About the author

I'm a retired Air Force (civilian) accountant living in Warner Robins, Georgia. My interests are varied. I enjoy reading and writing Christian historical romances and inspirational commentary, golf, sewing, crocheting, knitting, politics, history, science and mathematics. I attend church regularly, and God is the center of my life. I'm proud of the good job my daughter is doing rearing my three wonderful grandchildren. God and my family make up the inner circle of my life, but I want to reach out with understanding and love to others.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2015Adela is almost 25, going to Harvard as part of a first try for female students, and an orphan.
Byron is a single man in Kansas, living with his widowed mother and trying to be a successful farmer on a failing farm while his mother encourages him to marry the neighbors daughter. He's not interested in her so he places an advertisement for a mail-order-bride to which Adela responds and he invites her to Kansas to court her properly for a month before marriage.
Because Byron's mother is set that he not marry Adela, she causes much havoc in the courting process. Adela's Prairie Suitor is a sweet love story, well written that you'll find yourself rooting for Adela, but wondering if his mother will end up getting her way!
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first story I have read by this author but won't be the last.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2017I love reading about mail-order brides because that is how my mom and dad met. This was a sweet tale of two people who fell in love by writing letters, then agreed to meet and get to know each other over a month period of time. The only problem is that his mother was intent on pairing him with a neighbor's daughter, whom Byron had no intention of dating much less wedding. There is a great ending, but you must navigate problems to get there. Even my folks had a problem to solve before their marriage, so I could relate to the complexities of the mail order bride path to marriage. I loved this lovely book with no sex scenes. I wish more were written like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019nice read that had the time frame of the two main characters falling in love in a reasonable amount of time. Mother's meddling seemed silly, but otherwise nice little read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2024Adela and Byron correspond for a while before he sends for her so they can meet in person and properly court.
Wow, what a story these two have! There are twists and turns, heartbreak and a well-earned HEA.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2020I liked knowing about the first ladies to attend University and how difficult it was at that time for them. Thank God that has changed. Imagine considering yourself an old maid in the mid twenties.. that has also changes This was a sweet story wit good descriptions to keep the interest.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018Just how far do you think a mother will go to keep her son from marrying the woman he loves? You will find out in this short story and it is pretty interesting. There are two more books in this Annex series, which I just 'went' and purchased, then I will check out the "Intrigue Under Western Skies" series. Yes, it was really good!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story with historical insights
A fascinating insight into the expectations of men their and attitudes about education for women in the late 1800s. The twists to the story also highlight that prejudices are not limited to those with money or education. Week worth a read.
