About the author

D.R. Bailey was raised in a family of bibliophiles. From an early age, he developed eclectic tastes in fiction including Sci-Fi, Romance, Crime, and the Classics. Some of his favourite authors are still Gerald Durrell, Jane Austen, Peter James, Ellis Peters, and Isaac Asimov. He began his writing journey at the age of eleven with a fictional story about his toy teddy bear clan. To date, he has published four major fictional series. Apart from writing, Bailey has engaged in several different careers and says that these life experiences have all contributed greatly to his penchant for storytelling.
Bailey’s most successful series is his WW2 Aviation Thriller, The Spitfire Mavericks, published by Sapere Books. It features spies, thrilling action-packed aerial combat, romance, and more. The series features a maverick crew of pilots thrown out from every squadron. The hero of the hour, Flying Officer Angus Mackennelly, endeavours to save the day in a series of thrilling adventures. The series has been a best seller on multiple Amazon lists in several countries and still rides high in the charts.
Following the success of the Mavericks series, Bailey has now written another WW2 Aviation Thriller series also published by Sapere Books, The Secret Sirens. The series poses the fictional question of what if women flew into combat with the RAF in WW2. The series features exciting secret missions by the Sirens squadron, spies, intrigue and more. Strong female leads combine with some great storylines to bring the reader an adventure to keep the pages turning.
Bailey has also penned and independently published five full-length crime novels in the DI Gallway series which is a genre he is particularly fond of. The stories contain a heady mix of crime, suspense, humour, steamy romance and much more. Bailey has also tackled some controversial and topical subjects surrounding the Catholic Church. The stories are set in Ireland, and Bailey confesses to having a great affection for the Irish.
Bailey has also independently published The Innocent Killing, and four other books in a Legal Drama series featuring a fictional barrister in Dublin called Bernadette Mackenna. This new series is a steamy spicy mix of legal drama with a strong element of same-sex romance.
The Spitfire Mavericks, The Secret Sirens, DI Gallway Investigates, and Bernadette Mackenna Investigates will hopefully continue for many more books to come. Bailey pledges to continue writing for as long as he can. Bailey is dedicated to excellence and writes with passion but at the same time tries to make his words accessible to those of all persuasions, sometimes shocking perhaps, but never dull.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2023I particularly Liked watching inspector Gallway evolve from a stiff shirt to
An almost likeable person. Kerry was my favorite character, although that may be because she is so funny.
I think the book was too long and could have been held to somewhere in the 300 page area and still have gotten the story told.
I did like it though, and will continue to read Bailey.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2019An entertaining police procedural with a likable hero in Detective Inspector Seamus Gallway and a well-written, well-thought out supporting cast of characters. The book is an ambitious mix of gritty crime, delving graphically at times into the themes of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and sexual kinks, existing right alongside a very sweet central romance and lots of humor, much of it provided by the instantly lovable Sergeant O'Rorden. Appreciate the effort made to lay out the sometimes mundane day-to-day workings of a murder investigation while still maintaining tension as the race to find the murderer unfolds. For me, there was a little much emphasis on what a great leader Gallway is (felt like this was demonstrated clearly without so much explanation needed). Also felt that the juxtaposition between the grim topic of child abuse and the more lighthearted moments in the book could be a little jarring. However, the author does a great job of creating characters that we care about and will want to follow in their further adventures. Overall, a satisfying read for fans of thoughtful mystery looking for a new detective series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2019There's not much here not to love. This book fits like an old gum shoe but with modern flair. Here we have a bold conflict, lots of mystery, terribly all-too-human characters, and an all encompassing air of moral ambiguity. Flitting between the details of a raw investigation and the risque nature of the crimes and subjects it walks a fine line but never comes off cheesy or insincere. I thoroughly enjoyed this little romp into a deep dark world and would highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019If you’re looking for suspense from a talented author, this is it. Bailey seamlessly transports the reader to a different world, one full of stark contrasts, interesting characters, and dubious actions. Overall, it’s a crime story well worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2020A great read. The topic is current and handled very well. Look forward to the next book by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2019I admittedly rarely read detective type novels, but I am so glad that I gave this one a try. Filled with very colourful characters - good and bad - we are taken on an adventure to find out who killed a priest of a Catholic Church. The story is dark, but it's real, I like that. It deals with the harsh reality of child abuse and household violence and how those can affect a child.
I enjoyed the main character Seamus despite some of his shortcomings in how he treats the women in his life. He has good intentions, but I personally get agitated with men who casually string women along. It probably goes with the territory though. He's good at his job and he's clever. I was impressed with how he unraveled the mystery of who killed the priest - and it's not going to be who you think it is. And perhaps that's what I like most about this book is that it really shows the complexity and humanity (and the insanity!) of a criminal mind. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book and the interesting characters kept me turning the pages. It's a great novel for anyone who enjoys crime, detective, or mystery novels. 5/5 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2019This is a great, straight-up detective novel. I haven't read one in a long time, and this was a new-to-me author, and I really enjoyed it! The mystery is definitely part of the fun, but the characters made it for me. There's our gruff Inspector General Seamus. Might he soften as the book goes on? Perhaps in the arms of sweet Kerry? There's young Liam, who's kind of a mess, but so cute you root for him anyway. And then, the oh-so-sultry and mysterious Diana. And Mistress Dana. Or is there more there than meets the eye as well? I'll try not to spoil it, but let's just say that if you like an old fashioned "who done it?" with some romance, intrigue and action thrown in, this one's for you!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2021The characters development and story are amazing. To the end, I wasnt sure who the killer was. I love it when I dont know who the killer is. A great read for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed
I’ve given the book a 5* but it really should be 4.5. Although the plot & twists were unexpected (I didn’t guess), the chapters were far too long. It has put me off purchasing book 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars good story but needs editing
I wish I could give this a higher rating. The mystery is good and the characters strong, but there are too many grammatical problems that pull the reader out of the story. A good developmental editor would also help tighten up the parts that drag or are superfluous. I hope the author takes another go at this, because it has a lot of potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money - an entertaining read.
DI Seamus Gallway investigates when local priest, Father O’Flaherty, is shot dead in his church in Ireland. Bailey pulls no punches in this engrossing crime novel as we enter the world of S&M, illicit desires and a hypocritical clergy. Gallway swears like a trooper at anyone who stands in his way as he digs into the life of the Father O’Flaherty in dogged pursuit of the killer. A thoroughly enjoyable read, which is at times amusing, shocking and decidedly risqué. At over 630 pages, The Confessional Killings is superb value for money. I highly recommend this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising story from beginning to end
I usually don’t like crime stories but this one got me hooked. I started and couldn’t put it down. The story is new, fresh and anything but predictable. A tricky subject to tackle I was in awe how D.R. Bailey spun the red thread through the story and tackled sensitive issues on the way. There were no taboos in this book. I fell in love with the relatable characters and started to miss them as soon as I put the book down. The book was a total surprise from beginning to end. What an entrance into the world of book writing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
This is a gripping book. I couldn't put it down! Loved the characters, loved the action, which was exciting but not too gory.... This story has action, mystery and romance, and I can't wait to read the next book to see what the characters do next. Oh, and I learned a lot about the life of a Dominatrix!
