing my three wonderful grandchildren. God and my family make up the inner circle of my life, but I want to reach out with understanding and love to others.

Lacy’s Legacy is my favorite Elaine Manders book to date. It had me hooked from the beginning and I just had to see how Lacy’s and Ethan’s story ended. Elaine has done a wonderful job of creating Lacy’s world and inviting us into it. She obviously does her research and it shows. Many historical reads don’t come near to this book in attention to detail and accuracy. As for the story, the way she intertwined Lacy’s tragic story with Ethan’s and gave them both hope was so beautiful to me. Such a wonderful read with suspense, danger, and love. And while it is a love story, it is a clean, Christian story that I don’t have to feel guilty about reading! Also, Lacy is a strong character without falling into the feminist stereotype that would seem out of place in the time and setting. She isn’t looking for love, or even a husband, but wants to protect her husband’s legacy and realizes she needs help to do so. Enter Ethan, who is open to where God wants to lead him and has the heart of a servant. He is one of the sweetest, kindest male leads I’ve read about. But he isn’t weak. He’s swoon-worthy and smart. I loved how he interacted with Lacy and couldn’t wait for her to realize what an amazing blessing God had brought into her life. I really loved Quint and I’m hoping he will eventually get his own book. I recommend all of Elaine’s books but I have to say that this series is a great starting point. Yes, it’s part of a series but they are all great standalone reads, as well. If you’re looking for a good, clean Christian read, add Elaine Manders to your bookshelf.

I enjoyed this mail order bride book with a huge twist. Reading this had me hooked with the highs and lows. And honestly this book made me think so much of what we take for granted, as I read this during the Covid-19 Stay at Home mandates of my State & City. I would have given this a five star, however, some of the Bible quotes seemed somewhat contrived. They just didn't quite fit the situation. I look forward to reading more.

I just loved this wonderful, God given story by Ms Manders. Her writing always includes the goodness of God inspired stories
Lacy Avant was a Farmer in Montana and had a friend or several in town that had become MOB Mark Avant, her husband had lost his life only recently and left her alone, Pregnant and scared of losing both her life and her child’s.
In this story the matchmaker sends her nephew as the intended to marry Lacy and share their life and lands.
It’s such a heartwarming story that includes life built in the west!

This is the first book I have read that was written by Elaine Manders. I am certain it will not be the last. The story pulled me in from the first page and I just could not put it down.

Lacy and her husband, Mark, took advantage of the Homestead Act and filed for a plot of land. They had been working the land, had built the required home and barn, and were working to improve the land so it would be deeded to them. A neighboring rancher decided their homestead was so good that he attempted to run them off the land and then killed Mark and threatened Lacy and her grandparents if they remained on the land. Lacy was "in the family way" and was afraid for the baby and her grandparents lives.

After contacting a mail-order bride agent, Lacy and Ethan began corresponding and she wisely told him from the beginning about the land grabbing rancher and his attempts to take over her land. Ethan had contacts also including a U. S. Marshall and men he had fought with in the Civil War.

Were Ethan's contacts able to offer any assistance? Did the land-grabbing rancher succeed in his attempts to get Lacy's land? Could they prove that Mark was murdered? Read this book and get these answers and much more.

Its a fine easy to read book. Moves quick, semi interior plot. Decent time killer.
However there is no way that you would be cantering a horse and buggy anywhere at anytime (holy batman the inside jostling would be horrible) but you especially wouldnt do it if you were 8 or 9 months pregnant 🤔 a fast trot perhaps....
Also the timeline wasnt completely coherent. She was just a bump at the beginning which i assumed to be about 6 months, then she was a month away and days later (as the plot line picked up pace) she was giving birth....
Small details, but those type of things drive me insane.

So good! Loved the suspense and the story. Even though I guessed how it would end, I enjoyed this book to the last
    page.

Lacy was heartbroken. Her husband was dead and she was pregnant. Her husbands grandparents who were old and feeble was all she had. Also the debt on the farm. Lacy prayed for help. Her friend told her about a lady that could help get her a husband. Was it possible?

I couldn't put the book down and had to read until sleep overcame me. Well developed characters except I would have liked to know more about Quin; he disappeared after shooting Dye. Scripture references were well placed and lacey's and Mr wilkes 's faith shone through.
